Reggie introduces (old) Metroid Prime 3 video
23
Some fine Sunday night viewing. We have a clip of the Reggie narrating a video of Metroid Prime 3 ostensibly running on some form of the Revolution hardware. The Revolution Fanboy crew is quick to remind us this isn't new material by any means: it's the same footage Satoru Iwata showed off at last year's E3. Apparently that wasn't the only venue that got to see it, and Iwata wasn't the only Nintendo bigwig who showed it off. Worthwhile viewing for those who haven't seen it... or for those of you with embarrassing gamer-crushes on Reggie. Say it again Reggie... say "make no mistake" again!
[Harmless rant™: By the way, that Revolution logo is really ugly. They could have submitted that to our (very quiet of late) lineup of possible Revolution interfaces, and we'd have called it a fake; probably even an "amateurish" fake. We know it's not a final name, we know it was only a mockup menu... we're just sayin'. As long as they get that super-sleek micro/DS Lite/Revolution hardware stank all over that logo when it's done, we'll be happier than a pair of wireless revomotes.]
[Thanks, DJ Rage; via Revolution Fanboy]

I was under the impression that the different sized "o" discs were to show that the Revolution can play both Gamecube and Revolution Game Discs, which will be different sizes.

"Why's the first 'O' larger than the second?"
I think it's supposed to symbolize the two different sizes of discs that the Rev will play: Rev / DVDs and Gamecube discs.
I agree overall though, it's not that great of a logo. I also don't like the other one that's floating around, with the funky, purple R.

It's just like the person above me said. The first "O" is larger because it resembles the Revolution disc, and the second "o" is the Gamecube disc. :)

It doesn't look that "impressive", I think it's because this was on aGameCUbe or at least not finished Rev. hardware.
They did say it would be 3X more powerful than the GC, and frankly, that's all I need.
No one will ever use 100% of the power from the PS3 and Xbox360, it simply takes too long time to code, and by that it costs way too much.

Alright, I accept your hypothesis regarding the lack of uniform-O'ness, but I don't have to like it! :)
Seriously, it's ugly. It's DS ugly. It (and the purple R) need to go bye bye, and we need some sharp design stylings from whatever monkeys Nintendo has cooped up making their sexy new hardware!

Why are you talking about the R logo, it was a fanmade logo that is all over the net, nintendo has made no offical rev logos yet, in fact the last time they showd rev, it no longer said revolution on it, hinting at the fact they are infact useinga diffrent name for it.
And as for revs power, I do remember them saying the prime clip was actually done on a modified cube kit.

Deja Vu. Did somebody post this a few days ago? Oh wait, I thought you made "revolutionfanboy" in order to not post the same articles here and there.
Oh, and it's not that you "think" the O and the o are meant to symbolize different discs, Sherlocks. It's pretty obvious that it is the meaning of it.
Anyway, thinking that "NINTENDO REVOLUTIoN" is the logo is like thinking that "PlayStation" or "PLAYSTATION" or "Xbox" are logos. *sigh*

Reason would stand that if 'Revolution' is not the final name, then that cannot be the final logo.

Well, this just gives Nintendo a chance to knock our socks off with some super cool final logo. :D
They need a logo that EVERYONE can "get". Most people, like you showed us, can look at that and not understand why they designed it that way. Most people wouldn't understand that it's showing it can play two formats. Since this is a system aimed at "everyone", including non-gamers, then I agree with you that they need something different. Something attractive for everyone. :)

It wouldn't hurt if they would call the codenamed Revolution console something simplistic and iPodish like "aNintendo".
Mom: "Hey, do you already have a Nintendo?"
Dad: "Nope, I'm gonna get it soon..."

Yeah Im not to sure about the name still being a code name. The nintedo binder that I have at work was recently updated and the section for the RevOlution was added, nothing it it but there is now a page with the Revolution logo naming on it. Which i find kind of interesting because they dont usually put things in the binder till just before they launch...

Hate to be picky but that footage of Metroid was underwhelming. It's funny to even see the whole graphics card being thrown out by Nintendo when all this time they argue that its about the games and ingenuity. I guess its a way of showing they can hold their own in visuals, but what they showed really didn't excite me at all. It was a been there, done that, seen that, kind of feeling. Really bland.

Hey bd, Revolution Fanboy was not created "in order to not post the same articles here and there," it was created to cover the Revolution. Joystiq covers everything. They can obviously cover more. Do you think we wouldn't post something big, like a new game announcement or new controller news, and vice versa?
And "PlayStation" and "Xbox" are both very much parts of their respective companies brands. They are different than Playstation or PLAYSTATION or XBox or XBOX.
Thanks for being so friendly and helpful Sherlock... *sigh*.

Even if it was fan-made, it has caught the attention of one company.
http://www.revolutionfanboy.com/2006/02/16/revolution-logo-revealed/
Not exactly an official announcement, but it's worth discussing. Plus, it's really the only fan-made logo I've seen for the Rev and I didn't like it.

