Jeux France reported that Nintendo Power reported that Mario DS will have 80 levels. They just worded it badly, internet journalism - what do you expect?

If you click the Read link, you'll see that Jeux-France posted scans from Nintendo Power. Therefore, Nintendo Power is the source of the news that the game has 80 levels. Joystiq is acknowlegding the original source (Nintendo Power) and the site on which they saw it (Jeux-France).
Anyways, I think 80 levels is pretty consistent with other 2D Mario games like SMB 3 and SMW, although I haven't actually counted.
Lots of pics with Big Mario, so I guess that's gonna play a pretty big role as a powerup. I wonder if they'll have an inventory system set up like SMB3.
Plus the multiplayer info that came out sounds fun. The SM64 DS minigames lose their appeal after a single play through. Hopefully competative play will help with that.
Can't wait till May.

I think if I pick this one up they'd be a recurring play for me too, I mostly use my DS for short bursts of gaming on buses and similar and I seem to remember that this mario is only going to save from world to world not level to level so something that I can play in a shorter time period might be attractive.

By "next May" they do mean May 2006, don't they? Metroid Prime Hunters and a pile of crappy XBOX 360 games can only pass the time for so long.

Where did you get a copy of SMW with 130 levels? Even if count all the exits as "levels", there are only 96.
Kids these days...

I don't see a 50 in any of the images and actually, I don't see an 80 either. Which picture are you looking at? Regardless, I think it's fair to assume the people that actually have the magazine can tell the differenece between 50 and 80.
#8 Doc,
Yeah, there are a couple of minigames I enjoy, such as the bob-omb corralling one, but I haven't touched most of them after I unlocked them. Still, 2 player competition might make some more interesting.

Don't believe everything you read from a scanned image from another countries website.
That's my life motto.

#18, what did you get your PSP that made you never look back at a DS? I've walked into eB games 6 times with the money to get a PSP, mem stick and a couple games and just couldn't bring myself to do it. Why are the PSP games 49.99? Why is RockStar re-releasing a 39.99 GTA: Liberty City Stories on PS2 for 49.99? Without a consistent focus on gaming I can't do it. If Sony sold a core PSP for 149 and lowered the games to 34.99 to 39.99 then I think I could make the stretch.

was pretty much unplayable. The computer took rediculous amounts of time to calculate it's move, and it was never a good or
smart shot... Hopefully that'll be fixed with the newer console.

holyparsnip-You want proof, Enjoy
Here's a link to a pic of the new Nitendo Power that clearly says 80 Levels. It's the first Picture in the photo album.

A better title like what? It's a Super Mario Bros. game and it's new. I've got no complaints.
