In what way and on what planet does an Atari game get classified as a Nintendo game? Nintendo fanboys are insane. Paperboy has little to nothing to do with Nintendo. Most people who played Paperboy played it before the NES was even released. Does the Nintendo cult claim Pac-Man and Gauntlet as their own as well? Atari established the home console industry so I think they deserve to get some credit for their own games. Anyone who associates Paperboy with Nintendo is retarded, since Paperboy is a product of the Arcade era and has already been released on dozens of non-Nintendo platforms.

29,

"There was a Mega Man collection on Sega Genesis"

That wasn't the obvious one I was going for, but interesting nonetheless :)

Good God, what have I done?

I'm just glad to see a game that *I* remember playing on my old NES and in the arcade. Lots of people are excited about playing Nintendo's old games on the Revolution. I just thought this was good news. It says right there in the headline that it was a 3rd party Nintendo title, which it was (among other versions). A classic game on XBLA is good news to me.

What's with all the vitriol?

At first I thought it actually meant a game designed and/or published by Nintendo, but before I clicked I realized that couldn't be, and whoever wrote the headline was just an idiot.

Paperboy didn't come from Nintendo I agree.I remember it most from a Commodore64 loading from a good ole tape deck.I played it on the arcade originaly but it was too expensive at that time. It's great that these game are being resurrected as I see that old games are precursors to new games.Nostalgia is good,we are always connected to the past.

From the title, it would appear that Paperboy which is coming to Xbox 360 arcade, is a port of a game that originated on the Nintendo. I think people are just commenting that it originated in the arcade and from Atari. Several companies, including Mindscape, Midway, and others ported it to a lot of other systems.

To imply that older Nintendo games are coming to the Xbox 360 is a little misleading. What is actually happening is Atari games are coming to the 360

"Now if Capcom took the old Mega Man games that were only on the NES and SNES, and put them all in a collection, (perhaps to celebrate his anniversary or something like that), and then released it on non-Nintendo consoles, that would be a bigger story."

you mean, like, if there was a Mega Man Anniversary Collection or something?

like that'd ever fly.

I think the problem here is mostly in the headline. The game going to XBLA is NOT the NES version, it's the original arcade version. To imply otherwise is disingenuious.

But see here:
"but most readers will have experienced it first on the NES"

What planet do you live on?
Like it or not, Paperboy is not a memorable NES classic. It's a game that originated in the arcade, was quite popular in the arcade, and the arcade version is was every single port was based on. The XBLA version is clearly going to be an emulated version of the arcade version, not the NES version. Even mentioning the NES version is deliberately misleading.

Midway Games acquired what was left of Atari Games, the arcade unit of Atari that was spun off, after Atari Inc was sold Jack Tramiel. Atari Inc, responsible for the 2600 VCS console, and various home computers, would eventually end up a property of Infogrames.

From the article, it almost appears as if Midway released Paperboy, which would be incorrect. Atari created and released Paperboy. Midway simply now owns Atari Games.

So the 'Xbox 360 snags a classic Atari title' (which happened to be ported to the NES and about 15 other systems).
