Last week 1UP did a review of the Xbox 360's parental controls and the kind of things it kept the kiddies from being able to get their paws on. Since we know so many of our beloved readers have a sincere interest in barring use this way (/sarcasm), we want to take a minute to see what they had to say about the functionality.
The first and seemingly primary hurdle to set is the playable games feature. This is arguably the most important aspect, because through this option, the guardians have to get learned in the ways of the ESRB to make it work. Thankfully, this puts all the responsibility in the parents (something, it seems, they don't want to have to deal with for video games). Think Condemned is too violent and your child shouldn't play it? No problem! Just set the maximum rating that can be enjoyed and sit back.
Now there's no more bitching about lack of enforcement because this system puts the controls right where it belongs: in the hands of mom and dad. However, it turns out that the 360 didn't score too well when it came to movies. Check out the rest of the article to see what it had to say about the parental controls if you're into that sort of thing.
