That's very handsome, if not very Apple. Personally, I'd love to see an Apple/Nintendo partnership. Their products look the same, their philosophies seem to be on par, and they both (now, at least), have some kind of hip factor.

Can you imagine playing SMB on the next iPod? Or complete iPod integration on the Revolution? Definitely possible and would definitely sell very well.

What a shameless Apple knock off. Oh well... I'd like to see Nintendo sell even more DSes. This'll probably do it.

Holy crap, I am on Joystiq!

Anyway, I definately am enjoying the box art. I find myself liking Nintendo's "minimal/ipod" look more and more every day.

Yeah, Nintendo is just like Apple. Oh wait, when was the last quality Apple product that was priced lower than its equally powerful (or more so) competitors?

#3. That would be an awesome thing. Probably never happen, but a very nice dream, indeed.

Very Apple like box, was my first thout too. I wish I had the cash to get one. It'd look nice with my white Nano. :P

Bynaryum, the iPod's pricing is definitely taking advantage of the image they have built... I'm not saying that's a bad thing, it's good business, actually, but you can buy a similar MP3 player with twice the capacity for a lesser price!

Nintendo's issue is still its image. The iPod has built an image that it is the luxury portable music player: "if you have anything else you are missing out!" is what people think. I've actually seen people laugh at others who have a similar player that's not an iPod. And I hate how people continue to use the crappy earbuds the pods come with because they "complete the image". In the gaming world, it's only "cool" to play XBOX. MS has built such an image... its the non-game players that have aided this trend. After all, the ones that are hardcore players know that there are many gems that are simply not available on XBOX.

Anyway, is it just me, or does anyone else think people will get the DualScreen image on the top confused with an "8"? "What's this 8 mean?"

actually no, the iPod is one of the cheapest when considering the price capacity ratio. That's beacause Apple buys all the memory and have special deals with samsung.
FInd an mp3 player with twice the capacity of an iPod that wont break in 30 minutes....,, and I will send you chocolates

Maybe here in the states, or in Europe, but you have to remember... this is only (for now) the Japanese packaging. The system is an enournous success over there. It outsells all other handhelds and consoles by quite a margin, and its software always has a grip on a little more than half of the charts. I'm sure they'll recognize it.

With us Americans, since we can be teh dummies, I'm assuming that we'll get something quite similar, only with a light, glossy lettering in one of the bottom corners... denoting what it actually is.

I'm sure the "Nintendo" racetrack logo in the corner will do nothing but pique interests as well.

Great catch, Blue!

I forgot totally about the seemingly Indiglo lit Game Boy Light.

Then again, it was essentially a Game Boy Pocket. Judge for yourself:

I couldn't tell for sure in the pic, but I swear they made the display these DS Lite boxes are sitting on by throwing a white sheet over a large stack of unsold PSPs. Again, it's hard to tell.

Wonderful how Nintendo have a sort of Apple thing going on, you know with Apples main designer coming from England. It's mad. I live near where Jonathon Ives used to live. Funny knowing that these surroundings aided him to become a design genius.

Anywho. the box is amazing. I dont care how much they charge extra (so long as its not ridiculous *cof PSP*) I just want that box on show next to my iPod mini, PowerBook and Micro box. Notice the logo on the DS lid is embossed. Amazing work Nintendo. You make packaging look good.

Sorry but unlike Apple...Nintendo actually makes quality and very well built products AND sells them at a VERY reasonable price.

I'm not so sure I can say that about Apple...sorry but ALL of their stuff is overpriced.

The DS Lite is coming here in the US and more then likely it will arrive in early Summer 06 (or maybe even shortly after E3 2006.) As for me, I couldn't wait and I should be receiving my import DS Lite from Lik-Sang in a couple of weeks (hopefully.)

I ordered enamel navy lite offa Lik-Sang, but looking at the pic up there, dang does it look way off than what I expected. I expected it to look blackish, really dark-colored with a subtle tint of dark blue, but purplish-blueberryish is NOT what I expected at all. But at least I'm satisfied with how it looks so much like candy :)

I ordered the same color as you...it still looks better then the ice "baby" blue color or the white. The white does look slick but that will get dirty REAL fast, especially inbetween the buttons.

Jago, you're dumb. Whine all you like about Apple's "overpriced" iPod, but seriously...

Do you see ANY other flash based players with prices like the nano? Do you? No, their prices are JUST NOW coming down. Hell, even the CLONES are pricier with less memory than the nano!

I'm so sick of this crap. The next person to spout the "Overpriced Apple" junk is going to get my foot in their face.

Kinda sad that you have to resort to childish name calling Dave...

Now...$250 for a 4GB is a good price? Are you kidding me?

The 5GB Creative Labs Zen Neeon is $160-200 (depending on where you buy from), it includes an FM Radio (a $50 accessory for the iPod btw) AND has a longer battery life then the Nano.

Looking at the box art made me realize that the box art for the Revolution will probably be very similar. Probably a black box with a portion of the system shown and a white Nintendo logo in the bottom corner of the box. Very nice indeed.

and for all the money you save on the neeon (what a name!), you end up with a player that is twice as thick, almost twice as wide, and over twice as heavy. you aren't exactly comparing apples to well, you know...

Alex:

I currently have a iPod Mini (4GB) and would never go for anything thinner then the current 30GB iPod. The Nano is just too damn small and doesn't look all that sturdy.

1.5 oz (iPod Nano) vs. 2.65 oz (Zen Neeon)

Wow...that is a HUGE difference in weight!!! I'm going to have to use a forklift to carry the Zen around.

/end sarcasim

Seriously...the Zen Neeon is plenty small, is cheaper then the Nano AND has more features.

I just spent the last 30 mins playing the DS lite =).
There is one on display right beside my office in Kawasaki at Yodobashi Camera.

I had to elbow all the little kids out of the way to keep playing. They were all clamoring for it and I wasn't relenting! =)

Only 8 more days till I get my white DS Lite!

the ipod sells not because of functionality but because of image and service. i've yet to find an mp3 downloading solution that is as legal as itms, as vastly full, and as cheap.
the player itself is only a gateway to a successful online music store. it's like how windows isn't awesome, but windows is awesome because all the best games come out on windows. blizz panders to the oddball mac gamer...

jago, i agee that the neeon is plenty small, but there is no denying that some people like even tinier devices. just because the neeon is right for you doesn't mean that it is the ideal product for everyone else. i've looked at the extra features of the neeon and they don't interest me. there hasn't been any decent music on the radio in over a decade (my personal opinion), so that does absolutely nothing for me. the point i was trying to make is that in some aspects, the nano is superior to the neeon (size and weight, not to mention itunes) and some people are willing to pay the extra bit of cash for that. it doesn't make either device better, just different.

as far as the durability of the nano is concerned, i wouldn't worry about it too much, it survived being run over by a car: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/nano.ars/3

iTunes isn't the only legit music download service out there. The only thing that makes iTunes so popular is b/c the iPod is so popular.

I was just listing out features that the Zen Neeon had that were built-in that cost extra for the iPod. I agree that there hasn't been any real good music on the radio for a LONG time but the fact that it is built-in and not a $50(!) accessory is a nice feature.

Regardless you have to be a dillusional and REALLY biased/stupid to think that Apple's products are not overpriced.
