My wife has been looking forward to this for ages. One of the things she never liked about the sims befor this is that you couldn't follow them to work. Now she's exstatic because you can make work.

DiRect: "Expansions are just lame pieces of software code, that barely took the programmers anytime... well in this case, as this is just a really basic add on. Everything will be the same, just you will get to go work."
Maybe you didn't pay attention, but there were many refinements, enhancements, and gameplay additions in both Uni and Nightlife. Granted nothing near the work an entirely new game would take, but it also doesn't cost the price fo a new game. They are priced a bit high IMO, but so are most games these days any, especially now that the next gen are going up to $60! (And I thought $50 was pricey!)
If you believe that it's such a minor extension, then by all means wait until it hits bargain bin or EA releases a "Sims2 Ultimate Pack" or somesuch.

Actually, I imagine that a lot of stuff has to be recoded and tweaked to do an expansion pack, especially one that involves fundamental changes to the original game. You have to figure out how to build something different from the pre-existing building blocks without breaking original functionality. Sure, you don't have to make the building blocks again, but you have to figure out how to use a rigid existing system to do things for which it was never designed.
