Halo 3 no more -- meet Forerunner

Forerunner might end up being a huge April Fool's joke, but a Halo MMO would make a whole lot of sense. Halo Online would be the ace in Microsoft's sleeve and could potentially be as big if not bigger than World of Warcraft. It would probably start Xbox 360 exclusive, but would probably show up on the PC when Vista arrives. A billion dollars of subscription revenue is not something Microsoft can walk away from. my stance on this is that is fake. why would bungie announce a game through a magazine? halo is huge, wouldn't they annouce it at a expo or a confrence? it doesn't make sence. (at least to me it doesn't) You can tell that the next halo would reveal something big. why make a prequel and spoil the huge surprise for the last game? if anything, make the fourth game the prequel so it elaborates on what you learned in the 3rd. if this IS true i will be rather pissed. because

A)it blew the surprise of 3

B)i have to wait 2 1/2 years to find out what happend to MC, the arbitor, and everything within three radiai of the galactic core.

Halo 3, that over-fathomed enigma in the not so distant future. Sure, I look forward to it and completing the history, but until then, there are other things to consider. The drawback with threads like these is that we wind up overhyping the game ourselves, and then feel only partially fulfilled when we actually do get the final product (a la Matrix 2,3, Halo 2, etc.).

Metroid's theme has remained constant since the original game, since you likened Halo to Marathon. Not like the whole comparison matters since they're still so different.

Anyways I imagine it'd be very hard to not refer to anything ancient anymore even without conciously reading about them. Since practically everything everyone has lived on and by that means that someone had to make it and before that had to learn how to make it. :P

Maybe the only way to come up with new things is to come up with a new word for it. :P

MetaHuman, just because it uses the name Metroid, doesnt make it originally having that kind of story by association. They didnt add that story to Metroid until Hunters.

It is like saying, well because it has the name Metroid, even though the original didnt use that story, and we decided to add that story in Hunters, even though it is after Halo AND Marathon, it still belongs to Metroid, cause Hunters comes from Metroid.

So how exactly do I fit into this category? I'm just as "open" to any gaming product as the next guy. The only points I made in the recent Sony news was that Ken's latest "4D" statements shouldn't be taken seriously or read into for obvious reasons. I'll admit I stick up for the 360 more than any other console, but that doesn't make me any more of a "retard" or a [edited by me for inappropriateness] than you for your generally pro-Sony position.

I didn't reply to each and every point you made in your first comment simply because they weren't arguable statements. The only other point you made that is valid is about the backwards compatibility. No, the 360 doesn't do it very well. I don't think anyone would argue with you about that. The rest of your points are simply personal interpretation, which will vary widely from one person to the next and could be applied just as easily to the PS3. Therefore I don't feel very inclined to take the time to debate arguments which are not really factual enough to warrant a debate. I'm also quite sick of your language and it pains me to even read through your hate filled comments chock full of obscenities and insults. If you'd like to go point-for-point on a topic, I'm all for that, but I'm less inclined to get involved if the poster simply hurls a bunch of personal attacks and 6th grade insults to make their case, which is what you usually resort to.

On a lighter note, I'm glad you've taken a liking to Fight Night, it's one of my favorites as well. I've been a fan of the series since the original and am very happy to see that Round 3 came to the 360 instead of being a PS3 exclusive as it was touted last year at E3. Otherwise I wouldn't get to play it on a next-gen system for another 6-12 months. I hope the 360 launch goes smoothly in Australia for you.

My other points quite simply can't be argued as it is blatently obvious that even fight night (best graphics in any game to date, for mine) is still not like watching a movie, let alone a hd movie. So this statement is just as un-validated & untrue as sony's PS2 toy story graphics. This is my point all along, if you've played games as long as I have, you have apretty good perception of reality. That perception does not allow me to think that we would go from PS1 graphics straight to toy story graphics. Even if a machine had the power to do that, developers have not the skills to implement them in a decently playable game yet.

You also seemed to think I was singling you out for all the negativity filled posts that I was mentioning is PS3 bloggs. Not the case buddy. Just a build up of you's, & you were silly enough to bite when I decided to see what happens when somebody does the same in a 360 blogg. I never actually bashed MS in anyway, I merely stated facts from their own marketing brochure & problems that 360 owners are complaining about. You may have a 360, it may have no problems, for that I really am glad... But you MS people point the finger at PS2 as if every second console was faulty, when the xbox 1 was about the same (thomson drive anyone) considering the lesser all round sales numbers. (100 million as opposed to 22million). 360 is no less prone to a certain percenatge of failure rates, but I'm sure that is a minority & has already been addressed. Fact is, I wasn't even gonna get a 360, as I've never really liked any of MS's controllers, but then I got my grubby mits on the 360 controller....... 1st part of the sale done...I put a deposit on one under the previso that I'd switch it onto PS3 if I could find no other reason to buy one.... Then I played fight night & that was basically all she wrote (it does look very nice), triple this up with PS3 november 8 mth wait & my money was in Bill's bank account (that bastard, he's already got enough of mine & everyone's else's with windows).

