I forgot: They are indeed adding "more power", but since games will get sometime to the point of realism where you can't get "more real" (maybe even with PS3 and Xbox 360), that it'll be pointless to *just* keep adding more power. I mean, what for? "More polygons" and "higher resolutions"? I mean, what comes after 4320p? The suspension of belief hardly exists for several games this generation, so "adding more polygons" after reaching Killzone 3 graphics (maybe that's the limit of PS3, or the beginning of PS4 graphics), what's next? There's nothing next. I mean, you can hardly add more detail to games than what that "Demo" showed besides improved textures for "eyebrows" and better hair. What will Microsoft and Sony tell us next? "Ok, THIS TIME is serious. Toy Story..."? As Nintendo said, we could wait for the market to slowly die, as graphics wouldn't look better anymore, and the input methods wouldn't differ much from the ones now. To quote you: "It's not hardware that makes change, it's innovative software", and that's exactly what Nintendo needs to do (and probably will), because without it the wand is a worthless gimmick (just like Blu-ray could end up being if no games come out for it and it loses the standards battle).

I do not believe the Blu-Ray selling point will be as great as DVD was for the PS2. At this point, there are still some people finally converting to DVD as the medium they use to view movies. There are also the people that will still have Standard Def TVs for many years to come (Nintendo's Market). This group will not notice the advantage of Blu-Ray. Finally, there are the people of my parent's generation and older who no longer care about the new tech and if they happen to get an HDTV, they'll still probably hook a VHS up to it and watch videos on that format, and maybe a few on DVD. Even as an underestamate, these people amount to at least half of consumers. These people don't care if they're watching a grainy and cable that is half static or if they are watching 'the fancy blu thing.' Previous formats have lasted for 20 years minimum, CD, VHS, Reel-2-Reel and Records! People who are used to standards aren't going to jump at the new format when they are just getting used to DVD. Granted, they aren't even the demographic that sony is selling to! Still with the last generation, the difference in quality was more of a leap from what they were used to. The things that made this gen of optical media worthwhile for the mass market was the option of bonus features and that it didn't degrade like a tape (unless you scratched the disc)

The market isn't ready for a new media to take over like DVD did. (AND DVD WAS EVEN OUT FOR AT LEAST THREE YEARS BEFORE THE PS2). This just reminds me of a post from earlier in the week when Gates said this will be the last format war. By the time majority of the consumer market is ready to adopt a new universal media for movies games etc, we'll likely have the framework in place for the digital downloads thus making a media format obsolete. (Next-Gen iTunes and / or 2009 digital TV mandate ring a bell?)

I agree with 53 (not 32 and 41) in that Blu-Ray/HD-DVD will not take off for quite some time (at least until the players and media approach DVD prices). The increase in visual quality from DVD to HD-DVD/Blu-Ray is nowhere near the jump from VHS to DVD. In fact I think it is hardly perceptible unless you are sitting too close to your HDTV.

I dont see the PS3 competing anymore. Rev has the price and innovation. 360 has the cool and decent graphics. Ps3 has nothing that the consoles before them will have. Theres a reason we play games, it enjoy them, not to be amazed that if you look out the window you cant tell if your playing games or real life. Playstation needs to die, it had a good run and ofcourse Nintendo and MS are still in. When playstation dies what would we lose? They have no good 1st party games. All 3rd parties will flock to Nintendo of Xbox which in turn will save the consumers tons of cash from the expensive ps3. Without the ps3 the industry will still be regulated because xbox and rev will have to compete, so one cant jack up their prices and create a monolopy. Good bye Playstation

That is a rather foolish, young attitude Beinss. All three companies should be able to survive without uneducated fools wanting to see one of the others demise. All these comapnies provide jobs & income for a helluva lot of people in a helluva lot of coutries that need it. I loved sega & would rather have not seen them die off, but given the choice I'm glad it was them over sony. But in hindsight, its a shame that they still couldn't be around instead of bills xblox. But no one but sega can be blamed for their demise..... Unfortunate but true.

