Fanboy nerd test
Need substantiated proof of your
fanboyism? Not sure where your loyalties lie? Then head on over to NerdTests.com for a fanboy profile. From the survey
site: "Basically, take this 25 question test to see if you are a Fanboy of any of three major game companies. If
you manage to score low on all three, or high in all three, or at least two of them, you are not a fanboy."A Digg commenter may have put it best by saying: "Umm... if you have to take a test to figure it out, then you're not a fanboy." Good point.

The end result sounds like a typical forum troll... blindly follow, what?

OMG..amazing it proves im a msft fanboy ..as if i didnt know it!!!!
TheCassidy @ Mar 21st 2006 8:34AM
I took the test a while ago when it popped up on the 360 Forums. Don't waste your time - it's amateurish, the questions are skewed, and the results won't tell you anything you didn't already know.
Remember - in the ten minutes it took you to take this "test" you could have found the cure for cancer...or something.

Holy hell. A mildly challenged 9 year old must have made this test... and THIS is on Joystiq? You can't even say it's a slow news day, it's only 9 AM!

What!? Lies. I love the 360's controller, and LIVE. Oh, and who could not love Moore's speech on next gen gaming? I love Microsoft's XBOX/360.

Well at least the next time someone calls me a fanboy, I can at least throw out my test results:
51% Nintendo
38% Sony
34% Microsoft
You are a gamer, since you like all the systems, but Nintendo is your weapon of choice. But you don't show disdain for any system.
It won't stop people from claiming I am one if I have criticism for one of the major players, but at least I'll feel that their rant is unwarranted.

The test told me nothing that I didn't already know.
But one thing I noticed - whoever wrote the test dislikes the Xbox more than I do. Even the mild anti-Xbox statements seemed to go much further than the anti-PS3 or anti-Rev statements.
And for the record, I just don't like the Xbox because I'm not fond of its exclusive games.
Thomas Crymes @ Mar 21st 2006 11:06AM
Best...picture...ever.
I'd like to see a follow-up "where are they now" picture of this guy. If I had to caption the picture it would be:

Pretty accurate I guess. I'm more ambivalent re: Sony. Playstation 1&2 graphics have always been the worst amongst the consoles and piss-poor control/camera setups seem pretty prevalent in most of their games. Plus it seems like every blockhead and his brother is into Playstation and I like to avoid jumping on bandwagons. I also resent the PS2 for dragging every multi-platform game of the past generation down to such a hideous lowest common denominator. If PS3 proves to be a decent next-gen system I may entertain buying one though.
I hate Microsoft as a company in general, although Xbox had the best graphics, best online and some of the best games of the last generation. They tend to pander too much to their sweet-spot demographic though --- too much mindless destruction and not enough adventure/exploration on their systems. I also went through 4 Xbox (1st gen) systems due to dead DVD drives. Quality doesn't seen to have improved much this gen with my launch unit 360 up and dying 3 days in. 360 is a pretty slick system though (great UI, great controllers, lots of power), even if it has been gathering dust waiting for Oblivion and GRAW. My biggest complaint (beyond zero organization in Marketplace) is that it's just too damned loud.
I'm pretty neutral on Nintendo as a hardware company (memory cards blow, so do this generation's controllers), but I'm also a huge fan of some of their properties (esp. Zelda - as long as they keep making Zelda games I'll keep buying Nintendo systems). They do seem to be the bravest when it comes to innovative gameplay concepts, though. Yeah, there are a lot of family/kiddie games on their systems, but they're generally so polished and just plain fun that I prefer to see them as 'everyone' games - it's like Nintendo are like the Pixar of the games industry (and anybody who doesn't dig a good Pixar film needs his head examined).
knight37 @ Mar 21st 2006 1:42PM
This test sucks. I rated the test a 1 out of 5 because 0 wasn't an option. This test called me a Nintendo fanboy, even though I own all the console systems. Why? I suppose it's because it asked me which GAME company I thought was the best, and I answered Nintendo, because they are the best GAME company. For Sony and Microsoft gaming is just a sideline business, and both Sony and Microsoft do EVIL THINGS in their non-gaming business practices. Root kit anyone? Abusing monopoly anyone? And then it asked which company made the best first party games, and while Microsoft as a few good ones, and Sony has a few more, only Nintendo-haters can't see that Nintendo has far more, awesome first party games. So fuck this test, it's stupid. I do not have allegiance to any company, I will buy from whoever has good games, period. If there are enough exclusive games on your system that I want to play, I buy the hardware. Duh.
knight37 @ Mar 21st 2006 1:45PM
And another reason this test sucks is because it completely ignores PC gaming.

As far as consoles go that's pretty true. Well, anything, I'm no fan of Sony in any form. But I genuinely feel the PS/PS2 had a terrible controller and mostly dull games. A huge part of that comes from me only really caring about console games if they're multiplayer, and Sony mostly neglecting that.
Of course, I needed a PS2 for Katamari and Shadows of the Colussus. Such good games.
Thomas Crymes @ Mar 21st 2006 2:14PM
It ignored PC gaming because PC Gaming is but a drop in the ocean compared to the popularity of consoles. You need to look no further than MS not caring if Halo, its most precious and exclusive property, made it to PC. 200,000 of a PC Game sold is a reasonable success. 200,000 of a console game sold is an overwhelming failure. The numbers don't lie.
If the people with the money don't see it as a threat, it isn't a threat. And that's not to say the PC doesn't have the best games. It's just a matter of getting people excited about gaming from a computer desk in an office as opposed to a living room with a big TV (yes I know there are exactly 13 people who play their PCs in their living room, but they are far from the norm).

I like the "when will you die" test better.
Babylonian @ Mar 21st 2006 4:42PM
Sorry, but this test is awful. For SNES, there's a "I was too young/wasn't born, but I wouldn't buy a Nintendo Product" and no "too young/wasn't born, but would've bought", even though there is a similar option for the NES. Also, for next-gen, it gives "PS3 and 360" and "Rev and PS3", but strangely no "Rev and 360" option.
Also, there's a "Which handheld systesm [sic] do you plan to buy?" and there's no option for "I already have them". Instead of saying that Microsoft would put a handheld out, it says "Bill Gates" repeatedly.
There was seriously no effort put into this. =/

You're you're? This thing just oozes quality.
And further fanboyism on the testmaker's part: one of the answers was "Not buying 360, I have a brain, realize it's just an un-upgradeable PC, buying a Rev".
This is the worst article I've ever seen on Joystiq. It makes me sad, because I love you guys.

The test results were true for me (I was 50% everything except for 56% Nintendo), but the test questions were absolutely horrible. It really isn't worth anyone's time.
