No, um, Leto, you don't get it. It's called supply contstaint. Maybe you haven't taken any introductory economics, but the Xbox 360 HASN'T BEEN THERE FOR PEOPLE TO BUY. The PS2 has, at rock bottom prices. If there were unlimited 360s on store shelves, it WOULD be outselling the PS2. Think about it for one second (that may be too much to ask). Every Xbox 360 available at retail sells immediately. They couldn't make enough to meet demand. That's why the PS2 has been outselling. Basic, simple concept...

Kinda funny how I keep hearing that there are no Xbox 360s to be found. Because where I live they have been in the Best Buy and Circuit City stores in good supply for about 2 months now. Anybody that wanted one can get one and I live in the US, Georgia in fact. They were sold out for a short time when they first came out. I guess that with all the problems with the 360 and the lack of games plus the price kinda put people off.

"The fact that the PS2 continues to outsell the Xbox 360 even though the PS2 will be 6 years old later this year, is a strong indication of how successful the Playstation 3 will be"

I still heartily disagree with this logic.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ps2, xbox and gamecube were all individually outselling the 360 right now and I would also bet that the ps2, xbox and gamecube are also selling in larger quantities than they did relative to their own respective first six months.

The factors for this are both simple and straight forward. The consoles are inexpensive, the game libraries are extensive and well rounded with AAA titles in every genre often at the $20 price point or less if you buy previously played, there is abundant, quality options in the accessories market and community is common and widespread.

In short, you are getting the absolute best bang for your gaming buck.

Now, let me tell you that the gamers that are only now buying a ps2 in general will not be buying a 360, ps3 or rev anytime soon because launch consoles are the polar opposite of 'bang for buck'. These people will be shopping for a 360, ps3 or rev four or five years from now and I'd wager that 'bang for buck' shoppers VASTLY outnumber early adopters.

That was my original point.

Now, to address your point. The market dominance of the ps2 does not directly and immediately imply the market dominance of the ps3. It is a factor not a fact. If it was a fact then we wouldn't be having this discussion because Nintendo and Sega would still reign supreme, Sony would have long ago dropped out of the race in failure and Microsoft wouldn't have ever entered. I am not saying the 360 will or will not supercede the ps3 nor am I factoring out the rev. I am saying it's a new round and time will tell.

"maybe the reason that Fight Night Round 3 for the 360 out sold the PS2 version is that the 360 owners purchased it to add to their game collection since there isn't too many games out for it right now. Where as the people that bought a PS2 have a lot of choices for games including some great budget titles."

I definitely concede that the scarcity of titles available for the 360 is contibuting to the sales of the title and that choice is a large factor for the ps2. However, FNR3 is still a AAA title for the ps2 and with a 100M install base, a 2% adoption rate would equate to about 70% of all 360 owners so the fact that the 360 version outsold the ps2 version is still a significant point. The fact that a 360 title even made the top 5 let alone 2 titles is actually kind of amazing.

Today i called 2 targets 2 best buys and 4 gamestops/eb games and all of them immediately said "No" when they heard the word "xbo.." slither out of my mouth. The gamestops all said "not until April". What a friggin' joke.

Mrjoneses, perhaps if there were actually adequate supply, the Xbox 360 sales figures wouldn't rise significanty. Seriously, what games are there to make people go out to buy a 360? Time will tell who is right.

I live in Chicago and was planning on buying the XBOX 360 because I HAVE to play Elder Scrolls IV. I'm a huge fan of the series since Daggerfall. I thought that the 360 version might be a little better visually since I only have mid-grade PC with a basic graphics card.

I tried two Best Buy's, a Circuit City and a GameStop and none of them thought they'd be getting any new machines until about April. I doubt that I can wait that long so Microsoft may have just snafu'd themselves out of a sale for quite a while. I'll probably wind up buying the PC version and with the PS3 and Rev coming out later this year, it's hard to justify the purchase of a 360 now.

Aaaah, so they finally acknowledge the shortage?! With all the advertising for a product you COULDN'T BUY you would think they fooled themselves into thinking there was never a shortage.

Too little, too late, Microsoft.

I'm sorry, but people are already waiting for PS3 and Revolution before they make a decision.
And then again, it's all about the games.

Like people in the first couple of posts said: all X360 has going on right now are PC ports of FPS's and sport/driving games. Still a very American console with rather plain iterations of old games and PC ports that actually run better on PC.

I don't know if it's just me but I'm SOOOooo done with FPS about WWII or futuristic soldiers of some sort.

Wake me up when the next generation of games gets here. And I think Nintendo may have the alarm clock with Revolution.

@ Anonymous Rep:

"Hardcore? It's an RPG - and a damn fine one, too."

*YAWN* You keep thinking that but (me personaly) I am a bit tired of the same old bland westernised medieval/orcs/elves RPG theme. I'll tkae some creativity and imagination in my RPGS thank you very much.

I'll believe it when I see it. The 360 shortage will be over when ANY gamer ANYWHERE in the US is able to walk into a store, and find it.

When I go to the stores by me, I still can't find a 360. Way to go, M$.
