In light of the late coming date for the
PlayStation 3, which many people call a "delay," we've been saying here for weeks that this will give
developers more time to do their thing. So it comes as no surprise that the International Game Developers Association
of Japan has come out with another contributing factor for the delay. With so many major components like the Cell processor, the memory and Blu-ray, Ken Kutaragi said that it was the latter which caused the PS3 to get a November release. However, another story coming out of Japan says that Sony failed to promptly deliver development tools that would have ensured launch titles. In fact, the article says publishers won't be getting the final tools until June!
This could leave something to be desired come November. IGDA Japan president Shin Kiyoshi "thinks the chances are high that launch titles for the PS3 may look inferior when compared to Xbox 360 games." Even though the finalized tools are months away, we're still holding out on seeing some impressive 'wares at E3. If they look stunning enough by then, we can bet they'll measure up at launch time too.
