Body ports: Nintendo controller port tattoos

Go Nintendo reader Olivier sent them pictures of his tattoos, an armband featuring controller ports from Nintendo's various consoles: NES, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, and GameCube.
There's something very eXistenZ about having gaming ports on your body; admittedly, they're not on his lower spine... though that would be a cool tattoo.

That would be an interesting one to explain to your friends, just for the face you get from most people... pretty cool though.
cyberfelon @ Feb 27th 2006 11:25PM
Tattoos are dumb, especially novelty tattoos.
julie @ Feb 27th 2006 11:34PM
no. sorry. those are cool as fuck.
mercatfat @ Feb 27th 2006 11:35PM
"B-b-b-but Mom! It's how I express myself!"
i wish fewer people used that as a catch-all for justifying looking stupid and limiting their career options for the rest of their lives.

I'm really glad there are people out there who have stopped judging others based on aspects of their skin.
cyberfelon @ Feb 28th 2006 12:45AM
@src18699
So if I burn patterns into my arms with a soldering iron, nobody can judge me because I've only affected an aspect of my skin? Nice one.
WhiteTigerShiro @ Feb 28th 2006 12:51AM
I don't know if anyone noticed this, but look at the controller ports:
The SNES port has the rounded edge on the right. It's the 2nd-Player port.
The N64 has 3 dots, the 3rd-Player port.
The GC has 4 dots, the 4th-Player port.
This leaves the NES port, of which both were identical on the system, but obviously it would've been the 1st-Player port if there was a way to differenciate them.
src18699 @ Feb 28th 2006 12:55AM
You apparently missed the entire spirit of my post. I'm saying you shouldn't judge people by what's on their skin, be it ink or scars or whatever. What you do with your arm or your soldering iron is none of my business, and I would prefer to base my judgement on the content of your character. Pardon me for wanting to understand a person by more than what I see.
renaldo @ Feb 28th 2006 1:02AM
Judas H. Priest. Leave these people alone, who cares if they get a tattoo.
Jago @ Feb 28th 2006 1:04AM
It's kinda pathetic that people still think that if you get a tattoo you are automatically limiting your career opportunities in EVERY industry.
...in saying that...(and being a big fan of Nintendo)...that is STUPID. If you get a tattoo at least have it mean something personal to you. I got a tattoo on my lower right leg late last summer:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v303/jag0/final_tattoo.jpg
It says "Artist", a scorpion for my Zodiac sign (Scorpio) and it has a digital Wacom pen in its claw (since I am a digital artist.)
The ONLY time I would ever get a tattoo of something video game related, it "might" be a SMB 1-up mushroom but it would be small...but I doubt I would do it.
cyberfelon @ Feb 28th 2006 1:05AM
If you look at the comments carefully you'll see that no character judgements were made. It was only said that tattoos are dumb and make people LOOK stupid.
Jago @ Feb 28th 2006 1:08AM
...and comments like that are "dumb" as they are unneeded and don't offer anything to this story.
jah75157 @ Feb 28th 2006 1:18AM
Jago just curious but being an artist did you draw out that tatto yourself? (did you check with someone that speaks whatever language that is? ((japanese i'm assuming)) I had a buddy that thought he was getting a strength tatto and it really said small land)
anyway I think they are actually pretty cool tattos and I don't have tattos I've never seen one i'd want on my body for life. Well 2 out of 4 in the above pic are cool at least. (the last two just in case you wondered) It's nice seeing a tat that isn't the same old crap, now if he got a tat of like pac man or something i'd think that was kinda dumb, just like the mighty mouse tattos, or any cartoon character in general. It's nice to see someone put that kind of abstract thought into a tat. (yeah i said abstract and it's really symbolic so flame on me) I mean the coolest tatto i've seen was on my friend brad, he has a fork on his spine It's just so out of place it's actually pretty cool, just like these tattos. allright rock and roll.
Jago @ Feb 28th 2006 1:31AM
It's actually chinese and yes I'm sure that's what it says...but no I did not draw it. My "traditional" drawing skills aren't all that great but a close friend of mine actually drew it out and did the entire tattoo. I gave the guidelines and what specific things I wanted and she added in the details and stuff.
king louse @ Feb 28th 2006 1:34AM
"I'm saying you shouldn't judge people by what's on their skin, be it ink or scars or whatever."
I think you kiddies are confusing what 'should' with what 'is'...
it's not a logical, rational world. treat it as such and you're gonna get burned.

