On the way to class today, I picked up a
copy of my campus newspaper, The Red & Black, so I could do the crossword puzzle during my math class. For
their Valentine's Day feature, "Man on the Market," the paper has set up one of their contributors to go on a
series of dates with five women, with each participant writing out their reaction for the Variety section. Skimming over
the piece (he took her to tango lessons, awww), I came across a rather odd analogy. In trying to describe their
connection, David "Man on the Market" Burch wrote that "once again, her background was the Xbox 360
version of my Nintendo life, and I found myself scrambling to sound interesting."An admittance of social unease and an indirect statement on Nintendo's image? Clever. Can you think of any other peculiar ways to make analogies out of everyday situations using video game culture? So far, our best response has been 32_Footsteps' One katamari short of a cosmos.
As for Burch, a 3rd-year law student, we wish him the best of luck on the last 3 dates with a PlayStation 2, Gizmondo, and a MacBook Pro.
[Update: minor stylistic and grammatical fixes abound, as well as the inclusion of 32_Footsteps' analogy from below.]
