Sid Shuman has written a feature on "Five Ways to Save the
Xbox 360." He prefaces, "Microsoft's latest gadget is stumbling in more ways than one... here's what
Microsoft needs to do to make the Xbox 360 the leading next-gen console." While we agree--to some degree--with most of his points, we'll contest that the 360 is in need of saving. Heck, it's just getting started!
- Hardware redesign: while we wouldn't mind a smaller console, compared to the PS3, it's tiny! It takes a lot of room to pack in all that power. Now that Microsoft owns the silicon, they might be able to do with the 360 what they never could with the Xbox™: shrink it! We contest that the current design "sucks" however.
- Killer app--it's coming. We know, they know it. It's a waiting game. Don't forget about the "second wave" of games coming also!
- Get GTA4 as a 360 exclusive--it would be in Rockstar's best interest for cross platform pollination, unless somebody makes it worth their while. Either way, Rockstar's working on a 360-exclusive game. GTA was getting stale anyhows...
- MMO's--don't think
Final Fantasy XI is what he means, but
maybe X-Quest is.
Here's our MMO wishlist.
- Digital distribution--this might be coming sooner than we think. SiN Episodes is due to be distributed through Valve's STEAM service on the PC episodically, and the developers have revealed an interest in porting it to the Xbox 360.
