Is the next Mortal
Kombat really the end of the series? The end of fatalities, brutalities, animalities, and babalities? Midway
executive and series co-creator Ed Boon told IGN that the forthcoming Armageddon would in fact be the end of
the current generation of MK releases. "It also is the final battle between all the good and evil
characters in the MK universe. We really want to close this chapter of Mortal Kombat," said
Boon.He also talked about Armageddon's graphical enhancements and the challenges in re-creating certain older 2D characters for the latest 3D engine-- including bosses such as Motaro. Given the success of the recent crop of Mortal Kombat titles, we can certainly expect next gen releases. But will future entries advance the fighting genre, or will they continue to focus on expanding the franchise into RPG and adventure-themed titles? And what kind of new characters can we expect?
