Unlike some companies that have next-gen consoles allegedly launching in 2006, Nintendo and their North American VP of Marketing, Reggie Fils-Aimes, aren't shy about talking to the media about their plans. Of course, many things remain a mystery, but we're strangely impressed with Nintendo's brashness, confidence and aggressiveness as the Revolution nears.
Last week, San Jose Mercury News scribe, Dean Takahashi, had the opportunity to talk to the Reggimeister about the Revo and the competition. While the interview didn't result in a ton of new information, it did yield some food for thought:
"I turned the tables a bit and asked if Nintendo would truly line up developers to support the Revolution this time. I noted that Electronic Arts is preparing to support the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 equally for the first six months of each launch, but the biggest game software company does not seem like it will support the Revolution to the same degree. Fils-Amie said he wasn't aware of EA's position."
Dean goes on to talk about how developers may actually be afraid of the new controller, limiting development on the platform (or at least the development of innovative games). However, we think that the DS shows that there is plenty of room (and profit) for developers to innovate.
