UMD demos to be packaged with new PSP mag
Future is gearing
up to launch its newest gaming publication, Official PSP Guidebook, which will feature cover-mounted UMD demo
discs. Guidebook (available in the UK) will be the first PSP magazine to offer playable demos. While we would certainly welcome similar offerings accompanying other major PSP publications, we'd be even more excited if Sony would start providing downloadable game demos that could be saved directly to the Memory Stick. In general, downloadable game material has been glaringly absent from the PSP's repertoire.

Pursuit Force shipped a UMD demo disc to me about a month ago b/c i was registered my PSP when I bought it. And the psp does suck due to terrible load times and god-awful controls....

I'd hardly called that mention of the lack of storable demos a negative thing. More like constructive criticism. Sony has a useful marketing opportunity and should get on the ball. I like my PSP purchased at launch (albeit at an extremem discount thanks to the combined services of Toys R Us and EB Games, CAGS know what I mean) but it hasn't seen all that much use yet. A steady stream of inexpensive magazine demos and downloads would help a lot in convincing me to buy more games.
Considering the amount of space on the UMD, and the growing popularity of podcasting, with and without video/pictures, it could be cool if they put the whole magazine on UMD. Certainly it wouldn't be hard to format it in HTML using the built-in browser and things like interviews could be enhanced by hearing the original recorded conversation.
Such things have been tried before the PSP's combination of portability with a high quality display and cheap high capacity storage could make it more viable than previous ventures.

So....this coming to the US? I don't care about the UK.

Downloadable game demos are coming later this year. On that note, downloadable GAMES are coming later this year, too.
The low cost of manufacturing is a clear advantage of the UMD format over expensive, low-capacity cartridges. This is what has enabled promotional UMD demo discs to be given away at retail stores or mailed out to customers--something you can't get with strictly cartridge-based handhelds. I hope to see US magazines following this trend of including UMD demo discs.
