Bethesda: "Fallout 3 is our baby"
Speaking to CVG about--you guessed it--Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bethesda's Pete Hines gave a
brief statement on the status of Fallout 3, the post-apocalyptic PC game that was as humorous as it was
involved. Hines noted that he is really excited by what he has seen so far, and that his team is "approaching
Fallout 3 as if we developed the first and second games--we're developing it just like we developed Oblivion."
Hines is hoping that Bethesda's final product that will "move the series forward...while staying true to its
roots."The story of Fallout 3 is as long and involved as the plot of the original Fallout. The game, code-named Van Buren, went into production sometime after the 1998 release of Fallout 2. Developers Black Isle Studios, however, was closed down by Interplay in 2003, who later went bankrupt and sold the rights to Bethesda. Bethesda has been working on Fallout 3 since 2004. Does that qualify Fallout 3 as vaporware material? Hopefully we will know more about the title before too long. Hines has in the past stated that he plans to release Fallout 3 as a multi platform title.

"Does that qualify Fallout 3 as vaporware material?"
vaporware? please. how long was morrowind in development? oblivion? (both roughly 4 years apiece btw)
bethesda has a history of long development times.
something being vaporware isn't just a function of how long its been in development, it's as much a measure of the likelihood that the product won't make it to market at all.

Not only do Bethesda take a long time, but they do a great job on their products. Similar to Blizzard in that regard. Take all the time they want, because Bethesda has rarely produced a bad game. *knock on wood for Oblivion*

Also the Fallout 3 that Bethesda is doing is starting from scratch, not using any of the material that has been done for 'Van Buren'. So you could say that it's only be in dev for 1 and a half - 2 years, not warranting a vaporware label.
Or you could say that it's vaporware.

Fallout 3 will either be an adventure FPS or 3rd person real-time combat game. I pray to the God of Exploding Blood Sausages I'm wrong, though.

Hmm, I wonder what the release date will be for this game. I LOVE the fallout series. :)

...we're developing it just like we developed Oblivion.
Oh good, get ready for some awesome Fallout video at E3, then more months/years of waiting as they slowly remove all the features that made that video so awesome.
Next gen, indeed.
