Plug pulled on PSone production

Sony has stopped all production of its original PlayStation console, turning towards the future and the PlayStation 3. Last September, the PlayStation (and the PSone redesign, pictured above) surpassed 100 million units sold and continues to be a popular item around the world. While, the PlayStation's 11-year-plus production run was impressive, the Atari 2600 topped that marked, as it was released in 1977 and not pulled out of production until 1991.

Famicom was produced till 2003 or was it 2004? And stopped because they couldn't get the parts anymore.

OK, I stand corrected. I was thinking of US production. (How american of me to think only of my country). But up until 2003, NES and SNES were still being produced in Japan.

Here we go: http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2003Jun/bga20030602020213.htm
Although production for the US and European markets may have ceased years ago, the Famicom and Super Famicom were still in production for the Japanese market as late as September 2003. They probably still are in an unofficial capacity, in the form of those NES/SNES on a chip x-in-one TV game things.

The last time I saw a SNES in stores was in 1999, NES, the last time I saw that system was around 1995/1996.
Did you know that they were still selling Sega Genesis systems in stores(Toy's R us) until 2001/2002. Hell, I saw the Game Gear in Toy's R US back in 2002.
I also remember hearing that Sega Master Systems were still being produced up until around 1999 in parts of South America.