I've also never mentioned how infinately more powerful a piece of hardware is to another.....as I truly see games as the main factor. Sony's PS3 could be 10times as powerful as 360 (yes I know, but stick with me), but it won't mean a hoot if they don't have solid games that back it up & expoit that power, this is why xbox did not do as well as it could against PS2's older technology. After reading that sony has outlawed any games not on blu ray, then I can see MS getting more games if sony charge too much for royalties. Could scare off all the best 3rd parties, like the snes to N64 debacle. On the other hand it may stamp out piracy to a large degree & developers may like that not cutting into profit margins. At this point, it's hard to say... So lets not hammer it, ken & his 4d, until we have the console to judge on store shelves. If it's a crap console, I swear I won't treat it like an OJ simpson jurer at his trial.

Finally we agree on something. As you stated, there were a TON of Sony adherents going on and on about how Ken's "4D" statement MEANT something. That was why I posted in the forums, because I found it ridiculous that people would give such a statement credibility.

I'm not a Sony hater. I may prefer MS over Sony for my own reasons, but it's the Sony FANS that drive me crazy. In general, Sony has the largest "casual gamer" crowd, which tend to know little about the gaming industry and know even less about the technology that drives it. So in the recent days where Sony news was all over, this site saw Sony fans come out of the woodwork and post ludicrous rhetoric about the superiority of the PS3. So I felt the urge to throw a dash of reality and logic in the mix.

Fair enough. My problems with the PS3 at this point are as follows:

1. The claim that it can produce a dual 1080p output. The PS3 vs 360 anandtech article that came out last year after E3 comparing the spec sheets shot that possibility down and recent dev rumors claim that the PS3 can't even handle a SINGLE 1080p output without severe frame rate issues.
2. The claim by many fanboys that the PS3 will be a desktop PC replacement and that they will sell to everyone because they aren't an expensive console, they are a "cheap computer". Just because a device can run a version on Linux does not make it a home PC. Tons of electronic devices have OS's in them that aren't PC's. This claim is just silly. Even if the Cell chip could handle x86 based PC code, the PS3 is made by a company that has banned open source material on every single device they've ever made.
3. The claim that the PS3 will be far superior to the 360. I agree that most likely it will have better graphics, but not a single game has been shown that impresses me yet. MGS admittedly was good looking, but Hideo already stated that it could run on the 360 just fine. Last year at E3, the best in game footage was Fight Nights, which has come to the 360 reportedly looking just as good as the PS3 version. So while I can understand that the PS3 will be coming out a year later than the 360 may make it seem superior hardware wise, it won't be as big a difference as people claim. The Xbox came out a year after the PS2, and though it did have better looking games, it was hardly something to write home about nor a factor that would've justified a $100+ price difference between the two consoles. So if the PS3 comes out at a $500 or more price tag, it better make the 360 look like Childs play in order to woo me over (along with having quality *not quantity* games). As of right now, Sony hasn't shown me a single game that I'm really looking forward to. Some have been rumored, but I haven't seen anything.

I have no idea how long you've been gaming, but I'm 23 and have played since the Atari days. Other than Atari systems I've played NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, Playstation, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, a teeny bit of GameCube, and now the 360 as well as PC gaming. I've never been a handheld guy, so no Gamegear, Gameboy or PSP games have ever appealed to me. So if I am a fanboy, it is not because of a lack of giving other systems a fair chance.

I'm not looking for rebuttals to any of these points, I'm simply sharing them with you to justify my previous posts since you asked. Hope that clears some things up. Take care.

All your above mentioned points are baseless, internet rumours. Why get bugged over them when you could be enjoying your 360. The one that strikes me as the funniest is how you say that your a hardcore gamer & others are mainstreamers, but then further down you mention how a $100 price difference will sway you away from PS3. Sparty, I am a pensioner gamer (31), I've had the systems you mentioned & more, hell I've still got a MB Vectrex (had it's own monitor built in that required screens ovelays to get color). Let me say that $100 is nothing considering I am getting a out of the box Blu Ray Player, Game Console, & possibly a 60gig Hard Drive.

If 360 offered all this, are you telling me your a hardcore gamers, but not hardcore enough to justify $100 (2 games), to get something you thought took even more advantage of the technology you have, or one day may have in your loungeroom.

Now just to clear all that up as well. If you beleive some of the crap on this site, there was a yen price floating around (can't remember which blogg) that convereted to $428.30 or some ridiculous un-rounded number like that. So if this number is to be believed & sony's past as well, then I would assume $399 as the US launch price. Now maybe 360 will have gone down to $320-$350 by then.... But it doesn't really help. Like nintendo displayed with cube, the price does not effect initial console buyers.

