Play Pac-Man on an iPod MAME cabinet
The next step in the iPod's journey from being
just a digital audio player to a device that does literally everything is the iPod MAME project. The
emulator--a very much unsupported emulator for iPod linux--allows you to
play such legendary games as Pac-Man on a range of iPods. We assume that the emulator will play other MAME games (no telling how well), but since the only iPod available for us to test is a chunky 3G iPod, we can't test this theory. In the meantime, check out Scott's nano MAME cabinet pictured on the right. Scott's been working hard to fine tune the graphics for the iPod's display, as well as creating a custom MAME cabinet to play the games on.

I think this is newsworthy, but when I saw his "cabinet" I have to say it's really stupid now. WTF; the ipod sticking out the side of the cube? How uncool is that?
kudos for the emulator, but not for the cabinet design. that's just piss poor.

not newsworthy
but thankfully Joystiq seems to have gone a whole day without telling us there is 'nothing new' on the PS3.

Eh...What's the big deal? Seriously, who wants to go to the trouble of linuxing up their ipod so they can play PACMAN? I could WRITE a version of pacman in the time it takes to set up a mame emulator on my ipod, and I wouldn't risk toasting all my songs in the process.
Anyway, why must linux be ported to all systems? Why don't we work on making it useful for something other than web serving on ONE system and THEN work on porting it to everything that can plug into a wall?
