The only possible disadvantages Nintendo might create for itself lie in the as of yet unrevealed features of the remote. Everything they've revealed so far looks and seems great. Everyone who's tried the remote has reviewed it well and make it sound very user friendly, I don't see how anyone could feel alienated by it if they really understand it. So as long as the final controller secret doesn't suck, it seems like they've done a good job. The problem is, it seems like a lot of people who haven't done their research won't understand the remote, and might feel alienated. Since most casual gamers will fit that lack-of-research bill, it could present a problem early on (before word of mouth takes full effect). If this is the case, and Nintendo doesn't move many consoles in the first few months, it could definitely affect third party support, which would further damage Nintendo's chances with casual gamers. I don't expect this to happen though, since the Rev will probably cost about 1/3 what the PS3 will, and will apeal in that way early on.

If you disagree with this post, you are wrong, and stupid.

Dear #43
You make some valid points, and some stupid ones. The one I have the biggest problem with is:
"The controller is a gimmick, just like those arcade games that let you ride a motorcylce while you play a motorcycle game. Its fun for a short time but at some point you realize that the actual game sucks."
Those games are inherently bad, and don't feel like real motorcycles at all. A fun game, with easy to use controls, will be enormously enhanced by the remote. A good example of this (no matter how much it annoys me to hear people compare the Rev controller to a light gun) is duck hunt. That game was simple but undeniably fun, and could never have been done with a traditional controller. The Rev's controller is taking this so much further, by allowing this kind of enhancement in much more complex games, and giving it much more than just point and click capabilities. It's not a gimmick, if it works the way it should, and developers have any kind of ingenuity, it will indeed be revolutionary.

#41, you said this
"Ask the general person on the street what a playstion 3 is & they will answer "the new playstation", ask them what a 360 is & they will turn round from facing you & do a full spin, until they are back facing you. Ask them what a revolution is & they will tell you that it's a bunch of iraqi civilians shooting back at american troops."
First of all, you are a fool. Just because the PS3 has a more traditional sequel name doesn't make it more recognizeable(say any well known product and add the number 2 or 3 to the end, and people will know it's the sequel asshole).More average people are more aware of the 360, because it's already out.
I would have excused your stupidity if you had at least been clever enough to point out that a revolution (as in RPM)is the same thing as a 360 (as in 360 degree turn). Maybe you could have closed with something like "It's all the same trash next to the PS3." Or "It's ironic that Sony is going to be the one running circles around them." Try harder not to be such an idiot.

Ya know Keith...calling people "stupid" or "moron" doesn't really make you seem any smarter...even if the person you are talking about is misinformed.

I think the industry will be scared to use the Rev controller. It’s not a new game it’s a huge change from how we love to play games right now. If a car was released on the market and you didn't use a steering wheel but something completely different, do you think it will be a success? (Pretend that its road worthy and that we are allowed to drive it) I know the Rev controller is different but my point is that everyone is afraid of change. You have to gradually get there not completely change it. I mean the cd disc was invented years before they announced to the world and that’s because they thought it was too early for a change in the way we listen to music. Its one step at a time, not a huge leap.

My mates a Nintendo fan and he slag’s of other consoles, says that the games on 360 aren't graphically next-gen. He'll be surprised when the Rev isn't any better. It’s not about graphics right? Or realism. I do think when it comes to realism on the Rev, Nintendo are going backwards. If all 3 was to make quirky fun like games, then who will forward the technology to create life-like games? Where will the ladder be to step up closer to that holo-dec that we see on Star Trek? I think you know what I mean. One day we would like to be in a racing game where the gfx are as real as being there and the physics are super realistic that a real driving racer couldn't tell the difference. Super human AI for the computer opponents. Actual feeling of g-force. Yes were talking many decades from now but a company needs to be on that ladder to get us there.

I think it will be good to have a Rev for when you want to have a fun adventure or have a laugh with mates. And a PS3 for when we get more serious and we want that sports title and racer or a hardcore game with violence where we can get a buzz and adrenaline rush from the guns and action.

Oh well...my new HDTV has HDMI and by the time more HDMI devices come out the prices of switch boxes will drop as well. They run around $130+ on eBay which isn't TOO bad but its still a little pricey.