#1 reason to NOT get a tattoo containings words or symbols from a languge or culture that is (1) not native to you, or (2) you simply don't understand fluently yourself :
http://www.soufoaklin.com/tattooartist.html
You HOPE that says "artist"...
Jago @ Feb 28th 2006 1:44AM
I'll say it again...it DOES say artist and if you read my post I said a close friend did the tattoo herself.
mercatfat @ Feb 28th 2006 1:46AM
well, yeah it doesn't limit you in every industry. fast food and retail will still love you. so will the "freelance" industry.
also, i've never met a chick with a lower back tattoo who doesn't go down easy. i'm dead serious. every single one.
Jago @ Feb 28th 2006 1:52AM
Not EVERY industry requires their employees to wear uniform, wear a stuffy business suit or act like they have a stick up their ass ya know.
Since I both work in the game industry, have PLENTY of friends who work at various studios and having been going to E3 every year since 1999...I can tell you that tattoos are not taboo.
Besides...even if ou do work in a stuffy business atmosphere, you can get the tattoo in areas that would normally be covered up by work clothes.
mercatfat @ Feb 28th 2006 2:13AM
"you can get the tattoo in areas that would normally be covered up by work clothes."
and i will not disagree with that. visible tattoos, though, can be a killer.
whether or not the industry requires a "uniform" is irrelevant.
Jago @ Feb 28th 2006 2:24AM
True they can be but in my case when I originally started my job as an intern (and when I wore shorts) I either got "cool tattoo" or they just didn't really seem to care/notice.
Out receptionist/office manager has plenty of visible tattoos and no one cares...in fact some visitors to our office compliment her on them.
SilverDogg @ Feb 28th 2006 2:24AM
dont make me come down there and shoot you!

mercatfat @ Feb 28th 2006 2:39AM
"in fact some visitors to our office compliment her on them"
i reiterate, in broad terms: girls with multiple tattoos tend to be easy. lower back tattooed girls in particular.
men, in broad terms, want to get it on frequently.
hmm.
Jago @ Feb 28th 2006 2:46AM
In VERY broad terms you mean...
bodhi @ Feb 28th 2006 3:08AM
tatoos aren't career killer, well it depends where you put them, for instance i have a tatoo on my chest, and since i always have to be dress up (i'm no stripper) nobody complains about it
Kye @ Feb 28th 2006 9:03AM
I would LOVE to see this guy's tattoo of the Revolution controller port!
:-p
As for tattoos...
I've got a tattoo of the yin yang sign on my arm,
It has two (fairly) opposite but complimentary & interdependant words, one on each side. It's something I've planned for years and I haven't regretted getting it since.
My sister wanted one and my advice to her was to make sure it's what she wants.
My point - live and let live, I wouldn't encourage or discourage anyone to get a tattoo, Only advice them to make a well thought out decission.
So what if M3mnoch wants a pic of Myamoto on his *&$@
If that makes his happy then thats his business. Now if he wanted to tattoo a pic of Luigi on a child's forehead, THEN maybe we should speak up.
And although I can agree with some of your views (sometimes) kizza, at points you can be a real ass.
That's why you have -5 stars.
Deal with it.
Harry Herpes @ Feb 28th 2006 9:04AM
Pointless argument..Move on, let's just agree to disagree. END

God, eXistenZ was an awful movie.
Q @ Feb 28th 2006 10:02AM
I have tattoos on my lower arms that are frequently visible while I'm at work, and I make a very good living (probably more than the people who say they ruin your career). That's the joy of being a Creative Director!
Dave @ Feb 28th 2006 11:06AM
What an obscure reference to such a terrible movie.
C. Grant @ Feb 28th 2006 11:33AM
I love eXistenZ!
Andrew Moon @ Feb 28th 2006 4:07PM
eXistenZ rocked! better and smarter than the matrix.
