An article over at Joystiq has been making waves as being pretty controversial in regards to the PlayStation 3 outselling the Nintendo Revolution. The report in question goes out on a limb to say that we might see the PS3 outsell the Revolution by 33%-60%.
Wait! Before you go on a fanboy manhunt, let's try to sort through this real quick. The research points out that GameStop expects to receive up to 60% more PS3's than Revolutions. It was conducted by two men from a firm named Wedbush Morgan Securities. Have you ever heard of them before? Are they gamers? Do they rub elbows with any other major distributors?
Of course not. As Sony fans, we're no strangers to rogue analysts and bogus research. For a while that's all we were reading about! Here's what's important: GameStop, Wedbush Morgan Securities, heck... even Sony doesn't really know how many systems they're going to be able to produce in November. Launching a major console with major components makes for one tense endeavor. Just look at the Xbox 360 to know this.
As far as the number of available units is concerned, we probably won't know until it happens. Just because some research firm comes out and says that one retailer expects a certain number of units does not necessarily mean one console is going to outsell another. Gamers need to look past the research here and think it out.