It won't be this casual fanbase of sony's that fork out the big dollars for the PS3 when launched. It will be the exact same type of gamers that 360 is attacting right now......people who just love games.

I'm not a techno geek, I don't & don't want to understand what drives it. I just want to know what games I will be driving on it. I'm a gamer, I play games, I'm not a psuedo try hard ken kutaragi/j'allard that claims to know the in's & outs of every electronic product available. I just want to game. If I could I would simply eat, shit, sleep (sometimes & GAME. Unfortunately I have to work to support my habit.

8 months before xbox came out, what were tyou looking forward to on that, that you knew would be worth the wait?

I heard the lighting at that stage was noticably better on 360 & the character details were better on the PS3. Apart from that pretty equal. That was from people who saw both at the show.

I do not & will not play games on pc. I've said it all along, people who prefer xbox consoles are hybrid pc/console gamers. Thats fair enough & not meant as an insult. It's simply true, thats why a lot of MS console titles are pc handemedowns or in the same genres as most pc games. As a staunch console gamer I prefer things made to suit consoles (fight night for example). Many of sony's own inhouse games are made with this in mind & they have some rare gems that capture the same essence, spirit & love of gaming that some of nintendo's do. For example some of my favourite games this gen were, shadow of the collossus, Ico, ghosthunter, Primal, Mark of Kri, god of war, these games were mostly something special & that I hadn,t seen before.

If MS could get some developers to come up with (out of the box) games like this, then it would only better their chances of domination. I already love the new controller & fight night, but what is beyond that for me.... I can only take so many FPS's, racers, Fihgters, & so on. Don't get me wrong as I love the best of these genres Tekken, burnout, timesplitters etc, but every so often they need a little something special to allow people who want that niche, gameplay splattered title to take the monotiny away.

I don't care if it is a hoax or not. I'm quite happy hoping that the forerunners managed to somehow survive they're use of the Halo system. They were the ones who built it. Perhaps they managed to survive it? and now they want it back? I don't know, but they would be an awesome race to fight, either against them or along-side them.
And about the whole overheating thing going on. Ofcourse the xbox 360 will overheat. My friends computer is approx. 5 or 6 times larger than a 360, and it runs extremely high, with 8 fans running constantly. The 360 is bound to overheat, and was said to have done frequently in the Splinter Cell 4 review in the official australian xbox magazine. These consoles are running as powerful as modern computers, and in a tiny little case. Why are towers being made larger? So that air can circulate easier. The best way to avoid the overheating of a console is to buy a water cooling system and attatch it yourself. So get over it.

Whoever thinks this thing is fake, is an idiot. This is totally real. The reason the guy from Bungie denied it is because he deosn't want anyone to know about this. Neither Microsoft or Bungie have released a statement regardeing this article from Game Informer.

Play the other halo games, read the books, pay attention to dialogue and you will realize that the forerunners have all been part of bungie's master storyline plan since halo 1. Ah... i feel better. Anyway, i believe this article is true, as microsoft would NOT LET bungie quit working on this series, because it got them too much money! Added to that, the ending of halo 2 is an extreme cliff hanger, and it would be a financially idiotic decision to "hold off" on the creation of the next halo installment. Any idiot who knows just a little bit of economics and common sense can see that the best course of action would be to immediately begin production on the next halo installment in order to get it out and making money ASAP.

The statement about the price of the PS3 converting from yen to 423 in a blog somewhere is BS. Sure this may exist somewhere around here on an internet blog, but it has been CONFIRMED on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS and FROM MUTLIPLE SOURCES that the PS3 will be in the $500 area.

The statement about the games I was looking forward to 8 months before the 360 came out: TES 4: Oblivion, Perfect Dark Zero, the next Ghost Recon, and, although as by the nature of this thread it is still speculation, Halo 3--eventually. I wholly agree with Spart about sony issuing games with the concept of "quantity over quality." I have a PS2, and I had a PS1, i have a major frackload of games for both of them, but very, VERY few are actually even worth playing anymore. Granted, there are a few rare gems, but personally i believe that it is because of a fluke in the developers that mass produce these sony games.

As for your list of "great" games coming out for PS3, first of all, if you include tekken in the list, which i will agree on as a great game, you cant include soul calliber, considering SC sucks ultra donkey balls compared to tekken. Second, devil may cry? dont make me laugh. That series should've stopped at the first one. RE5? Sure the resident evil games are fun, but after.. what.. seven? maybe more... releases of the same franchise, it gets more than a little worn out. The storylines are beginning to severely suffer because the developers continue to beat this franchise with a hose trying to milk every dollar out of it. Finally... Ico? HAHAHAHAHHA!!!! no comment.
