Please please please no. Katamari becoming a franchise would RUIN IT. How many games can you make out of a simple gameplay element- rolling?

And before anyone counters that with a platformer, look at Mario Bros. 1 and 3. Now compare that to Katamari Damacy and Me and My Katamari.

If anything, it'll be Katamari re-releases on other consoles. I don't see Namco going against the series creator to make new games without him, nor do I see him going back on his past statements and making another game.

Someone send the series creator a free DS Lite to play around with so he may get excited to bring it to the system.

*Joystiq, I'm looking at you.*
[Think of the PR possibilities]

We want Katamari DS.

Wasn't there a "rumor" announced at E3 2005 that there might be one for the DS?

I mean despite Pac N' Roll being boring, the concept of pushing PacMan around worked pretty well.

#2, obo: From what I've heard...

"I don't see Namco going against the series creator to make new games without him"

-This is actually how the second game was started.

"nor do I see him going back on his past statements and making another game."

-Well, he eventually went back to try to prevent Namco from ruining the second game.

I'm against Katamari Damacy becoming a huge franchise as well (you don't want rolling to get stale!), BUT...

I'm willing to have just one more Katamari Damacy game...ON THE DS!

Touch screen rolling FTW!

lame. i liked the original katamari damacy and all (never beat it, but i own it), but am i the only one who thinks that it's WAY overrated?

i mean, the game is good, novel novel fun. it really is. but it's one of those "got a few minutes to kill? wanna see something unique and trippy?" sort of games. definately not something that should have sequels, and CERTAINLY not franchise material.

i too think that a DS version is merited, but i still hold the opinion that even the "We Love Katamari" sequel was overkill enough as far as console versions are concerned.

watch for the live-action film, coming next spring, directed by Uwe Boll!

I hope to christ not.

I'm a Katamari fan-boy (I rebought the PS2 just to play it), but the PSP version sucks plain and simple. Please leave it alone.

DS version might work, using the touch pad to control the ball ... but ONLY if the touch pad is used. Using the buttons doesn't work and my hands get cramped after playing for only 5 minutes on the PSP (not to mention how much more touchy the physics are in Me and My Katamari).

Just my 0.02

Katamary for the DS will NOT happen. The DS is not powerful enough. Plain and Simple. Stop having Fanboy dreams. Katamary isn't just about rolling around a ball, its the complexity of the world it rolls around in. Do you really think the DS could handle all that mapping, scrolling and (insert more technical words)? Come on people, be realistic!

@ Tetsuwan:

Have you seen the Katamari Damacy games? You do realize how simple and basic that engine is right?

You can go back to PSPfanboy now...thx...

A Katamari on the Touch Screen? I'd hope for such...

As for technical issues? A KD DS would have less-detailed models and textures... And there's a chance many objects would be replaced with 2D sprites...
But, I still think the DS could pull off a fully-functional Katamari.

Key word: THINK. I really don't know what the extent of the DS's power is, but developers are always pushing a system beyond what it was meant to do (example: Nintendo said the GBA couldn't do 3D polygons... but it has).

Though... a Katamari Revolution would also be very nice. I can imagine how it'd work: The game is bundled with a ball-shaped shell the Revolution controller plugs into (maybe it is even brightly colored and shaped like a katamari). And in order to play, you actually roll that in the air! Now, THAT would be awesome!

A Katamari on GameCube, Xbox, or Xbox 360 simply wouldn't be any better than the ones on PS2. But on the DS and Revolution, with their unique control schemes, could make a great katamari.

But if it was Ours, it'd be greater.

Like I said...have you SEEN the engine for the Katamari games? The models are VERY simple and the textures are very minimal.

It's completely doable on the DS.
