Black isn't even a great PS2 title to begin with.

Lol, Momus is right. Black's very smooth and good looking, but it's not a great game.

But, as mentioned in the artcle, lots of great titles. God of War 2, whenver it ships, will be a blast. And having access to a great used market were I can pick up titles that I missed for $20 is what makes this period while we wait for next gen so sweet.

Given that BLACK sucks, it's unlikely to be the last great PS2 game. Psychonauts would come closer.

But either way, there's likely more coming.

This just seems like some stupid freebie thrown to EA by the publishers of the mag. "Hey, EA, how'd you like a cover for your mediocre game?"

They also have to see if as many people actually go out and buy the next generation. For the average consumer $150-$200 (especially around the holidays) isn't such a big deal but these new systems are upwards of $300. Analysts can't even figure out how sony could possibly sell the ps3 for less than $500.

I really love games (but I love common sense too) but that's ridiculously expensive and there's no way I'll pay it. Honestly, I only got the ps2 because it was free. An xbox360 I might be willing to pay for (and not sell on ebay), but not at it's current price. So far the Revolution is the only new machine I'm really interested in, not just because of price (which is expected to be very reasonable) but it just looks like a trip.

If they're smart they'd wait to see what thes new generation does on the shelves before they stop making games for the old generation because people may just not be all that impressed. At least not impressed enough to spend $500. I only know (personally) one guy who has a 360 and I don't know anyone planning to buy the ps3 at launch. I don't think the companies realize how much a jump in price like that would effect the mass of consumers.

Well, if you look to Gamecube, we still havent gotten what's sure to be one of the best 'Cube games ever: The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess

I know a lot of people who are gonna be a-buying that the day it comes out (naturally, the Revolution's backwards compatability is gonna help, for those that want their Revo with some Zelda lovin)

I'm really looking forward to Phantasy Star Universe for PS2, even though it will also be available for PC.

I am hoping that most game development companies are transitioning over to next generation consoles. Although I do believe that the current consoles still have room for growth in creative games, developers should take advantage of the next generation hardware available to them for their games. If they are concerned about their company's future, it is better to learn sooner than later about the platforms they will be developing on, rather than letting other third developer companies getting a head start on this portion of the market.

Usually when the next generation of consoles comes around I dont look back on current gen. Though new games are good for the people just jumping into the Xbox/PS2.

It would be nice if the lastest model of the PS2 played PS2 games. There's a list on Sony's website of games it won't even play (including 2005) titles.

http://www.us.playstation.com/ConsumerAlerts.aspx?id=softwareTitles_75001.html

Works out great when you buy a brand new game and can only return it for the same title that won't ever play in your PS2. By the way, the list is just what they've discovered so far...it's up to customers to find the rest!

@7, Q. Nice of you to mention this, Q.

... lol, people can't stop complaining about the suckness factor of the 360's backwards compatibility and now we have another reminder that Sony has never had a great track record either. First it was a list of ps1 games that weren't backwards compatible and now it's ps2 games that won't even run on a ps2! Yet the systems have used the same primary hardware and coding and still they can't even get BC or current games to work right... but anyways...

If Sony (or even Nintendo) would have gotten their next gen console out like MS had already done the proverbial nail would be already in the coffin for last gen. As it stands with only the 360 on the market, the next generation console hurrah hasn't really hit us yet.

I subscribe to OPM, Official Xbox Mag., and Game Informer. To say that these publications are in the pocket of the game companies is quite obvious. Their publications are subsidized by ad revenue and the editorial staff must cater to it. The games they rave about in prose peppered with nuggets culled from the urban dictionary this month will all but be forgotten in the not-too-distant future. The game they feature for half a year in previews and publisher diaries is often met with public apathy and anemic reviews upon release.

How often do we see Roger Ebert hawking an upcoming movie release?

When was the last time a "not new" game was exclusively displayed on a cover? Their "it's new or not worth mentioning again" philosophy is derivative from their sponsors. They're pushing the new product.

The publishers will speak of the new consoles as if we knew the old ones were junk all along. The old consoles are better than they ever were. The hardware is improved, much cheaper and game prices for the older great games are tremendous right now. Game publishers don't make money from used game sales so they push the magazine publishers to act as if they don't exist.

If a magazine solely devoted to great gaming experiences and culture existed, new game releases wouldn't consistantly dominate its focus.
