"So Billy, what did you do in school
today?""I played Halo!"
"That's nice, dear."
Such a conversation would seem pretty far-fetched (or a clear indication of our declining school system) if it wasn't for Alfred, a company that specializes in educational music publishing. Alfred, in collaboration with Video Games Live, will publish 4 arrangements based on video game songs. Coming this Spring, elementary school concert bands, marching bands, and orchestras will be able to jam out to the Halo theme, and concert bands have the added option of order sheet music from the game Advent Rising (odd choice, unless you consider the producer of Video Games Live scored Advent Rising).
Ignoring that 2nd and 3rd graders should not recognize these Mature-rated titles (underage gaming? For shame...), we hope this turns out to be a successful and profitable venture for Alfred, so that we may see some higher-level sheet music published--wouldn't you just love to hear a High School orchestra belt out some Call of Duty in between Vivaldi's Adagio for Strings and the first 1st movement of Beethoven's 5th symphony?
