The guy's right. I mean, there aren't too many more places to go with this game.

Maybe a remake on the PS3 so that players can amass even more objects, but the rolling stuff up into a ball novelty worked fantastic as a highly original one-shot title. It was never supposed to be a big marquee series, and it starts losing its punch if it becomes a "once every 2 years" type of game.

You have no love for the game!!!!

Katamari must proceed and evolve!!!!

Seriously though, the one thing katamari really dropped the ball on (HAHAHAHAH) was a good multiplayer mode. Something much cooler could have easily been done in that area. Even simply allowing players to compete at the same time on single player modes would have been fine. Imagine just having a few mini types games, like collecting the most of some type of object, getting big enough to get some object first, etc. Then add some powerups, like temporarily allowing you to knock stuff off or steal things off the other guy, etc.

hehe, and my fun lil pipe dream. mmo katamari!!! someone randomly becomes the katamari.... everyone else becomes the humans and animals in the game. Beat up the katamari before it gets big enough to roll you up!!! yay.

Particularly because the series emphasises style and substantial gameplay over detailed graphics, I don't think it really needs a next-gen makeover.

Still woulda been nice to see a touch-screen enabled Katamari DS.

I'm with you DR. I'm really disappointed that they aren't going to make a Katamari DS. It would've worked so much better than the psp version.

Okay since namco is putting katamari to rest, can they stop making billions of crappy pac man games. The originals were great, give it a rest. I can't believe they come out with a bunch of crappy pacman games for the ds but not Katamari.

I agree that Katamari on the console can't go much farther, even in the next generation, but can you make a great portable version (the psp version is alright but the controls have much to be desired of) before you snuff the king.

Sorry but I get pissed damnit when these companies don't listen to what the fans want and just continue to make the crap they think would sell. If you look at it objectivly, most of the games out there are crap, luckily there are also a few truely amazing games.

I'm happy it is ending, because Katamari was created to show that games shouldn't be whroed out, and that developers should try something new. WLK was essentially an interactive thank you letter, and Me and My Katamari was made to play it on the go. COnsidering the concept, 3 games is pushing it.

I agree. The 3 games limit is enough. I'm about halfway through Katamari on the PSP, and other than more of the same, the only remarkable difference is that it's harder to play with no analog, and it's portable.

It is easily one of the better PSP games even forgivning the evil control scheme.

Yeah, I don't see it going anywhere further on the Playstation. It's kinda weird though: A game like that might even be better suited on the DS or Rev. I mean, as far as trying something new with the series. But of course that aint gonna happen.

the main issue here is the fan base and whether fans will continue to buy sequels.... I fraqn' love that game and I would buy 10 more versions if i could.

I just want more stuff to roll-up !!!!

WeLoveKatamari showed the potential to add twists to the core concept;
- roll-up the constellations / starts you created
- roll by time or roll by size
- new maps = new fun (campground, snow park, zoo)

damn I loved that zoo
and rolling up that ginger bread house !??! gives me goose bumps just to think about it !!!!

I want more!!

I agree that three games is enough.

I would hate to see Katamari become a "regular" series. Heck, at first I wasn't sure I liked the idea of We Love Katamari, but that turned out so well I accepted it. Me and My Katamari is OK, since it is portable, and not a true "sequel." But I think that three games is definitely enough.

As much as I love Katamari, I don't want to see it become a continuing series. I think it would lose its quirky appeal.

But seriously...what's with the weird centaur Prince?

I'm fine with the Katamari series ending. We don't want such an innovative game getting stale...but I'm disappointed that there was no DS incarnation of the game! Touch screen rolling! C'mon! You can't deny that'd be awesome.

As Much As I Love Katamari, I'm Happy That They Are Putting An End To It..

Don't Get Me Wrong, I Love The Game, But Seeing A New One Every Other Year And Such Is Just Going To Equally Or More Kill The Franchise.. It Has Happened Many Times In The Video Game Market, Critically Acclaimed Game Turns Into A Franchise Series Of Games That Progressively Get Worse Just To Get Money..

Now, I Knew Katamari Was Going To End Here All Along, I Mean, Keita Takahashi (katamari creator, mind you) Wasn't Even Involved At All In The PSP Version.. I Don't Want More Games Being Made Without The Original Creator.. Takahashi Doesn't Even Like Sequels, Games Alone, Even..

But Really, We Need More Creative Games Like Katamari Out In The Market That Will Also Become A Cult Classic..
Namco Was Inspired By Katamari's Success And Is Pulling A Nintendo By Saying They Will Make A New Game That Can Be Accessed By Anyone To Play And Have Fun..

But It Is Rather Sad, However, I Know Katamari Will Still Live On With The Fans..

I hate these lame tactics to try to boost sales of the product. Companies do this crap only to hype things up more.

Three games is about right for this gameplay style, I guess. I bought all three, and fittingly, one game from each region (American KD, European WLK, Japanese BnWnKD waiting to be picked up from the sorting office in Durham tomorrow ^_^).

Why, though, shouldn't the Katamari Damacy universe live on in another gameplay style...? From its near-Pythonesque movies to its in-game look, sound and feel, we've seen the kind of stuff Takahashi's fevered nut can come up with. Who's to say he hasn't got some plans already for where he goes next with it all?