I agree that Blu-ray or Hd-Dvd is not going to be the killer next gen format that regular DVD is now, we are moving to systems like TIVO where the format is the Hard Drive and with broadband streaming content, I say good riddance now as long as I am protected from a Hard Drive crash costing me a 1000 dollars in songs, (you need good digital ownership rights) I have no problem D/L MP3's that I own on scratched unreadable original disks, hell I bought personal use of the songs when I bought the CD not rights to the CD "Medium"

The 3 systems and their strengths/weakness:
(Graphics/Power is omitted since 2 of 3 systems are not comparable yet, and I really don’t give a crap about ‘eye-candy’ compared to gameplay)

XBOX 360
Strength - Has an amazing online infrastructure that gamers seem to be enjoying. Online experience is better on XBOX Live than on PC gaming, mostly because of the 'player rating' system (smack-talkers are given low scores and can be filtered out of groups). The inclusion of downloadable content doesn’t hurt, either. MMORPGs and the ilk are the wave of the future, and Xbox has a foot already in the door.
Weakness - I can usually (USUALLY!) get most of an XBOX library in PC format. (Exceptions: Halo, and anything from ‘Rare’ or 'Team Ninja'). If the XBOX 360 is to be the kingpin, then it needs exclusive, memorable titles (think Nintendo and its cast of iconic characters) that BOTH the Japanese market, AND American market will consume like hotcakes. Halo (as cool as it may be) can’t keep XBOX afloat forever.

PS3
Strength - Developers. With support by the game world's biggest companies (Capcom, Square-Enix, Konami, EA, etc) and the support of lesser-known developers, the PS3’s gaming library (if history repeats itself) will be very expansive. This is what gamers want more than 'eye-candy'; they want 'selection'. I mean, imagine the greatest gaming system EVER only having 10 games? That’s what killed systems like ‘Atari Jaguar’ and ‘3DO’. Also, the library will definitely include the highly-acclaimed, PS-Only titles like Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, MGS4, Kingdom Hearts, Tekken, GTA, and GranTurismo. Infact, the ability to play PS1 and PS2 titles is a solid-gold idea. If the PS3 is easier to program (as it is rumored to be), then there is little doubt that the game selection will be very impressive.
Weakness – Sony has an extremely weak online system. It may work for some, but after XBOX Live, you never want to go back. And unless Sony clones the XBOX Live getup (specifically the ‘player rating system’ and downloadable content) their online gaming will continue to be (comparatively) as enjoyable as masturbating with a cheese-grater.

NINTENDO REVOLUTION
Strength - Nintendo has, and will ALWAYS have one thing: 'Innovation'. ‘Nintendogs’ is a bizarre concept, but people love it because it's so different from the main-stream. There are lawyer games, surgery games, and even a type of 'Cast Away'-type game ('Blue [something]...'). People get tired of FPS and the millions of RPG clones, and developers seem to be wary of making new-genre games for fear of failure. Hopefully, Nintendo will let developers ‘tinker’ with new ideas. The controller is also interestingly different, and it breeds curiosity because who wouldn't like a Zelda game where you hack and slash enemies with a flick of the wrist? That’s immersion!
Weakness – No doubt about it, Nintendo caters to kids. Mario Tennis, Mario Baseball, Mario DDR, Mario Pro-Bass Fishing, Mario (fill in the blank)… the list goes on. Put more ‘mature’ titles out for the Revolution (cough, RE4, cough), and I guarantee that the Revo will get the attention it deserves. While Nintendo’s at it, they should create another iconic hero to help diversify their 1st party games, rather than rely on Mario, DK, Samus and Link to pull them through.

Anyways, that’s my 2-cents.
Take it or leave it.

Why is it that people classify anything that is a Mario themed game as "kiddy" and there for are not deep game or fun games?

Some of those so-called "kiddy" games are among the best designed, hardest to master and most memorable titles.

all i hear is none sense on this bulletin, first of all those who think GRAPHICS make a game, well really it doesnt, look at the history, the old NES outsold Sega even wen Sega came out with the Genesis which was two times stronger than the NES... PS1 outsold N64 and N64 was twice as strong as the PS1. Ok now kids, this seems to be a war between only the 360 and the PS3 in your minds but really Nintendo Revolution is in a league of its own. U guys talk alot of crap about its controller and games wen u guys havent even touched the damn thing or played with it, i for once thought the DS wasnt gonna be successful, i was like "wtf is 2 screens gonna do" then i played plenty of games with it and the touchscreen and shit i fell in love. PS3 and 360 can duke it out while Revo can sit back and just laugh at two mindless Giants kill one another and thats wen nintendo comes in and kicks both of em in the balls lol.
