Yeah, I'm personally throwing my vote at the free online gaming. In a close second it would just be the games.

Not a damn thing.

Xbox 360 has vastly more graphical potential than the PS3's souped up Nvidia 7800 gtx, thanks to it's unified shader architecture. (The PS3 gpu basically is a 7800 with more memory, 256 MB more to be exact, and a faster clockspeed.) If you think I'm joking check out the HD trailer for Crysis.

Blu-ray is going to have some serious loading times. It's going to be more expensive and the only thing significant about it is HD movies.

The controller is going to be more of the same. End of story.

The whole free online gaming scheme is going to have a catch. It will not be a thoroughly implemented as Xbox Live.

And the games are the same games you played on the PS1-PS2 except with better graphics.

Free online gaming

I wanna play GT 5/Vision/Online or whatever it's gonna be called, against like 16 people. That would rock.

Miss the excitement of the good olde days in the arcade playing against 8 people in racing games like Final Lap, Virtua Racing, and Daytona USA.

Hope they can bring Gran Turismo online properly with the PS3.

The PS3 is definitely a powerhouse. Out of the three consoles (360, Rev, and PS3), PlayStation 3 was my second choice for various reasons. I would consider myself more of a Ninty fangirl, but the only question I ask myself about the PS3 is why I should pay for power I'll never use? Other than that, I don't find free online game all too impressive if you compare it to the other next-gen consoles, but I am looking forward to digital distribution. As far as games, I would again have to go with Nintendo, as with most passionate gamers. Although storage of Blu-ray discs are impressive, I find it is not the best feature and the use of them will only spread the format as the PS2 did with DVDs. What I'm looking forward to the most with the PS3 (over the 360), what's worth the wait, is 1080p support and the dual-screen support, which adds 3D potential. I'm also looking for Japanese support, which should be stronger with the PS3.

this wasnt mentioned in the options, but i guess this falls into the "games" category...
but i want some better innovation with the game play, back in the old NES days, it was either side scroller, or directly above view, and you moved up,left,right,down...in the 2nd gen consoles, we finally saw 3D worlds, and with that came better game play...so i personally want from this PS3 is something to stand by, other than a pretty PS2 game, or reinvenion of a PS1 game (altho im sure everyone loves the fact of FF7 gracing the PS3, i know i am, hope they bring FF8 and FF9 as well) i want to see something new and something remarkable done with all this new bigger/better hardware and technology. i may seem like im doubting/bashing the PS3, but i am sure as hell a hardcore believe in Sony and what they do. I know i wont be disappointed in the graphics department, but i hope that wont be the only thing.

I'm hoping beyond hope for 'tivo' like performance - with that hard-drive, being able to d/l information from either the TV or a computer on the wireless network and using my PSP to download what I'd like to see with ease.

If this is done - Sony will have a HUGE winner on their hands... HUGE!!!

Im not trashing the ps3 or anything but, im not willing to pay 500 dollars plus money for games and other cool stuff. I just rather go for the xbox 360. I mean its cheeper and i think it has a decent chance at making a big hole in sony's profit. Becides i herd that the ps3 was going to loose just around one billion dollars after selling the ps3's. I think their making a system for the people but arn't making a system for profit. That scares me. (No disrespect to P.S. fans its just how i see it.)

I am not a big gaming fan, but I am a technology fan. I bought the PS2 when it first came out and played random games. I mostly use it to watch DVD's.

For me the PS3 will be the media HUB I have always wanted, but to lazy to build one myself. With Blu-Ray, Internet, DVR?, PSP integration and great games with an online community. Lets not forget the fact that it is going to be an amazing deal for the technology.

My biggest concern is the Blu-Ray, with the format war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, we will have to sacrifice some titles, and in time I am sure I will buy a Dual/Tri format player so I can play all types of High Definition Discs.

come on. you have to vote free online gaming. imagine you had to pay 50 dollars a month.that would be horriable.most people wouldnt even buy it.if there was no free online gaming i dont even know if i would buy the ps3. i really really want the ps3 but if you had to pay 4 ps3 the unit would get more expensive than it already is and some peopel wont be able to afford it. im a teenager that makes about 20 dollars a week for only the summer and thats not enought to be able to pay for 30-50 dollars a month for ps3 online and my parents would not pay for it. so i just wouldnt get it. i thing if there is free online gaming more ppl will buy ps3 which will make more profit for sony which will be better off for them.

If Sony can beat XBox Live, they've beat the 360. That said, the reason why Live does so well here in America is because of all the FPS's. Sony don't really have that, so it'll all come down to which games people wanna play.

Plus, if Sony lets me download music straight to my console then transfer it to my PSP/whatever they've tapped an area MS hasan't.

But even still, I believe the PS3 will simply be too much. Not in terms of graphics, but of... everything. The PSP dosen't sell well because it's simply too much and the content is spread so thin it's rediculous. Not to mention a new disc format which will cost more to produce. Oh, and the cell processor and Blu-ray drive.

I think MS went half and half here and took the middle road. Somewhat Nintendo's outlook by not needing the best hardware there is, but also Sony's in the fact they want the players, power, ect. at the same time.

I guess you could say I'm waiting for GT5 and MGS4... but I'm not going to spend 500 dollars on a console to play two $100 games.

This all sounds good to me.

I hope they don't tamper with the boomerang too much either, as it was starting to grow on me. Maybe they could just reposition the shoulder buttons out a bit more & add trigger buttons.

Agreed #38

There will be a minimal free online, because they can't afford not to. If they're going to lose over $100 per machine sold, they need another revenue stream other than games. SOE doesn't have the same kind of game production as Nintendo, so they can't just cash in on their own IP's. That leaves only a couple of possibilites for extra revenue to recoup losses; higher licensing fees (read: $70-80 MSRP per game) or paid membership for online gaming.

The only place that online gaming will be totally free is Nintendo, because they won't have losses to recoup on hardware and their software brings in enough revenue for them.

Also, Sony likes to use formulas that work. Expect a Silver/Gold type online like Xbox Live.

I don't know about you guys, but like another poster, I'm a powerhouse junkie. My dad gave me permission to hook it up to the 60" Sony SXRD widescreen family television, with HDMI hookups. Besides, if games are designed by default to be in 720p, the games would still look good. Plus, I've seen a lot of good up-and-coming titles, so I would say a balance between hardware and games would be the reason I would buy a PS3.
