obviously you have no idea what a corporate expense account is for. expenditures like this affect the bottom line about as much a fly's flight path affects the gravitational pull of the moon.

$1000 is almost certainly worth it as marketing, the shareholders will be fine.

It's funny, you know, 'cause they could have donated that money to Childs Play instead. But they didn't. You know? 'Cause being a petty ass is funnier.

Oh wait.

DKH - I suggest you expand your search for corporate injustice a bit farther than the halls of SNE. I feel you may - JUST MAY - discover even more expenditures to shock the conscience.

Well I take it for what it is and the battle of wits was won by S.O.Bs at S.O.E. Very well played. If I was there I couldn't have been able to stifle a chuckle.

Attention Sony! Without an extensive hands-on interactive demo of the PS3 at E3 the negative press will doom the product!

That should be good for a month's worth of groceries.

Penny Arcade responses are the best:

"A few people have made the comment to me that it was nice of SOE to send us one donut for every subscriber they have. The other funny remark I heard was that this is the best product SOE has ever shipped. You guys are mean."

Hahhahah, touche.

Hahah,PWNED indeed. I don't want to sound like a negetive Ned,but where is the Joystiq reader's sense of humor? I mean,I don't want the comments to be flooded with a bunch of kids saying "LOL THOSE N00bS!" or anything, but it seems like everyone is a bunch of guys with their chests out saying "I'm an adult and we dont do things like that and mer mer mer"

Like with that "letter to Sony" article. I came in expecting to see tons of people saying "HOLY SHIT THATS FUNNY!" and "Hahaha what a dumbshit kid!" but instead I get people pointing out grammatical errors. It's kinda like the people you tell a joke to and instead of laughing they analyze it and ask questions about it "Well, why would there be a horse in a bar?".

For shame joystiq readers :(

You should put the remarks up as an update: "This is the best product SOE has ever shipped"

Well said OTAM.
I now rarely see the point in posting to many blogs and joystiq seems to be worse and worse each day. It is just full of posters with chips on their shoulder and just seem to feel the need to vent at some corporation or another.
For shame indeed.

BTW The last time I checked, a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts was $6.75...how does 100 dozen donuts equal $1000 dollars? Did I take the wrong math course?
$6.75 x 100 != $1000
$6.75 x 100 = $675

$675 for getting talekd about on multiple of gaming websites is a spec in a game advertising budget. (As is $1000 even).

Personally, I'd take a shipment of 100 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts to be an act of war. Of course, I can't stand the things... I could name a dozen donut companies that are better.

Still, it was really funny.

If getting 'PWNED' means getting over 1000 free doughnuts, then I guess I don't really understand the meaning of the term 'PWNED'.

It sounds to me like SOA got embarrassed and this is their desperate attempt to regain favor with a site that has a huge influence on the gaming community.

Wow some of you guys are cracking me up ... "SOE got embarressed and trying to regain favor with penny arcade"

It's this simple ... Penny Arcades comic was fuggin hilarious ... SOE Could have

A) Got into an email match as somebody said earlier ...

B) Let it go and not respond to it ...

or

C) Spend $600 to get back a little at PA and get a TON of free press (Prices based on .50 a donut) and look semi respectable in the process. The publicity they are getting from this is priceless.

PWNED? Hmm...while it was ...nice... of SOE to send the PA guys all those tasty delights...I don't think we can call PA pwned until SOE does something that invalidates the points PA has about their crappy attitude towards making games.

Now, if they ship DC Online, or whatever, and it blows away all other MMORPGs, and everyone loves it, and the staff of Blizzard all commit suicide in shame...THEN we can call PA PWNED.

And I'll bet you 1200 donuts that won't happen.