Thats just baby talk. It shows even more that you probably have never owned a ps2, with comments like "They have no good 1st party games". Actually your right, they don't have any good 1st party games, but they have a lot of excellent ones.

And as for "3rd partes flocking to nintendo", ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
Have a look at the 3rd parties already signed up & developing ps3 games, then look at that compared to nintendo's dismal lineup.
I love how you nintendo fanboys keep relating to revolutions lower price point being its strength. Weren,t you morons born when the GC released at a lower price to the ps2 & xbox.

Basically you can safely assume that half of ps2's 100million owners will adopt sony's new hardware "when they say the next gen starts".

The ps3 will be the only console to offer true hd. Not becasue of the 1080p crap that doesn't exist yet for a reasonable price, but for being the only console that has a hdmi input. The difference will be noticed with nintendo's console being hd-less & ms not offering the hd standard hdmi input.

Soory all you sony bashers, but the proof is right here in the joystiq bloggs, have a look at the interest ps3 garners, & how much response they ge, & this shows that interest levels are unusually high for a console thats not even in stores yet.

Go to most other unbiased sites & you'll find the same thing happening. PS3's hype will sell units, & it's guaranteed popularity & installed base will ensure it gets all the best 1st & 3rd party games again.

All you sony bashers that go out of your way to comment on ps3 bloggs are hypocrits that will buy the machine. So stop trying to be "KOOL", by talking non-sensical crap. Don't bother crashing a ps3 related topic if you have no interest in the machine, otherwise your comments will just show you up as a contradicting fanboy.

Well, now it's news. Hitoshi Kuriyama of Merrill Lynch in Japan said there are reports that the PS3 could be delayed by between six and 12 months according to the Financial Times today.

news.com picked up the story just a couple of hours ago

"Actually your right, they don't have any good 1st party games, but they have a lot of excellent ones. "

Kizza, you are a Sony fanboy, and you don't even know that the games "God of War" and "Shadow of the colossus", among others, are some of the best games this generation; "Guitar Hero" and "eyetoy" are great also. Do your homework next time, boy.

"And as for "3rd partes flocking to nintendo", ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
Have a look at the 3rd parties already signed up & developing ps3 games, then look at that compared to nintendo's dismal lineup."

ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
are you serious? A lot of developers hate the PS3, yet there is hardly one developer that doesn't want to develop for revolution. Do your homework, little boy.

"I love how you nintendo fanboys keep relating to revolutions lower price point being its strength. Weren,t you morons born when the GC released at a lower price to the ps2 & xbox. "

I love how shortsighted you are, because last gen GC was only 50-100 dollars cheaper, and was competing for the same market. This time, not only will it be something around 200 versus 600 (with a hard drive, of course), but the revolution appeals to a wider market.

"Basically you can safely assume that half of ps2's 100million owners will adopt sony's new hardware "when they say the next gen starts".

How can we "safely assume" that? as opposed to "not safely assume" that? I already pointed out to you why PS3 has it much harder this time, so it's "safe to assume" that it is unlikely.

"The ps3 will be the only console to offer true hd. Not becasue of the 1080p crap that doesn't exist yet for a reasonable price, but for being the only console that has a hdmi input. The difference will be noticed with nintendo's console being hd-less & ms not offering the hd standard hdmi input. "

Umm, you don't need HDMI to display High definition games, but whatever dude. If you are talking about HD movies, then you forgot to do your homework again, because Microsoft will offer an HD-DVD add on, just in case somebody wants to watch HD movies. The revolution won't even need it because HD is not even necessary, as most don't have an HDTV, and HDTV owners have enough money to buy two consoles at least, and you can "safely assume" that almost nobody will buy both PS3 and 360, but that a lot will buy Revo and another console.

"Soory all you sony bashers, but the proof is right here in the joystiq bloggs, have a look at the interest ps3 garners, & how much response they ge, & this shows that interest levels are unusually high for a console thats not even in stores yet."

