Sorry, Jerrick, but the proper pinyin spelling is "Xin nian hao". My fiance is Chinese and I've got two Mandarin books. :)

Thanks for reading!

The card-based payment model is interesting. If someone played WoW 24/365, they'd shell out $525.60 a year. But if you play 4 hours a day, every single day, you'd pay $87.60 a year - just a bit over a six-month subscription in the U.S.

And if you play like me - about 3 hours a day, a liberal four days a week - I'd pay $37.44 a year.

Yeesh.

China is crazy in love with WOW. I was in Shanghai last summer right around the time it was released there. WOW was on every Coke bottle I saw. There was even a booth of some sort below the TV tower. There was some kind of Coca-Cola celebration going on. I also remember driving by countless internet cafes.

I'd play WoW if the U.S. had that payment method. I can't stand motnhly fees since some months are a bit busier than some. If I only had the option.

Does the 60 Day Game Card (prepaid) actually count 60 days worth in hours or does it just count down the dates after activation? I'm guessing the latter...

oboreruhito, you can't compare the cost directly. People, on average, make less in China than they would in the US, Europe, or Japan. Almost everything's cheaper in China.

It's interesting to see what the environment is like for the Chinese MMORPG market. 26 million potential mmorpg players is an enormous amount of people.

FYI, Ubisoft started operating in China in 1996, both as a Studio and Publisher for the Chinese market...
