Bungie, PSU, & Xbox 1 games on Live/Marketplace, says Q; co-op Geometry Wars & next-gen Blizzard title coming, too
EGM's Quartermann (aka "The Q") always has some interesting scuttlebutt to share each
month, but please note that the following items of interest are derived from a recurring feature known as "The
Rumor Mill." That said, here's the next-gen speculation you came here to see [bolded text from the mag]:- "...[Phantasy Star Universe] will also arrive on the Xbox
360... a few months after the PS2" version, with your online character transferable to 360.
- "Bungie's next game is--get this--something for Xbox Live Arcade, which you can download for your 360 this spring."
- "And speaking of Live Arcade... a new Geometry Wars, complete with co-op play, is currently in the works."
- Blizzard's "currently
staffing up to make a next-gen console title" that isn't current-gen late bloomer StarCraft:
Ghost. PS3/Rev, too?
- "...[Y]ou'll be able to purchase full Xbox 1 games through
Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace in the near future." Um, bigger hard drive?

Yeah, I wanna see this happen. They better start popping out those 160 gig drives already. God forbid there is a production shortage with them too.

Next we'll be hearing they are re-releasing their standard controller with motion-sensoring and the machine will be re-released to the size of 3 dvd cases stacked together. Doesn't surprise me Microsoft would copy Nintendo since they only just outsold the gamecube, and that will change when Zelda: TP comes out.

Maybe Blizzard is working on a console Warcraft RPG. Would be sweet to see a Warcraft game with game-play similar to Fable. Either that or maybe a sequel/remake to/of Blackkthorne. Also Rock 'n' Roll Racing would be a perfect title for Xbox Live Arcade.

I bet bungie puts up the marathon games. People might like an older FPS that has elements that would become Halo.
Natrino @ Feb 23rd 2006 1:58AM
My first thought on reading the Bungie rumor was the Marathon games.
That would be sweet.

I really doubt PSU will go to the 360, and if it does, you won't be able to play with the PC/PS2 owners, nor will your character carry over. PSO EP 1 & 2 for Xbox wasn't even on Sega's servers, so if PSU was on the 360, I would think it wouldn't be either.
And "Q" seems to think that 250 hour spread across all the PSO versions is alot. I have atleast double that per character.

SCOTT.Microsoft copy nintendo???Explain. What the H3ll has nintendo done lately.Lets get real.
Sense @ Feb 23rd 2006 9:37AM
Ditto vid33nyc1,
Microsoft has had downloadable games since Xbox 1 through Xbox Live Arcade. It wasn't as well done as the 360 arcade is, but it was there.
Also, how can you copy something if it hasn't even hit the market yet?
I love Nintendo and think the Revolution will be awesome, but let's give some credit where credit is due. Microsoft has been pushing online games on Xbox since LIVE came out. That's a lot more than I can say for Gamecube and the online games for it that I can count on one hand, much less any downloadable content.
Anyway, I really hope PSU makes it to 360. I have very fond memories of playing Phantasy Star Online on my Dreamcast.

@#7 y do you think it wont be linked to the PC/PS2??
FF11 is going to be linked with the PC...
i play the FF11 beta at the moment, and they say it will be and i have read that it will be too

Alright number 3. I'm a big Nintendo fan but get your facts straight. The fact that Nintendo actually had patents pending and approved before Microsoft about a downloadable game service on a home gaming console holds no value here. Microsoft announced their service before Nintendo so they get the credit for being the first. Being so secretive and stubborn has lead to quite a few negative outcomes for Nintendo, Microsoft getting to the public first with this being one. In fact Nintendo had patents pending for an online gaming service(much like Live) that were submitted before the xbox console was even announced, as well as online voice chat, ranging online voice chat(3d sound changes based on location), voice command software in games, and so on and so forth. They just never announce anything to the public or really pushed forward publicly about making advances in these areas. Yeah it has sucked so far for them, but considering how long their service and these ideas have been in development I expect Nintendo to deliever one hell of an online service. This is why Microsoft never through a punch nintendo's way about competing with them online, they knew for a fact Sony was scrambling to create an online service line Live(which face it takes a lot of time to develope). Though they(Sony) have an advantage considering they have several online ip's that should make up for that fact.
I'll have to give credit to Microsoft for being a great competitor and being more or less original with some of their ideas. They knew things were coming, common sense says so, and jumped on it early. Nintendo would have taken their sweet time with the online service development if Microsoft hadn't pushed it so hard. Microsoft's vision has long been to push total online entertainment distribution. It's been coming for a while now, they didn't take Nintendo's ideas, but in the console department they certainly beat them to the punch. The more competition in this area, the sooner it will come to be the standard. I can't wait. Storage won't be a problem anymore in a few years.
Pixels for my people,

I agree. The XBOX live! arcade feature was available on the original XBOX, it was just extremely overlooked. Because of the fact that MS incorporated it into the 360, it got more attention then. The only reason nintendo seems to steal the spotlight is because they announced they will be releasing a large number of there back catalog for download on the revolution. Obviously the back catalog of first party titles from NES, SNES, and N64 will attract more attention than old arcade games, and new indie titles. Once the live! arcade catalog starts expanding with more popular arcade titles, classic konami, capcom, and sega games live! arcade will start to get even more recognition than it already has. Don't forget, nintendo doesn't ALL the right's to every good NES game, only the 1st party titles. Every megaman game, even new ones could appear on XBOX live!, same goes for the classic castlevania titles, and of course all the genesis and master system titles. The list of live! arcade committed developers has ALOT of big names on it, with ALOT of VERY popular classic titles in there catalogs.

All you people talking about first downloadable console games better think a bit earlier, the Mega Drive / Genesis had a network in Japan where you could download the games straight to your system.

Marathon would be sweet...I'd like to play that.
I really, really, want to see PC MMORPGs on this freaking system. I'd love to play City of Villains without paying $10 a month. $50 a year I can handle, though. =P So yeah, go PSO.
Xbox 1 games? Yay, maybe my HD can finally start running out of space! (That 160 gig will cost SO much...)
Mess @ Feb 25th 2006 5:27PM
Marathon would be sweet, I loved those games on my old PowerMac
