From an external perspective, many months back a person (outside Sony) make a foam mockup of the boomerang controller and tried it out, and it was impossible to hold (info in the internets somewhere). It was difficult to reach the buttons. So there's no chance it might have been the most comfortable controller to hold ever.

From an internal perspective, as was mentioned before (and people recoiled in horror), the PS3 design, including controller was always just a mockup meant to be visually pleasing. I'll be surprised if the PS3 unit arrives in the same form we see it under glass.

yeah, and while we're on any particular company having a "me too" attitude, why don't we mention Microsoft's recent announcement that they will be entering the handheld market. OH NO.. THAT'S NOT A
'ME TOO' ATTITUDE THOUGH CUZ, UUUHHH... CUZ UHH.. IT'S MICROSOFT.. AND SONY'S GAY. FTW.

so called "me too" attitudes are what has kept the industry advancing past the NES or the Atari 2600, guys.. deal with it.. every company has taken and built off something that another company has done.

take the wireless Xbox 360 controllers, for example. Nintendo was the first company to do that first party. now it's expected to be the norm for the coming gen. do you honestly expect Sony and Microsoft to sit back and keep their controllers wired because Nintendo did it first, and it would be "ripping off their idea"? no. you don't. so shut up about everything else. there's no point in putting the warpaint on proudly displaying your blind fanboyism just because Sony has announced that the design of the PS3 CONCEPT controller is not finalized.

chill.

R, the 360 controllers DO have rumble functions. Sony's quadshock or whatever they make will too (that's what the "shock" means, the unbalanced motors are in the controller handles). Battery technology and power consumption technology has become much better, so they can get away with it. Even the DS has a rumble pack it can use.

"People have got to be kidding themselves if they think that CONSUMERS changed Sony's mind. Sony doesn't care about what the gamers and media think ... 7 wireless bluetooth controllers, dual 1080p output...cell processor..?)"

You are right. Sony doesn't care about the gamer. It's obvious from everything that comes out of their exec's mouths. Nintendo and Microsoft's employees show much more interest in the gamer.

However, I must correct you on the 7 controller bluetooth comment. This isn't for 7 controllers, it's for "seven bluetooth devices". So Bluetooth headsets, PDAs, MP3 players, headphones, cameras, cell phones, controllers, keyboards, and mice are all fair game (but that doesn't mean Sony will fully support all of those). It would be awesome if you could use a bluetooth headset that doesn't have to interact directly with the controller (very likely). This and the flashcard readers are the only features I wish the XBox 360 had that the PS3 will have. I'm sure the 360 could support bluetooth dongles if they wanted it to though (much more useful than 802.11x wireless).

I support a controller redesign if they change the layout. Not enough new games need the d-pad where it is on the dualshock controller, so there's no reason to keep doing it that way. In my opinion, the only thing good about the dualshock controller is the d-pad, so if they switched it and the left analog they would have a winner.

Oooooook, it's obvious that the normally insane fanboys have been replaced with crazed 12yr olds. Next I will expect someone to say the Xbox is a big fat doodie-head.

You know, controller designs always take preexisting ones and improve on it. Claiming that a Dual Shock ripped off an SNES controller because it adds so and so on is ridiculous. It's a totally different controller. One could just claim 'The Xbox controller ripped off Sony's Select button' or 'The Dual Shock ripped off the SNES's shoulder buttons.' These features remain because they work and the public likes it. You can't ever expect for a company to ignore the success of a certain new feature such as shoulder buttons and always create something new. Nintendo's Revolution controller went back to the NES style because they must have believed that their GC controller didn't work out as well. Why do you think Sony kept the Dual Shock design? Because it apparently, was popular. So why change it? Why must you fix something that isn't broken?
The big reason that the only next gen controller that is out and used, the 360, is proven so popular is because of the fact that it incorporates the features of a controller that consumers like. They like shoulder buttons, analog, d-pad, start&select. MS then tries to try out a new element, that center button(Don't know what it's called), and when that is proven sucessful, you can bet controllers in the future is have something similar. You can say that these features were stolen, but that is so unbelievably petty. It wouldn't make sense for a competing company to try and replicate something that works well. If you wanted complete, new, innovative features, controllers such as the revolution shouldnt even include the old d-pad, it shouldn't even have A and B buttons and shoulder buttons. Why don't they just risk it all and use features like a scroll wheel or something? Of course they wouldn't! What works is what is kept and passed on. It's the basic idea of evolution.