If the meaning of the different size discs in the logo was obvious, no one would have brought it up. There was never any official comment about something that minor, so it is all just assumption. It's best not to assume things because there are always people that think differently and don't end up at the same conclusions.
For example, it might seem obvious to some people that the purpose of Revolution Fanboy is not to replace Joystiq's Rev coverage, but to complement it. But that view seems to have escaped you, so no one should assume it to be true unless stated by Joystiq.
Second, people are talking about the only logo that is shown. No one is simply talking about the words, we're talking about the specific image shown, the word Revolution with the two "O" replaced with discs. Logo being used in the general sense of a symbol that identifies a product or organization. If that were the final logo, it would be on the back of games like the Gamecube cubed G logo or the thin, blue PS2.

To bd:
I actually don't read any of the Joystiq branches--just this main site. I'm glad they post this stuff here. :)
It's funny how much useless criticism Joystiq receives when they're not, y'know, forcing us to read their pages. If you don't like how they do things, you'd think you'd learn how to just avoid the place altogether. :)

Something I see in this video that I didn't see at E5 is that is uses anisotropic shading on Samus' armor (aka: that brushed aluminum look)
I also see displacement mapping on the "3" logo.
Cool stuff.

OK guys hear me real quick! I'm not here to be a fanboy, or make comparisons, but I must say I'm so impressed w/nintendo right now. I really hope the US stop slowing down progress with being graphic junkies and promoting xbox/sony strageties of endless bloodbath sequels, hijack this, 1st person shoot that! I mean sony's got a big library, but how many are actually good? And many of the same kind of game does Sony have! If you want to slash play God WAr,DMC, Onimusha, if you want to blow stuff up GTA, race NFS or GT. Sneak? MGS or splinter cell all the other confeits they release until the sequels to the good originals, stay far away from. I know because WAS a big PS2 fan but got bored, until Nintendo unplugged me from the matrix w/ the DS and hopefully the REV. I'm so glad Sony WON'T have all the excusive this time around though! Why, do you think Nintendo is putting a parental lock on the REV? Yes they've been talking to Rockstar, EA, UBI and others.
Yeah GTA is good but still the only one in it's genre that is worth anything. Halo...great, but metriod prime was just as good. I got bored w/ sony all and all just not offering anything REALLY new. Then I got my DS. Buttons are still decent but what what would I do now without voice commands and touchscreen. I research the hell out of subjects of interest, and the rev is no exception. There is nothing wrong with the rev being 3x powerful as the 360. Remember a couple of things. 1) They should the 360 was the xbox 1.5 when it 1st debut last year, now look at it! 2) All that talk was coming from developers w/beta I repeat BETA development kits. Nintendo has released 3-4 kits since then that developers are power wise very impressed w/. 3) The 360 is about 3x as powerful as the xbox... FACT! 4) Don't worry 360 and REV have common graphic processors 360 has a BRoadway and the REV has a Broadway/Holloywood chipset so the graphics so it will be able to keep up with 360 and PS3. 5) Really the only reason spec wise the REV looks any weaker is because all the stuff that would support HD is been gutted out. (I'm persoanlly glad because FACT most home globally still don't HD tv's, and about time they do there will be something else out, so I preety much see HD as the REAL gimmick! HD demands too much you have to buy the tv, then a turner, and swicth to get HD sat, or cable just to take advantage $4000 big one you already spent!!! If you plan on buying a REV and still want a sharper picture, buy someting just as good as HD, but that you can just plug your REV up too get an brillant picture w/ no extra hassle, DLP, SEDTV, EDTV, T(tau),Wega, hell maybe even a good Trinitron). 6). Not having HD maybe a visual benefit
There's a reason Sony and Microsoft even adopted new DVD formats HD-DVD and Blu-ray, because HD info takes up so much room on the disc very little room is left for penpoint like details. When a HD game is being made it's actually 4x smaller then the screen you see it on in it's origianl format. So developers really cram to put as many fine details in the games as they can, but not to pass a certain polygon count, pixel count cause when it's formatted to disc in full frame size it'll be too large for the disc...following me? Since Rev doesn't not support HD they can develop the game on full-sized framed screens and and as many detials as they want because they don't have HD info hogging up disc space poly and pixel counts...get it!
http://revolution.ign.com/articles/690/690730p1.html.
The above article proves power wise develepors have no power worries porting and making games for the REV.
Plus in case you have heard there are already works in place for RAM expands for DS and REV as for as graphics are concerned Nintendo's got the visuals covered. The rest of the World is ready for a Revolution...DS is doing a fine job of getting people to think outside the box. I just hope the crash'em smash'em American gamer doesn't stop us from having truley unparrelled gameplay and experiences, that no other system will offer. Hell, this is truley history the first time a home console will have better and deeper control than the old keyboard and mouse. With a low low price tag, and every major developer throwing support behind REVOLUTION. The only question is will the US gamer stop being so stereo type and someting that will change gaming for the better.

I actually saw that logo in supposed picture of an actual Revolution hooked up to a TV. I called it fake just because the logo was so dumb. Then someone pointed told me the logo was actually officially from Nintendo. I was amazed. That logo is straight out of the mid-90's, when CD's as game media was still sort of new. Then again, I guess CD's are still pretty new to Nintendo, since the Gamecube was the first Nintendo console to actually use optical discs.
Anyway, yeah, that logo has got to go.
