As reported earlier
this morning, RedBedlam, makers of Roman Empire-themed MMO Roma Victor, have announced, "Roman-style
justice returns to Britain for the first time in nearly 20 centuries." Quite a sight...
Stoning would be more fun, and interactive. There could be a public hall of shame after the stoning is complete, and you could always throw more stones in the hall. People could sell beards to women, and overcharge for better throwing stones. The cross has become a religious symbol, so this seems to weird.
Whats up with the cross? If it was historically accurate it would just be a long pole. Its a "torture" stake. First, why waist the time making a cross for a criminal when a straight pole/tree is easier. And Two, the point of a torture stake is just that...to torture them to death. If you have your hands nailed above you and you are hanging by them, you slowly suffocate.
i think it is a smart idea, makes the game more interactive and (sort of) realistic. The stoning idea is a good one :) (bit sick mind you) but whats the difference between stoning someone and blowing them up in Battlefield or Day of defeat.
This idea gets my vote. but i do believe MMO-real live games (E.G second life) are quite dangerous and it is extreme easy to get addicted - you see it everywhere - woman and men alike.

I believe the historically accurate version of the cross during Roman times was the T-shaped one rather than the stake that you mentioned, nate. As the Wikipedia entry for "Christian cross" puts it: "The type of cross actually used by Romans for crucifixion is now known as St. Anthony's Cross, shaped like the letter 'T', unlike the traditionally depicted Latin cross."
At any rate, suffocation was the means by which the "victims" of crucifixion were actually killed, especially once their legs were broken to speed things up a bit.
Dan Choi, gotta correct you and agree with Nate. Using Wiki's is hardly an accurate source of information. I challenge you to check your encyclopedia at the Library, multiple ones on the terms "torcher stake", "cross", and the greek word "stau·ros´". using a Wiki for a debate... HAHAHA
stau·ros has dual meaning. The stake you refer to, as well as a cross. There have been several archeological and historical findings that prove actual crosses were used. The Romans used 3 or 4 forms of the cross for execution. All involve a cross-beam at the top or bottom. Yet there are ZERO findings that support Romans used stakes. Taken directly from the original greek of the Bible, it specifically states that Jesus was forced to carry the cross-beam to Golgotha.
The majority of people who believe a stake was used are Jehovahs Witness. Need I say more? FYI...the encyclopedia isn't the best source of information. I would consider WIKI a comparable resource, as would most.
the idea is nice and it certainly gives players a feeling something is done. but it becomes hard to keep up with such things when more punishment is needed and when it turns out they made a mistake.
