I think that if I were to redesign the PSP, it would look something like this:

Sorry for the crude mock-ups, guys. I don’t have photoshop on this computer, so I had to resort with MS Paint.

But like I was saying; clam shell design like a portable DVD player, analog stick (or sticks) in the middle, and a video out would be good additions. I threw the camera on there since they’re expecting it. It would be nice if other people could create better, more professional, mock-ups. Maybe Joystiq will post a contest on it soon. And, by the way, MS Paint sucks.

Just in case they never decide to support dual analog sticks, I made another one around based on the original design:

In my opinion, I like the way it looked better with just one analog stick. It looks like it would be more pocket sized.

What's with all the hate?

I think having intergrated 4GB flash is long overdue, especially since PSP was meant to be a media device (how are you meant to fit music and movies on 32mb?).

Yes, I am an owner of one since day 1 of aus launch. It kinda does make you feel degrated having a new version coming, but oh well - technology improves all the time and you just have to live with it. I think no one has the right to bitch when improvemnt and advancement happens (note: I doubt there will be ANY seperation of psp owners as those features won't impact games).

Anyway about games, I haven't stopped playing mine since I got it. It hasn't run out of battery on me either. Not sure for others, but I do not get 4-7 hours a day to play my PSP - at home I have my PC to play WoW.

Now if sony just ported all the PS1 games to PSP that would be sweet.

Well I guess that would me it a PORTable then...seriously though the damn thing needs some original must have titles. Not direct PS2 ports or watered down ports of PS2 games...

Why? for all we know it might be another 3-5yrs off coming out. So you have plenty of time to get the most out of your current psp.
This sounds like a complete new version to me. Just like the advance to ds from ninty.

I just hope dual anologue is included next time.

Does anyone know anything about the playstation event that is supposedly happening on feb 28th. I,ve heard theres gonna be some serious PS3 related news at this event. I also heard this is the event where solid info, finished console, release dates, price & all that were revealed before PS2. Apparently PS2 was shown at this event, then released in japan 1-2mths after.

Final Thought: Well, lets just finalize this post:
1.If sony were to improve on psp anything to do with the gaming aspect of the console is a no no. If they do that terrorists will bomb a thousand psps on thier headquarters.
2.PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do no increase the speaker volume, im having a hard time already listeing to people playing music loud on thier phones.
3.Make it look uncooler PLEASE theres already 5 boys from my school who have been robbed of thier psp.(1 boy was threatend with a knife).
4.and finally(i really wanted 2 say this)........................BROCK is and [flame] how can you compare PSP to DS. DSs lineup is going from Gold to Platinum.

MARCH 31st 2006
REvo4LiFe was sitting at home playing metroid prime DS at the same time Brock was [flame] :P :P :P :P

just wanted to pop in a laugh at everyone flaming everyone else.

why is a PSP redesign soo bad? i don't get it... and yes, it is a redesign, what else would you call it? internal add-ons require a "redesign", does it not?

and i'll be honest, i have no life, i play games as often as i probably can, and Dan can attest to that!

but complaining about a 4-8 hour battery? lets see, yes, i do remember to charge the batteries at night... so far only ONCE, this past week have i used it until it was warning me of a low battery. road trip? oh, maybe a car adapter would help. are you REALLY going to play the ENTIRE length of a flight if it's more than 4 hours? if the battery is just too short for you... or if I EVER feel the need to play for much longer than that "4-8 hours"... i'd just get an extra battery or two or three. whoopie. doesn't detract ME from the PSP... but sure, i'll give DS a pt for that.

yes, right now, the PSP library is small. but for me, there's maybe 1-3 games i wouldn't mind playing on a Nintendo handheld (either GB, DS, etc)... yes Dan, one of them is FFTA. but there are at least 10 right now, i wouldn't mind playing on the PSP.

there are plenty of non-game related reasons why i like the PSP over the DS. the DS just doesn't give me an option to listen to my music (since my MP3 player has recently died).

but yeah, that's just me and my opinion. do i HATE the DS? nah... no point in hating it.

this handheld OBVIUOSLY appeals to a number of people, just like the DS also appeals to a number of people. what's wrong with that?

The 16-bit era was fun, wasn't it? (For those unaware, I know Goobers in "real life" as well, so that's where his comments are coming from.)

