Browser-based 3D FPS game

Joystiq reader Ryan stumbled upon a multi-player browser-based first-person shooter (that's a mouthful) called Phosphor. The game, developed by Rasterwerks, is in beta so it's not without it's problems. It locked up our mouse in Firefox when playing, but the overall initial experience was rather smooth and impressive. Check it out!
Note: this baby takes more load time than a PSP and you'll need to have Shockwave 10.1 to run it.
[Thanks, Ryan]

game textures look almost identicle to Halo's. Just look at the grass, water, walls, everything. lol. But still, this game looks to have potential, just because its online. Imagine the possibilities with having internet on your handheld gaming device and games like this. There would no longer be a need for UMDs and Cartridges.

In the case of PSP you would still need Flash :-)
I bet Sony will finally come out with Flashpalyer for PSP..........compatible with Flash 9.0 :-))

colin @ Mar 17th 2006 7:36AM

I played it for a bit and it's not bad. I only ran into a couple of problems. The only browser based fps I've have been crap, until now.

I managed to find my way out of the level, by falling into some abyss with no way out. So, its a bit buggy, but I could see myself having fun with this game for its multiplayer capabilities. The visuals are not bad, but nowhere near identical to halo. Has anyone successfully entered a multiplayer game?

As Vader once said..."Most impressive."

Have strong potential. Imagine an MMOFPS with this.

I got into a MP game, in the settings you have to set your network mode from "none" to "client". I didn't see that pointed out anywhere, but I only glanced at the help for the game.
Guibock @ Mar 17th 2006 1:53PM
It works perfectly on Mac OS X, either Safari or Firefox. Just go in the settings and choose OpenGL instead of "DirectXcrap" and boom !
I've tried a LAN game between two Macs : just fine and fun !
Read the instructions in the page below the game before complaining
