Snoop launches pro gaming league
Although we don't necessarily associate
video games with hip-hop (aside from the two being paired in small proportion of instances), Snoop has certainly been
making moves to change that. The cultural icon recently formed The Hip-Hop Gaming League (HHGL), which is open to
A-list musicians, athletes, producers and other entertainers personally selected by Snoop. With the Dogfather acting as the official commissioner, the first regular season will play out over five weeks, followed by a one-week playoff. Sadly, the Joystiq staff was snubbed this go-around.

Snoop: "I'm rich and eternally marketable!
I'll just pick people who are in the media spotlight to play in my game tournaments so i get gamer cred and SOMEHOW get paid to do nothing whatsoever."

Hip Hop, no association with games, thats strange???? wWo you think helped moved Madden and GTA? Most HIP HOP artist will always be shown playing both games on MTV Cribs etc on their PS2. Albiet, I think it's a negative image, there was an association. I hope they do better.

Great. More 12 year old white kids pretending to be gangsta black dudes calling everyone biatches. This is the perfect place for those punks who cheat and yell profanitys on xbox live. Meth is a helluva drug.

Rish, what do you mean who cares about Snoop? He's the icon for gansta rap. Him and my boy Dr. Dre, they keeping it real in the dog pound.
Actually, that what I would have said to Rish if it was still 1995 and anyone really gave a crap about Snoop anymore. Pack it up Snoop, most of us took our Gin and Juice cups home with us 10 years ago.

C'mon guys, be serious for a moment. If it wasn't for the hip hop culture the xbox would have been a failure of gargantuan proportions. Rappers are always promoting video games in their songs and videos. The entire marketing of the original xbox and the 360 here in America was centered around MTV and the hip hop generation. The music itself has been promintently featured in pretty much every EA game ever made. And snoop dog still makes top 20 records so it'd be pretty hard to say he isn't still importat.
I myself don't care for snoop's music but kudos to him if he wants to create a gaming league. I'd imagine he means a group of people who get together and play for fun as opposed to an actual competive league.

This isn't about hip-hop, it's about marketing, look at the corner : "Presented by Sprite"..
Ah jeez, here will go with another round of bullshit.
mlboakland @ Feb 22nd 2006 8:20PM
Snoop is a old wannabe westcoast gangster(Icon?HA!!!lol). I guarantee you that the xbox would still have succeeded without hip-hop so go play your 50 CENT bulletproof and be quite.
Singe @ Feb 22nd 2006 8:52PM
Hey, Snoop. Give me your pay check next week so I can join.

The record industry and game developers sleep in one big pile of dirty love. You think for a second these rap artists have a say about which products have to be advertised in their videoclips? It's all about dirty marketing schemes and exposure with MTV being the whore it is dishing it all out to us. Ugh, they can take their 'league' and stick it where the sun don't shine.

This is why the custom soundtrack feature of the Xbox is such a good idea!