But, yeah... sweet, sweet FFT-A... that and Advance Wars are the reasons why I hope Field Commander turns out all right for the PSP (for the rest of you turn-based folks out there). NIS titles on the DS and/or GBA would be nice, too.

Field Commander is looking pretty interesting to me... but another month? :( i hope my interest AFTER buying it last equally as long (if not longer) than my waiting for it. i played GTA:LCS for all of... nothing, just soon enough to get my first save (read: homebrew). i'll play it... one of these days.

hum... just noticed my typo... apparently it's not so "obvious" to me. >.

ahh yesh, the psp becomes even greater :D, when sony makes a device they really make a device, as fer the games...well, you really can't blame sony fer havin' shitty-great games, since most of the gewd games fer current consoles didn't come out asap. thusly, all you ds fanboys commentin' on how it's divertin' away from the handheld gamin' realm, can stuff it up your ass...sony built this device in mind as an "ultimate entertain device" n' ultimately i think they are fine-tunin' thier baby in a great way ;)

I really don't see what all your problems are with the PSP. It's a multimedia device... I love my PSP. I'd much rather have ONE device that performs really well in all aspects of media (Gaming, Music, Video, Internet, Flash, etc...) which other portable consoles can't do, than a device that can only do ONE aspect "ok" and have tons of other devices in my pockets in case I wanted to say... Listen to my playlists... Watch a video clip... check my email... play a game over an unsecure WIFI access point... hmmm.. That sure does sound sh*tty to me... If people have such a problem with the PSP, then voice exactly why you don't like it and be done with it? Why bash on a device? If you were all truly gamers, you wouldn't be Fanboys and would appreciate technological advancements.

WHy buy a ds.It holds no music,no movies, and no photos. The only reason why i bought it was to say i have it.if your going to buy a ds then you might as will buy a ipod video too.

As for the psp, who has the location free device? name one person who would spend 250(another psp or ipod video) to watch tv.as for game sharing it sucks battery wise i played tekken with my bother, then a hour and a half later, my battery was blinking!

Though I HATE sony, the psp is far better than any other portable device on the makrket, and if you can afford it, a new one would be GREAT. The old psp can surf the net, play videos, play games of almost any old system including sega, psp, snes... It stores music, it has an equalizer, 2gb high speed memory sticks are down to 20-50$. (8mb memory cards still cost 30$...) With the appropriate knowledge, and right versions, you can run macintosh, linux, and windows operating systems on them (includs many apps for each)
There is much more that the psp can do, but no one will really want to read this far anyways.
NOW, what exactly can the nintendo ds do?

umm... i just wanted to comment on the battery problem. it seems to me that if you want to have more than 4 to 8 hrs of battery life... why not just buy an extra bettery or two, charge them to the fullest and use them up one after the other. its not like they cost a lot. changing out batteries isnt that difficult. i use this method when on long trips. and i travel a lot. it is nothing for me to be in a car for 16 hrs at time. but 3 batteries have lasted me for any amount of time i have needed, and i play games the whole time....just a thought guys...

Look psp might have flopped compared to what they said it would be. ds is nothing but a load of shit, the good games it really has should not partake to any real gamer. i mean taking care of a dog, thats rediculous go buy a real dog and actualy feel the love and warmth of a friend. psp's potential is there but not taken advantage of yet. its more than just a gaming device. its a portable multimedia system, which really needs to drop wifi and find a new connection to the internet, such as verizon adaption. if they could conjure that up it would be 50 times better, not needing an access point. or link it through a cell phone or something like that. sony has there minds in the right place, but there not putting it together right. the games could be expanded with an around the clock internet connection. the camera could be flipped over the top to take pictures of other things, and the 4 gigs, flash drive are dropping in price by the month. i payed 88 dollars for a gig flash card when they came out now there down to what 40 bucks? including the adaption to the longer stick. by the time sony actually remodels the psp parts keep dropping in price. i know i store everything on my psp from music to videos, adn game data doesn't take much space at all, an always connected internet would change dramatically how the psp runs.games are getting better, slowly but they are, there games are a lil bit more suffisticated than anything nintendo has ever come out with. i think the psp matches up to the game cube with ease. really let sony play around since nintendo has about 3 different versions of the same system, gba, gbsp, micro, and theres more but i cant think of them off the top of my head. theyll get it right eventually, but i think multiplay with an actual story mode could get really big if they get it to work right. there is nothing better than teaming up with your best friend to take on thos really togh games. single player is a little overated. sorry but thats how it is.
