It's Friday, which means your local
cinema will roll out the new films for the weekend. Spike Lee's new thriller, Inside Man, is out (with some rave reviews, too), as is Larry the Cable Guy's
new flick. Oh, and then there is Stay Alive--a horror film about a diverse group of friends who play the same
MMORPG, and one by one start dying in the same manner their avatars die in the game.In the interest of full disclosure, we have not seen Stay Alive, and we are not sure anyone else has either (the slasher flick was not screened to any critics). The film, which opens today, has only received one review on Rotten Tomatoes, which has the wonderful first line of "Stay Alive consistently proves itself to be the most idiotic film this year that wasn't directed by Uwe Boll." Ouch, but what can you expect from a movie that claims in the trailer that there are "100 million gamers in America"--a rather lofty number which equates to 1 in 3 citizens of the US (to put this into perspective, the original Sony has recently sold its 100 millionth PlayStation One console...worldwide). Did Solitaire figure into that rigorously-researched statistic?
Of course, that is just a small gripe about a trailer that looks terrible--for a movie that looks just as bad. We recommend you save your $10 and find something else to do this weekend.
