Rumor: game based on TV's Lost this fall for consoles
EGM's April 2006
issue sports a short entry under its monthly Rumor Mill section telling readers to expect a Lost video game
this fall for unspecified consoles. The Q also claims that the playable adaptation will "even feature an online multiplayer mode called something like 'Passengers versus The Others.'" Predicting possible genres is sketchy at this point, but one could imagine modes such as Capture the Hatch, Pregnant Woman Rescue, and Team Freak-out popping up like a season or two's stranded passenger hallucinations. (Then again, maybe not...)
Whatever the case may be, is this alleged adaptation of ABC's hit TV show a clever April Fools' Day con, or does it signify the next step in viral game licensing (with a series that's as ARG-y as they come)? Given the nature of licensed television titles--if true--it's unlikely that the property will hit next-gen consoles at launch with only the Xbox 360 in sufficient stock for the holidays this year. Episodic content for a console version of Lost would probably not occur, either, as developers usually have to play catch-up with the typically fast-moving plotlines of their TV-based material (at least in comparison to an average game development cycle). We're forced to wonder, however, how such a game would work as an online shooter, action-fighting hybrid, or story-centric mystery/RPG. Puzzling...

VADERMAGGOT @ Mar 28th 2006 2:08AM
oh come on, I like Lost quite a bit, I tivo it and don't miss an episode when it's actually on, but a game? Not everything was meant to be a game.

Lost: The Game - A Text Adventure
You see a hatch. Do you:
a) Try to open it
b) Steal food
c) Have a fight with Sawyer
Markus Heistad @ Mar 28th 2006 2:11AM
What? They should just buy the IP for Far Cry and rebrand it.
There you have a tropical island, you're lost, and the island is infested with baddies and underground corridors.
Dust @ Mar 28th 2006 2:24AM
I dont know if Lost would make a very good game. The writers of the show don't even know where the show is going, so if they made a game it wouldnt be original content it would have to mirror the show.
Zachary @ Mar 28th 2006 2:25AM
Looks like EGM doubled up on the April Fools jokes, perhaps the Apple iGame was just too obvious.
vazel @ Mar 28th 2006 2:45AM
There's a Desperate Housewives game coming. Anything's possible.
mofomojo @ Mar 28th 2006 3:34AM
If this is true, I've lost faith in humanity
Chris @ Mar 28th 2006 5:48AM
@Dust - the actors don't know where it's going but the writers have already penned the ending.
This would be a crap game, but since 96% of all games are crap now what's the difference. Do it, it will sell millions but water-down the industry and make it harder for real games to get attention that don't use Steam.

Lost: The Game - Every 180 minutes the button must be pushed. From the moment the alarm sounds, you will have four minutes to enter the code into the console for induction into the program. When the alarm sounds, either you or your partner must input the code. It is highly recommended that you and your partner take alternating shifts, in this manner you will stay as fresh and alert (garbled) it is of utmost importance that when the alarm sounds the code be entered correctly and in a timely fashion. Congratulations, until your replacements arrive the future of the game is in your hands.

Lost as a game?
No way for me
Lost is just a marvellous creation as tv movie.
Don't know, with all those experiments tried in the past ,if this will be a good idea....
Leave it as it is
Sockatume @ Mar 28th 2006 7:59AM
Aaaargh! Not everybody's seen the second season yet!
Junyi @ Mar 28th 2006 8:03AM
Except it's 108 minutes...
Justin @ Mar 28th 2006 8:18AM
To bad Lost is biting the big one lately. Remember those first few eps of season 2? Me too. Those were the days. Now I have to sit through such crap as "Sawyer gets a haircut", "So-and-so is preggers" and "BTW d00d, you totally can enter the code AFTER the 108 minutes, there's a little leniency there because we're cool like that."
Yuck.
Ibere @ Mar 28th 2006 8:45AM
If this is true, Passangers vs. Others will be exactly like the Predator vs. Mercenaries in Far Cry....
Dave @ Mar 28th 2006 10:10AM
I think it'll be more like Myst, although a text based adventure would be pretty cool. Should get The Brother Chaps to make it since they seem to do a pretty good job on these types of games. Even if it is just flash.
gary! @ Mar 28th 2006 11:05AM
I think this rumour started from an interview with Jorge "Hurley" Garcia from February;
"Garcia discusses what it would take to turn Lost into a video game. When you think about the logistics of turning Lost into a video game, it would be really tough, he remarks. Lost has actually been described in many ways as a video games at times, where you can be searching around on the island for awhile and then finally discover the hatch the way we did on the show. Youd really have to be able to make it like one of those big sandbox format video games, where you can go off and go to a lot of different areas. I think the best way to do the game, too, would be after you solve it at the end, if they let you restart the game as an Other.
Gonzo @ Mar 28th 2006 11:23AM
Yawn!
Really?
I don't think gamers will really get into this but this might be a good way (if the game is good) to get non gamers into games. Now we just have to figure out how to get the anti-gamers into games.
How would you make a Pat Robertson or Jack Thompson video game. They should also make an Opra Vs. The View Game. They might just expand the market.
vidGuy @ Mar 28th 2006 11:35AM
God, I hope they don't release a game... that would just cheap the name. It really couldn't work.
The writers HAVE sketched the ending of the series (they say it will take 5-6 seasons)... but they haven't written EVERYTHING. A lot of things are open to change... just look at how much dialog has been thrown in because of viewer response! (um, the new washer and dryer thing from Libby, the "alternate dimension" talk from Hurley when on the beach with Sayid, countless others.)
And, Justin, I suggest you stick around for the last 7 episodes of this season. We are supposed to have a resolution of the Michael/Walt issue AND find out HOW and WHY the plane crashed. And you've got to admit Maternity Leave answered a lot of questions (though, in good fashion, it asked a lot more, too).
As you can see, I'm kind of a LOST fanatic. Please don't ruin my show by making a crappy video game out of it. I have nightmares of "Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game" already as it is! ;)
Lagomorpho @ Mar 28th 2006 11:36AM
Blast that typo! I actually consulted my roommates about seeing how long we could keep pushing the button with that Lost widget but we decided against it. It's probably for the best.
To 11: Sorry dude, you clicked on the comments for an article about a game based on Lost. What'd you think would happen. Also, what's the holdup? I hear you can download those episodes for only 2 bucks a pop (or free, depending on your morals).
32_Footsteps @ Mar 28th 2006 12:46PM
But who wouldn't love to play the minigame in which you find out how come Hurley hasn't lost any weight since the crash?
Ramza24 @ Mar 28th 2006 1:16PM
Hit A to control Charlie's drug addiction... A Jack surgery minigame...
vidGuy @ Mar 28th 2006 2:35PM
32 Footsteps, that was another thing we saw thanks to viewer response! Everyone wondered, and we got an answer. Although I've heard that Garcia has actually lost 30 pounds since filming began.
Can't wait for this week's epi. Is Gale an other, or is he safe? Still can't tell.

Someone posted about this on IGNs LOST board a few months ago, http://boards.ign.com/Message.aspx?topic=103861728&brd=8147&start=113695570, I'll buy it, if they make it, but it will probably suck or atleast be as good as the Alias and 24 games, they were just average.
