The Outfit multiplayer demo readies for deployment
THQ has announced that a multiplayer demo of its
upcoming WWII action title, The Outfit, will be hitting the XBL Marketplace and OXM. The demo will
feature the game's most intriguing multiplayer mode, Strategic Victory.Up to eight players are divided into two teams. Each team starts with several control towers and 150 command points. Teams lose points when their heroes are killed, bases are destroyed, or they lose a majority of their control towers. The first team to reach zero command points is defeated.
Each player will have access to the destruction-on-demand feature, using the team's accumulated F-Us (Field Units) to order in AI reinforcements, vehicles, air strikes, and weaponry. In addition, maps contain neutral resource buildings that, when captured, become spawn points and grant access to special destruction-on-demand items. However, capturing a resource building does not affect your team's command point total, at least, not directly. See, it's all about strategic victory.
An Xbox Live multiplayer demo makes great use of the Marketplace module and is sure to attract a huge number of downloads—especially considering that the Xbox 360 is starved for some decent online multiplayer content. The Outfit demo is scheduled to arrive on Friday, March 3.

Since when has the X360 been starved for decent online multiplayer action?
PD0, DOA4, Marble Blast, Gauntlet, PGR3, etc etc.
Wonderflex @ Feb 16th 2006 12:42PM
#1 - Exactly...starved.
And since when do we need another WWII game. I'd rather play a game called, "WWII: Stories," where daily real life events trigger memories of past war experiences, so in bit of an psychotic momment you continue out the missions in the current time.
Like for example, you'd be walking around the retirement community, spot a warden coming down the hall, rattling some pills in her hand for old Ms. Shooter in room 206, when suddenly the game goes into a flashback.
It's young you, and that's not a warden anymore, now it's a Natzi death warden, and she's rattling key's to a cell in her hand. You remember it like yesterday, and know exactly what to do. You've got to use the piano wire, steal the keys, get the poor Jewish mother out of the cell, and lead her into the woods to freedom.
At this point the game would cut back to modern day times and you have to use your resources to complete the same mission. Your character would have dental floss. You'd strangle the warden, but instead of them actually being strangled, they'd slip and bonk their head (althogh your character wouldn't notice). You'd have to grab old lady Shooter and use stealth to navigate your way out the retirement community without being seen, only to throw her into a bush outside the door. Then you'd squint your eyes, shake your head, and say, "What time is it? Can I have an apple now? Where's my vanilla wafers and pudding!?" And would walk off to the cafeteria...which would lead into your next, "mission."

"F-U" might not be the best choice of letters...
dork @ Feb 16th 2006 12:50PM

SilverScyth @ Feb 16th 2006 12:52PM
This thread needs some...
SHOCK AND GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!
JusJusJus @ Feb 16th 2006 12:54PM
Dude are you on drugs? What the fuck are you talking about? lol
elchin @ Feb 16th 2006 1:14PM
I don't see why they dont just port BF2 over and be done. Especially with the 1.2 patch. Port it and not worry about multiplayer for a few months while people are occupied.
Hiro Protagonist @ Feb 16th 2006 1:17PM
Actually, thats a great idea Wonderflex.
I can see it now, a group of 4 guys are stealing your car. Then you flashback to an abandoned house with only a piece of wood torn from the window.
You see yourself knocking out a nazi that is away from the others and grabbing his gun so you can shoot the other three from the top of the house.
Flashback, repeat what you saw. (Except the wooden plank would be a chair or something)
Causality @ Feb 16th 2006 1:19PM
Looking foward to this, hopefully it will be as good as freedom fighters. (oh yes freedom fighters rocked)
Wonderflex @ Feb 16th 2006 1:27PM
Lol - I can already see some video game company stealing my idea. So, just incase this becomes a game, make sure to remember that you saw it here first. And to all prospective video game design studio's, make sure this game is cell-shaded by the guys who made XIII.
Hiro Protagonist @ Feb 16th 2006 1:35PM
Maybe you should copyright it :P

Too bad its so hard to come up with good ideas.
I bet I could make some more (develop on the existing one) if I tried.
Wonderflex @ Feb 16th 2006 1:52PM
No, no. You don't want to come up with too many good ideas yet, or else how would there be an expansion pack. WWI: Stories - POW. Our character would get a horrible pain on the side of his head, do to a small blood clot that nearly develop into a stroke. He would have a flashback of getting hit in the head by a graised a German bullet, and knocked unconsious, only to wake up in a POW camp. In the real world though he'd simply be inside of a hospital, but would live out his experiences he had while under capture by the Nazi's.
Hiro Protagonist @ Feb 16th 2006 1:57PM
Of course!
Then he would kill doctors, bribe nurses and take advantage of other pacients to escape the POW camp.
Wonderflex @ Feb 16th 2006 2:04PM
Nope. We don't want the game getting slammed by etho-criticts. No killing, no blood. Just comedic violence, such as slipps, hititng with flower pots/books, to make unconsious, tieing up. It's a "T" for "Teen" game, with the humor and feel of "Maniac Mansion" game, minus the point and click.
Hiro Protagonist @ Feb 16th 2006 2:06PM
I just had an idea.
It could have a "Hot Coffee" like add-on.
Remember, I never said HOW he bribed the nurses. (Kinda hard without money)
Just so it gets a 17 rating and lots of pr0n to attract older (younger) gamers.
Hiro Protagonist @ Feb 16th 2006 2:07PM
Ups, make that a 15 rating then ;)
Tom Tuttle from Tacoma @ Feb 16th 2006 2:14PM
Holy crap!
Reading Joystiq comments is like two teenage girls chatting on the cellphone.
*puke*
Hiro Protagonist @ Feb 16th 2006 2:19PM
Maybe you should not read the comments?
Besides, teen ag gurls tlk lik dis.

#2 and #4
Do you even OWN an xbox 360?
Wonderflex @ Feb 16th 2006 2:28PM
#17 - Five times.
Nope...played one enough though. You don't have to own something to use it. Just have good friends. And the whole thing I'm ragging on is WWII games, rather they be on a Sony, MS, or Nintendo, machine. We need to inovate the genre horrible. I don't mind the setting, they greatness of that generation, or anything else that goes along with having a game set in WWII; I'm just sick of them all being so similar.
Hiro Protagonist @ Feb 16th 2006 3:00PM
I agree with Wonderflex (again).
This one sounds pretty much like Battlefield 2...
Points decreasing, capturing stuff...
Both strategy, even though BF2 is pretty much run around and shoot everyone you see (at least in some games).
Meh.
Ian Gibson @ Feb 16th 2006 3:01PM
Great, I can't wait to play the game! Maybe this means that future demos will have both single-player and a multiplayer content - I love the marketplace!
Nate @ Feb 16th 2006 4:03PM
There aren't even 30 game for the 360 yet and there are already 2 WWII games, Call of Duty 2 was good and I already own Mercenaries so i really have no need for this game developers really need to think before making a new game. We should boycott all WWII games this year maybe thatll slow em down
Wonderflex @ Feb 16th 2006 4:29PM
#20 - Ian...what do you think you are doing, trying to be on topic and all. Sheesh.
