Geez, if you want to increase the profanity on Xbox Live, it's almost too easy. Just say that Linkin Park, Eminem, and/or Slipknot sucks.

one time i told a guy with "texan" in his name that texas was a garbage state and the guy went bezerk, pretty classic.

I'm all for profanity but all people do on xbox live is talk about the girl they met at Wal-Mart and call you a n****r regardless of your race. But then again, we are a christian conservative nation.

It kind of reminds me of the "Stan Lee experience" from xplay.
You know these laid back old men lose it every once in a while. Now if we could only really capture it.

Good point 32 footsteps(like the TMBG song?). You could also get the same effect by saying Halo is a cheap rip off of Quake.

Nah, I'll pass on talking to anyone during a Live game. I'd much rather use animal sound effects or wav clips of TV shows or movies. You know the old saying of how it's better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you’re an idiot, than to open it and prove they’re right? It's never been more suitable than it is now.

I wonder how online Metroid Hunters is going to go over with voice chat enabled before matches.

Is there such a thing as a joystiq effect? The site was down for a while but it's back up now.

Heh, it's not often someone catches the origin of my nom de plume. You found me out, Gonzo.

Anyhow, I wonder if companies are going to start making parental locks prohibit minors from accessing online games. I mean, even I get a little foulmouthed when I lose (although mostly just the obligatory "Damn!" upon not finishing first).

What is it about Halo 2 that brings out the worst in people? You cannot find another game on XBox Live with more vulgarity, obscenity, bad sportsmanship, and hostility than Halo 2. The answer lies in the nature of the game itself.

Halo 2 is a horribly frustrating game that where your skill isn't necessarily what determines your success, it's who studied that FAQ's the hardest and who may the best uses of their mod-chips to cheat in a multiplayer match. The rampant cheating ( which Bungie tries to curtail with its Auto Patch updates ) angers a lot of people which is a large part of the hostile atmosphere of Halo 2. The clans and ranking system makes Halo 2 a very competitive type of game and this ultra-competitve nature of this game feeds the aggression and hostility.

Funny how Halo for the PC when played online is a relatively laid back experience. The difference is that Halo for the PC doesn't have ranked matchmaking, doesn't support clans, doesn't feature Voice Over IP chat, and seems to have little or no cheating compared to Halo 2.

I actually find the !@#%-talkers amusing...their quips are usually far from anything remotely educated. When I want to get serious, and I'm not playing with people in my friends list, I just remove the headset.

Never been to Virginia Beach (Busch Gardens is the closest I've come) but it turned up in Google's beautiful image search. Seemed appropriate! :)

GlitchCog, since you can only play with friends via WiFi, I have a feeling that unless your friends are total douche bags, the microphone communication between matches will work fine.

The best soundboard has got to be the Arnold Schwarzenegger one. I've actually been in a few rooms where I start going 'HOW ARE YOU!' and 'IM DETECTIVE JOHN KIMBLE' and much to my surprise, other people pick up on it and start doing it. Of course, there is always that dope who asks, 'Who is John Kimble?'

The game doesn't matter. Online incivility is rampant and its everywhere, especially with VoIP. It is much easier to talk than type, and when you talk you get to listen to your own voice. Yay!

The other side of this is that Brad is a jerk. Every time he makes a tape, everyone else in the game or the chat room suffers. Baiting people, even if they are idiots, is just wrong and just one more example of the griefing that goes on.

Why even enable Voie Over IP chat during the game ( and allow voice chat only before and after a match in the lobby )? Wouldn't online gaming be better without the in-game voice chat? Do PC games with voice chat suffer from the same problems XBox Live games?

Your comment confuses me, Pixelantes_anon. Why ban Brad? He's not the one spewing hatred and obscenity, he's just exposing it. I think it's pretty funny and educational, too. Knowing what goes on in these games just makes me want to stay away. These n-bomb dropping jerks deserve much worse than hearing a few Mr. Rogers clips.

He's not exposing these idiots as much as he is exploiting them for his own personal humour as he seems to enjoy inciting other people to anger (a quality I don't admire).

Imp,

Ah, I didn't know the Metroid Hunters voice function for the DS was only going to be available for friends. That explains a lot. Thanks.

Thomas Crymes I think you are shooting he messenger here. The real people that need to be banned are the evil players. I agree that is not possible. Your solution to ban the Mr Rogers guy seems knee-jerk.

I've got an idea. MS sets up a list of banned words and every time you use one some of your personal information flashes above you for a split second. Fast enough that it'll be hard to notice, especially if you let something slip. However the more you use those words the more information is revealed and the more likely people will know who you are and where you live. Scary, but I bet it would be effective.

"What did you just call me? A what? And a what too!!??...hey, you live a few miles from me!!...I'll be over shortly and we'll continue this conversation"

illuminatus, I'm sure it's funny to you ("hahha, people swearing on Xbox live, funneee").

I'm sure it's not as funny to the people in the same game with him when he's baiting. Read it in his own words. He acknowledges he's f***ing it up for everyone else while making a cute website for his own benefit. He's a leech.

Pixelantes, I completely agree with you.

This 'Brad' is a moron. In most of the recordings I listened to, it seems like he is instigating the angry shouting matches. Wow, big discovery: people become angry when provoked. Shocking. I do agree that the amount of swearing and hatred in online Halo 2 matches is excessive, but he is only making it worse.

ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!!

and the funniest thing is, that most adults would ignore this, but the 12yr olds just encourage this brad by "salivating to the ring of his bell" so to speak.

Absolutely hilarious!

I have no problem with Brad baiting this these losers. I play halo 2 quite a bit, and in my experience people take this game WAAAAAAAAYYYY too seriously.

Theres absolutly no way I could ever be baited into getting mad at a video game so I have no sympathy for anyone who does. Its a video game... it doesn't matter, at all. Play with people on you friends list. If somebody is griefing you, mute them... end of story.
