Nintendo announced today that the Metroid
Prime 3 we were all expecting has since undergone some major changes, including one in title. Dubbed Metroid
Prime: Piñata Hunters, the game reflects some of the changes made to the series in the recently released DS
version. "The pace is much faster now," said Flim-Flam McFake. "We're placing a lot of emphasis on jump pads, teleporters and frenetic fragging this time around." This presents quite a radical departure from past Metroid Prime games, which instead focused on methodical exploration and engrossing atmosphere. "Yeah, that stuff was cool...but kinda boring. We want more explosions," said McFake. "A lot more."
Another innovation presented in the game is directly related to the weaponry wielded by series heroine-addict, Samus. Instead of defending herself with her trusty arm cannon, Samus will instead be armed with a large and intimidating stick. Apparently, it makes for amazing gameplay with the Revolution's controller.
"It makes for amazing gameplay with the Revolution's controller! You swing the remote as if it's a stick, and on the screen, Samus swings her weapon as if it's a stick. Totally convincing and lifelike." McFake was very pleased with how the game was going against the commonly accepted conventions of the first-person shooter genre. "We're turning the genre upside down. We're calling Samus a first-person swinger."
The story, which sees Samus facing off against a new race of candy-filled Space Pirates, is set to conclude the trilogy started on the Gamecube. We'll have more news on this potential Revolution launch title as it breaks.
