That looks sick! And I agree, vazel... Protecting the citizens of earth while being nearly invincible is a forgotten canon in the 'Superman' world...

If that is a real ingame screen shot, then:

...DAMN!

I kinda doubt it tho since this is EA we are talking about and we all remember what they did with Madden and the 360.

...looks like metallo with a bit of a world of warcraft/lord of the rings treatment...

...secret to a good superman game is alll in the plotting... if the game handles like they say, this title could be on the right path...

...easy superman concept? take it from the first arc of the superman/batman series... a giant kryptonite asteroid is heading toward earth... in the mniddle of stopping a routine bank robbery, superman's shot... surprise! the bullet goes in... madness...

...you make it fun by having him retain the superman powers but gradually losing them as time goes by... flight, invulnerability, etc... all become less and less potent as you progress through the game's story... then you've gotta save the world not as the man of steel, but more as the man of a much lighter, much weaker alloy... :)

...i think it'd be a nice reversal of the usual game mechanics... instead of being all powerful by the end of the game, you're pretty much just a step above an average joe who can float...

...either that or have the world invaded by magical beings... superman's always been vulnerable to magic...

If i'm not mistaken, there's already been a good amount of screenshots shown of this game by EA, unless they're mockups like they did with Madden. Game Informer had a cover story on it a few months back.

This might be the best Superman game ever! Of course, it would only need a review rating of about 2.5 out of 10 to do so.

Eh, Superman isn't that invincible. Ever see the Alien vs Superman comic (weird I know, but I'm an avid Aliens collector). Apparently his eye isn't safe from the Alien's "concentrated acid for blood". Seemed to me that Batman did a better job versus the Predator.

But the idea of "no health bar" has definite merit. Kryponite could make his powers less effective. I like it!

Anyway, anything would be better than the crappy Arcade game that was supposed to contain Superman. That game is the most boring, repetitive side-scroller I've ever played.

Holy God! I so want to fight that!

I think you might too, but I'm guessing if that is a real-time screenshot (it could be), then it's definately 360 or PC. PS2 and Xbox wouldn't look that good. I just hope that, if you can do stuff like that, the controls are fluid and he can do many things. Context sensitivity (like RE4 dodging and such) could be productively implemented. Dude throws a mega-punch, you can dodge.

I'm hoping for one thing though; that when that big thing (if its in the game) hits a building, it crashes down. Pure awesomeness, but its only hope...

Seems like the smart thing to do would be to redirect the missle and use it to attack Metallo (presuming that is Metallo, anyhow). Of course, that could cause some fun collateral damage.

Actually, it occurs to me that Supes still has a life meter of sorts - if you have to keep the population healthy, it's still a meter to watch. It's just somewhat counterintiutive, because you'd have to walk in front of dangers (protecting people with your invulnerability) to keep your life meter from dropping.

Kevin,

I like the way you think. The increasing difficulty would be possible without having to make cheap/arbitrary more powerful foot soldiers and whatnot, and your main arch nemesis wouldn't actually have any significant changes in it's properties. That whole premise has alot of potential.

Supermans fighting an Xbox!

But seriously... I do like the look of this game. I had a dream about a similar game years ago, always wanted to play it! heh. I'll have to look forward to this.

the game will be available on the xbox, ps2 and x360. i was impressed by the screen at first... on second look, the screenshot looks like something that could be done on any current generation console IMHO.

look at it again. the missile is completely devoid of texture.

the main character is tiny.

the creature isnt really sporting any truly jawdropping shadows or lighting effects.

the buildings in the background look kinda stiff to be polygons.

BUT!

when i look at the legs and the intricate pipework texturing...

the debris around the creatures legs...

the explosion effect of the rocket...

i would say we are definitely looking at the x360 version. makes sense. always showcase the best looking work you have. this is probably just from an early build. i would be interested in seeing a clip; seeing all this in motion. thats what really separates the generations... how much can happen at once, and how does it look in motion.

-Re: those screenshots -- Bullshot. Seriously, I call Bullshot.

-Re: the idea where Superman gets progressively weaker over the course of the game -- there's a reason they never do that in games, and that is because it would be lame and godawful. Except in this case it would be Superman, making it even more lame and godawful

-Re: SuicideNinja's comments vis a vis Superman v. Alien -- they wrote that back when it was the fashion to make Superman a big lame wuss-face. It didn't really last.

-Re: What EA says this game is going to be like -- Totally sweet and utterly awesome, the Superman game of a million fanboys' dreams.

-Re: What the game will actually be like -- lame and godawful.

Check out Game Informer from a few months ago. They had a cover story on this with many more screen shots and info. They also had a review of a short demo they played and they said it really does look that good. It's the first game that's really made me want a 360 when it comes out.

Well, recently the official playstation 2 mag in the UK had a full story on this new superman game so the screenshots aren't brand new as this was 2 months ago. You should check it out as there is a lot of good stuff in that feature

he knows superman's weaknesses, in order: kryptonite, magic, super strengths rivaling his (or energy blasts of equivolent power), the innocent dying, batman's cunning. because batman is the most dangerous human alive.
looks like he's got the first and third down fine. he's a robot, so he can't use magic, and he's not batman, and that leaves teh fourth. also, the idea of having to save the city instead of saving himself seems like one of the few superman games that actually MAKES SENSE. i mean, that was always his game, really. also, his eyes are often shown to be the most vulnerable part of his body, but it wouldn't' make sense depending on how you understand his powers work. like, i'm a believer that he projects a force field around himself and can use that to lift himself. so the field would be evenly distributed around him, so his eyes would be relatively as vulnurable as the rest of him compared to his super strength. TAS had him go blind once because of super powerful uv right in his eyes, but his healing eventually overcame.