Actually, regardless of how much I love Sony's systems, here in the "joystiq bloggs", PS3 has lost all the popularity contests. Look at the polls.

"Go to most other unbiased sites & you'll find the same thing happening. PS3's hype will sell units, & it's guaranteed popularity & installed base will ensure it gets all the best 1st & 3rd party games again. "

Could you explain why Joystiq is biased as opposed to gamespot or IGN or "most other unbiased sites"? Come on, most people are eating the 360 hype more than they are doing it for the PS3. Nobody knows anything about the PS3, only that it will be expensive enough for people to consider the revolution over it.

"All you sony bashers that go out of your way to comment on ps3 bloggs are hypocrits that will buy the machine. So stop trying to be "KOOL", by talking non-sensical crap. Don't bother crashing a ps3 related topic if you have no interest in the machine, otherwise your comments will just show you up as a contradicting fanboy. "

What a joke. I want the PS3 a lot more than I want the 360, especially for its blu-ray drive, but being realistic, PS3 will have a much harder time than PS2 and PS1 had it, as their competition is hardly disadvantaged as it was in the PS1 and PS2 era; rather, PS3 has gross price and date (not because the generation already ended, but because Microsoft rushed to cut it early) disadvantages, let alone difficulty to program for. Sony better show some playable games and must own launch games if they want to keep being 1st place and if they want Blu-ray to become a standard.

Are these guys any more reliable than all the other so called experts & analyists that seem to spew out news like this a couple of times a week.

I guess if they didn't make up some of this crap, there would be no reason for their overpayed existence.
In a day or 2 there will surely be another story by some other highly respected analyist or the likes, that will say the opposite, I bet.

Anyway as I said, lucky japanese will be plugging in & playing their new ps3's in springtime 2006, US will have to wait until around june-august 2006, then europe & the rest november-december time.

PS3 will launch in the states a few months before christmas for sure, as to give time in the leadup to xmas for mainstream consumers to realise theres a new sony toy out there.

Laugh at me if I'm wrong, but the keyword here is IF.

Could you READ my comment then explain where & when I said joystiq was biased.

Could you also do some research into the hdmi input, then come back with something related that showws what yoour talking about. As the hdmi is a lead. I know that poor old confused ms has announced a add hd dvd driv AND a blu ray drive, if need be.
They will only be for movies, plus they will be hanging off your console like dogs testicles.

"Sony better show some playable games and must own launch games if they want to keep being 1st place and if they want Blu-ray to become a standard."

Why? Most of their fanbase won't make the switch to ps3 for a long time after launch. How many of sony's existing 100million customers purchased the ps2 on launch, or even close to launch? Not as many as when the price dropped. So expect the same hardcore fanbase to adopt early & the mainstreamers to jump on later.

"Kizza, you are a Sony fanboy, and you don't even know that the games "God of War" and "Shadow of the colossus", among others, are some of the best games this generation; "Guitar Hero" and "eyetoy" are great also. Do your homework next time, boy."

obviously you have not read my previous ten thousand other posts little girl, that mention these titles (which I love & finished), plus others, girly boy, like ico, ghosthunter, primal, wrc, the getaway & others. I fail to see why I'd mention them, when nintendo & ms fanboys will never play them or admit their greatness. Your dead right with the fanboy comment, as I've said before on here, I'm simply a fanboy of great games, regardless of developer or platform.
I've finished halo, I had resi evil 4, mario, star wars on cube. Played my xbox on live with far cry & black hawk down (bad chioce). And I appreciate them, thats why I don't go into there bloggs & act like a major retard, like "some folk" do with ps3 bloggs.

I admit I appreciate sony's platform more, due to the vast array of 1st & 3rd party titles available to it. Want me to name all them as well, BOY.
capcom
namco
codemasters
atari
the list goes on.

And fangirl, give me your list of developers that hate the money they will earn with ps3 & the list of developers that wish to sing for their supper making revolution exclusives.
hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhah
