A psychological study at York University in Canada has some good news for gamers, or anyone interested in the
benefits of gaming. Researchers found that, of 100 undergraduates given tricky mental tasks, those who played video
games consistently outperformed the non-gamers.The ability to switch quickly between tasks and block out irrelevant information was key to these tests, and similar results have also been found on those who are bilingual. Further studies into bilingualism have shown that as people age, the rate of cognitive decline tends to be slower for bilinguals--the implication is that video games may help your brain age gracefully.
Of course, the excuse that you're investing in your future might not hold much weight when you're trying to justify a mammoth World of Warcraft session, but it's nice to see new research bringing out the good in games.
