Question -

Since the one is named Morton Jr. does that mean that Bowser's first name is Morton. If so That must be why he is so mean. If I was teased for being named Morton all through my childhood I would grow huge and learn to breath fire too.

To continue that reasoning why would he choose to subjugate his son to the same treatment? Interesting.

Alright! Its about time Yoshi sat out. He gets his own games now, and his involvement in Sunshine hampered the adventure.

I agree with you too, Jago. I always liked the idea of Bowser's kids from 3. But who gave birth to the little monsters? Maybe Bowser fertilized a Birdo egg...

Nintendo's advertising strategy is great. It seems like any time somebody asks them a question they just say they can't comment and laugh. for example the article mentions

"Finally, when questioned about the possibility of a console-bound Mario side scroller, Tezuka replied, "The probability is not zero, but no further comment at this point." Then he just laughed."

he probably laughed because that's what nintendo tells all their employees to tell the press, just so people like us will speculate more. The way he approached this comment almost made it seem like they are planning a new mario sidescroller for revolution rightn now, maybe even one with unique rev control. i doubt that though, who knows...

I believe the names of the Koopalings all refer to performers, some more obvious than others (Lemmy, Wendy O., Iggy, Ludwig)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koopa_Kid

Wiki doesn't mention who Morton is named after, they do speculate that the "Jr" could be added just as a way to make the namesake more recognizable.

And since the only person google comes up with for "Morton Jr" is Morton Downey Jr., I think it's safe to say that's the guy. Plus, Downey was nicknamed Morton the Mouth, and in the SMB cartoon, Morton Jr. was called Big Mouth.

There's more information than I'm sure anyone wanted.

LOL IF they're gonna release the Super Mario Super Show next month (or maybe it was this month) then they might as well release Captain N too. I've already got the Zelda TV show DVD and man is it hilariously bad...LOL

I think he laughed because it seems like Nintendo can never get away from someone asking about a Mario game. They have a double-edged sword. Nintendo said they want to create new franchises, new games, but on the other hand, the demand for Mario and Zelda etc. are still there. So it's a blessing but also a curse.

Actually, all of them are named for musicians... Morton Downey Jr had a country music career in the 70's before getting his infamous talk show in the 80's (he was sort of the Rush Limbaugh of his time).

The others are named for Lemmy Killmeister (of Motorhead and Probot), Wendy O Williams (Plasmatics), Iggy Pop, Roy Orbison and Ludwig Von Beethoven. Larry, I'm not so sure about. Larry King gets guessed a lot, but I don't buy it.

Well, he may have had a music career, but people don't know him as a failed musician, they know him as a talk show host.

If you stack him against the others, a country singer with a song "Green Eyed Girl" doesn't really fit in with Wendy O. or Lemmy. I'm almost postive Nintendo chose the name because of his "trash talk" radio show, not his short-lived music career.

Given that, it might be possible that Larry King is the other Koopa kid namesake, but that's unlikely. It has to be a celebrity, possibly with a music background or some relationship to music, that fits the attitude of the other people. I don't think Larry King quite fits into that.

Any other famous Larrys?

13. Bowser must be a Mormon, with so many kids!

Posted at 4:48PM on Mar 9th 2006 by Jed Merrill
--------

Jed, that was not appropriate, even if it was a joke. As an LDS, I try to clear up the common misconceptions about us Mormons. We are not the only ones to have large families. Why don't you call Bowser a latin american, or a hispanic? We (hispanics) tend to have quite large families as well.
Also, if this statement included any sort of reference to polygamy (which to me it did), I want to remind you that Fundamentalist Mormons, which are in no way connected, related and/or part of the official Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, seem to not want to abandon such teachings. Please do not go around spreading false accusations. It really is annoying when the whole world views "Mormons" as polygamists, when in fact, there are dozens of different sects which all believe in polygamy and proclaim to be "Mormon." The official LDS church does not promote and/or support polygamy, as it is unlawful. Any such self-proclaimed "Mormon" who declares to be a polygamist is not a true "Mormon."

Now, back on subject. I sure am glad the Koopa Kids are back. They were always my favorite bosses! It's like travelling back in time... it's all coming back...

No offense intended, and that certainly was not a comment on polygamy! Most of my best friends are Mormon, including one who comes from a family of twelve kids. For those who really know, being Mormon is a very good thing, and so is having a big, values driven family. Maybe someday everyone will be one.

As for Bowser, he is a model dad, really. He's just a little backwards on his basic values, and needs to teach his koopa kids that being Italian doesn't mean you are a bad plumber or person. I figure he only kidnapped the Princess because his kids needed someone to keep them straight... What is a castle without a home sweet princess and a fire breathing koopa, after all?

exactly. true mormons believe in indisputable FACTS like Native Americans being a lost tribe of Israel. easily proven now thanks to advances in genetic science...

LMAO - This whole mormon debate reminds me of that south park episode: "DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM..."

But seriously, I have no problems with anyone's religion (except satanists). And if believing that iPods are made by alien pandas keeps you doing good things then so be it.

Anyways, back to the post.

Super Mario 3 - Great game but... Why did they take out the leaf out of the other super mario games? Yes, I loved the cape, but the leaf was so special. Also bring back the boot, frog suit, metal suit and a few more.

You hear me Nintendo? MORE!

In response to #21:

"what were the original japanese names? the same? or of japanese musicians?"

Actually, in the Japanese SMB3, the Koopalings didn't have any names. They were named by the American localization team. Oddly enough however, when SMW came out a couple of years later (also featuring the Koopalings), the Japanese developers went ahead and stuck with the American names.

In fact, the (probably same) American employees came up with the name "Bowser" just 3-4 years earlier... a name that has never been used in Japan, where he's just called "Koopa". Therefore, many speculate that "Bowser" is a musical reference too, to singer Jim "Bowzer" Bauman of the 70's band Sha Na Na (One More Saturday Night).

Whatever the case, their tradition didn't stop with Mario 3, judging by the appearance of dinosaur boss "Reznor" in SMW.

Just adding to the whole morton debate, there was also Jelly Roll Morton, who is considered by a lot of people to have created jazz music. He was a composer and a pianist and at one time even worked as a pimp.

If God couldn't change some genes to test the faith of his children then Jesus couldn't walk on water or cure the sick or make the blind see.

Whats your definition of FACT? what you see? or what is actually true?
