The Outfit multiplayer demo now available on XBL
THQ had hoped that its
multiplayer demo would be released this past Friday, just in time for weekend gamers to get a taste of The Outfit before GRAW and
Burnout hit the Xbox 360 this week. Instead, the weekend passed by without an update. Today, the demo
finally went live.Intended to showcase The Outfit's multiplayer gameplay, the demo will allow Xbox Live Gold subscribers to test out the full 8-player destruction-on-demand experience, while Silver subscribers will be limited to 1-on-1 split screen combat. The Outfit demo features a single map (Estate Assault) played on Strategic Victory mode. Let the chaos commence!

Well now I know what I'll be doing tonight. Thank God for Tivo. Hopefully the download won't take an hour.

This game is kinda cool once you learn what to do.
Watership @ Mar 6th 2006 2:51PM
The idea of the game is cool. However, the graphics and execution, blow.
Bloo @ Mar 6th 2006 3:16PM
Send the graphics and execution to my house (my wife has been cranky lately)

First rule of sw development: never schedule a release on Friday afternoon or over the weekend.
Those of us who were checking the XBox Live Marketplace every two hours this weekend now know why.

I thought the graphics were decent, and the excecution wasn't that bad. When playing the mode that was available, I felt like I was playing a third person BF2, with the different weapons packages and winning the various respawn points and stuff. The vehicles were sweet though. You can jump in a wheelbarrow and shoot guys while someone else pushes you around. There was also a tractor. Hahaha. Pretty Cool.
BklynKid @ Mar 6th 2006 6:22PM
Wow. It's MP only. That sucks.
But ok, I'll give it a shot. What's this? "Connection problems..." you say? Fine I suppose. How do you play? Who knows. Who cares?
10% graphics, 10% crummy music, 30% control problems and 50% lag.
100% suck.
Osiris @ Mar 6th 2006 6:38PM
Graphics are PS2 quality. The concept is great, and gameplay is pretty fun, but its all too jerky and unnatural.
UT odaVoO @ Mar 6th 2006 7:04PM
This game is really, really fun once you figure out the controls, squad commands, and deployable units. Playing with 7 other guys that know what they're doing makes for epic battles. We just had a game last 45 minutes with the battles going back and forth across the battlefield. The game was only won by some tricky flanking manuvers and turret placment.
The gameplay is outstanding, I really don't know what you guys are complaing about.
This game is my new XBLive favorite.
The sheer amount of destruction and fighting going on all at once is incredibly impressive. IMO, The people that discount this game either A) Played the demo for 5 minutes and judged the game solely on that. B) Only like 1st person shooters or C) Graphic whores.
Bloo @ Mar 6th 2006 7:24PM
They say when you post something funny you get a star. I get docked a star. I apologize that you have no sense of humor. In addition, I dock you a star for improper language mechanics and cheesy lines like "let the chaos commence"
P.S. You seriously need to learn how to use commas.

#7 The demo is only for multiplayer...it's a demo....do you want them to just give you the whole game for free?
Interesting how they divided upthe playing privelages between gold and silver subscribers.

You know it sure as hell taked a day to download. Im on a wireless connection and it has taken HOURS to download. I hope this game is worth the 3 plus hours my 360 has spent downloading it. Now as long as im awake when the thing is finished ill be ready to play. Just one question, who the hell said that the future of games is downloadable content. I mean the little 40k old school games are fine but a full game? Hell a one 1/2 gig game demo takes forever.

3hours to download?.....it took me less than 10 minutes.
Jason W @ Mar 6th 2006 9:39PM
Im only running a slow wireless set up. When i have it directly conneted at 100mps its alot faster. I have not played the game 3 times online. The first i got my azz handed to me, the 2nd i won by a few points and the third i won by over 190 points. Ok its a high tech chess game and well. i love it. Looks great on my 42inch hdtv. The idiots that said it was a ps2 game dont have hdtv. It looks great.

If the demo (which is only 440 MB, by the way) took half a day to download, I would REALLY suggest you upgrade your computer :P
And yes, the game has issues. Graphics are meh but definitely a bit better, sound is eh, so on, so forth. BUt the actual "army chess" gameplay is just freaking fantastic.
Will B @ Mar 6th 2006 10:59PM
Ahhhhhhhhh, whoops, sorry. I didn't mean computer, I meant intarweb speed. My bad.
NightOwl @ Mar 7th 2006 9:49AM
I'm suprised nobody has mentioned this, but isn't it actually 6-player not 8 as the article mentions? I believe 3v3 games are the max the Demo allows.
Anyway, try the game out for yourselves, it is a *LOT* of fun. I was fully prepared to not care for it compared to the other things coming out this month, but I'm considering getting it after playing the demo. I think the graphics are actually really good considering the massive amount of stuff going on at various times.
I like the above comparison to "Military Chess", I'd call it a "Over the shoulder perspective real-time military strategy".
KilgoreTrout XL @ Mar 7th 2006 12:37PM
Wow. I'm kinda impressed. Much more fun than I had anticipated. I definitely suck at it, but I had a pretty decent time last eveing with it.
Comments:
1. Why do I immediately drown when I touch water?
2. No inverted Y-axis option makes Jack a dull boy.
TiaMaster @ Mar 7th 2006 7:05PM
Err...there is a invert option I believe.
Anyway, I agree that the graphics are NOT next-gen. However, current-gen consoles could never have the amount of things going on at the same time that this game has. I've been playing max player games now that I've learned how to play, and I've seen so many drops happening at the same time and explosions, that I was just in awe.
