Oh.

I'm starting to lose interest in posting because I never get a star. Oh, how I've tried. I've posted calm, reasonable posts. I've sucked up to Joystiq (that sounds horrible). And, for some reason, I just can't get a star. :-(

Well you won't get one by being all emo about it.

I guess i'll have to, white isn't an option.

Good job I stuck with white. Will they be producing more white ones for launch to compensate?

So EMO it makes me want to cry.

Any way if I remember correctly, the clear pink GBA was not released at the same time as the, White, Purple and clear Purple in the US but it was released like a week or two right after them.

Let's not talk about stars, you should post because you want to not because you want to get rewarded.

I wonder why they delayed these colors, we saw the boxes they are ready to be bought, right?

I checked out the DS Lite in Shinjuku today and it seemed really nice, although maybe a bit more fragile than I'd like. I also noticed that the system is literally silky smooth (buttons and all), but that's a good thing. So is the great screen. I didn't notice the added brightness at first, but it really makes a difference. I'll definately get one, but I'll be waiting for the dark blue to come out.

so it has a shiny surface like the psp? that really sucks! i was hoping that the outer cover would be the only part that's shiny, y'know. shiny surface is only good for looking good(when it's clean of fingerprints, etc)....damn. i hope it's not so silky smooth to where it could slip out of your hands or be hard to play if your hands get a bit sweaty.

After getting my hands on all 3, it's clear that Crystal White is the way to go. Ice Blue is too fem, and the Enamel Navy looks too much like a Japanese school uniform.

A cada su propia or something like that...

I am seriously pissed off. I'd dedicate this whole post to cussing and swearing, but it's kinda obvious not to do so. My birthday is Mar. 7, and importing my enamel lite on the 11th is seriously outrageous, but even more is how long it'll take to ship it to where I live (last time I ordered something from Hong Kong, it took 14 days). My birthday's gonna be the worst one yet, and it's gonna suck. Still love Nintendo, though, I just don't like the surprises they always pop up.

Yeah, woe betide the man whose gender is based on his console color.

Pretty interesting how custom-obsessed we are with our electronics now. After the Gameboy Pocket introduced those crazy colors to the hardware, we see limited colors everywhere. I remember the days before that--one color, and it was usually black or gray. Now we NEED to have our Gameboy (er, DS) in a color to fit our personality and everything (look at the customizable faceplates on the Micro).

Hey, I'm not complaining.

Oh boo-whoo verbatim-trogdor...

This sucks though...I was so looking forward to getting my Enamel Navy DS Lite from Lik-Sang shortly after it came out on the 2nd. :-(

Oh well...at least the delay isn't a month or something.

#12, I have the same question. I hope somebody knows the answer.

Also, have they confirmed a US release date for the DS Lite?

If it is the same as the original DS then yea it is region free.

Someone correct me if I an wrong but don't think any Nintendo portable (GB or DS) has ever had a lock-out chip in it.

They haven't confirmed a release date for the US but there is a rumor that it might be released at the same time as the New Super Mario Bros game on May 7th.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did that b/c they did something similar when the GBA first came out. It came out shortly after E3 which meant they were giving away GBA's at Nintendo's booth that year.

R: Yes, the DS is region-free. The power adapter will also work fine in the U.S.

Kinda sucks though that I won't be able to use my GBA SP charger though. It was kinda nice having one charger at home and one at work...guess I'll have to buy an extra one now.

A little off-topic, Sloopydrew, but I'll see if I can address your concerns just a bit. Here's the guide to the star system from a more relevant post to this topic made last week:

"It's pretty simple: Joystiq bloggers give readers a star for particularly good (insightful, funny, analytical) comments that add to the dialogue on Joystiq. We don't have to agree with you to give you a star. The star is simply a way for us to signal that your comments, in particular, were solid. It's also a good way for us to let newer visitors to the site know who's producing good comments so that they're modeling their behavior on the right role models."

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/16/a-brief-note-on-the-joystiq-star-system/

Calm, reasonable posts are great, but sucking up to the site's editors? That probably doesn't sound like fun for anyone, and I doubt that it's a behavior we'd want to encourage in new visitors. Just contribute something interesting and/or useful to Joystiq and its readers (think the highly rated comments on Slashdot's posts), and the recognition will come soon enough. I hope you can express yourself and remain true to who you are--without flaming--in the process. Good luck! =)

it seems like every time nintendo releases a different colored DS, the sales shoot up. Mabye some will buy the white version first, then a color a week later...

I'M LOOKING AT YOU, JAPAN.

Thanks for the advice, Dan. I was actually being sarcastic in my "sucking up" post (although I wasn't doing a very good job of it, being that every single poster thought I was serious).

I was basing the "sucking up to Joystiq" comment on the guy who got a star for complimenting a Joystiq blogger/editor's photoshop work in the Three Musketeers thread a while back. The guy got a star for doing nothing but commenting on how he thought the graphic was funny (it was actually pretty funny).

Anyway, I was playing off that and teasing a bit. Sarcasm never quite works right on the web. *Sigh*

Or maybe I just suck.

That was sarcastic.

Or was it?

Yeah, sarcasm has a way of getting lost in digital translation, Sloopydrew. I believe it's the lack of body language that can really throw people off (like yours truly), but sometimes a winking emoticon can help quite a bit in aiding in readers' online interpretations. I'll have to check out the comments on that Three Musketeers post some time and see what you're talking about, but thanks for the explanation. It certainly helped!

For some strange reason I can't explain the navy blue enamal is so appealing to me. I hate this color though, it's the color of our school uniforms I have been wearing for 7 years. I'm so confused, so cold.. I feel sorry for those who preorderd this and have to wait longer now, I know how important it can be to feel like the first one with one on your block. But seriously, a week isn't that big of a deal. Hope they ship fast. Been curious to how they handle during play. It seems as if it would be more uncomfortable than the psp to hold for a while, well if the ds had an analoge thumb disc anyway.

Tokyo outskirts and my local gameshop for the win (10 mins on a bike). Just confirmed over the phone they will do no stupid pre-orders and start selling 120 (one hundred and twenty!) pieces of shiny new white DS Lites in the morning. Yesss. Fattest pipes in the business.
