I'm still balking at paying $5.00 (or whatever) for an extra map and two extra heroes in Star Wars Battlefront II.

But I have to, because all the MP games have it. :(

What the fuck is going on here. Seriously, what the fuck is going on here. Pay $2.50, for ONE ITEM in a game?. One louzy item, some horse armor, something a artist maybe spent an hour on. Something thats maybe one small string in your savegamefile.. "Havehorsearmor=yes", a few bytes of data, not even a KB

Something that probably could be made yourself because oblivion has/will get an editor in which you probably can create items..

And to top it off, its not in a mmorpg, its in a single player game. If it was online maybe you could sell it, or really use it to beat that other guy in PVP or whatever. But no its for a single player game

Seriously im amazed. What kind of idiots do they think people are ?

I don't want this and I don't want to buy it.
But what if they release something I do want that I don't want to buy?

I'm incredibly pissed by this whole thing. The proper term is "barding" dammit, not "horse armor". There are names for these things for a reason people. Stop being ignorant and bother to learn the proper names for things.

I think its pretty fu@#ing ridiculous that people bitch as much as they do about stupid s#it. I asked the bum on the street if he had $2.5 and he let me borrow it. If you want to spend your HARD earned cash on something else go ahead. For all you smokers...for the price of a pack of cigs you could put your investment towards something that doesn't kill you. Btw, Phony fanboys can toss a salad.

I have no issue with the devs charging for items, but this smacks of something that didn't get finished in time for the game going Gold, and Bethesda/2KGames dipping a toe in the water to see what they can get away with.

If they had wrapped up Horse Armour in a nice side-quest then I'd pay 200 or more points.

As it stands I feel they are charging for something that should have been included in the game from the start - two weeks after release and already premium content arrives. I won't be buying it.

This also sets a worrying precedent. Sure, none of us are being forced to buy these things... but what about less scupulous developers who may decide to rush a product out the door knowing they can charge for small updates that are more crucial to gameplay?

I'll just wait until someone releases the files to the general public ...

And if that won't happen, I think I can live without ... there are enough cool and free mods around ...

While I can understand whay Bethesda would want to charge for these items, i find it offensive to charge that kind of money for 1 item, and a frivolus one at that.

And can we stop with the microsoft bashing? it's Bethesdas doing not MS(yep MY s key still works)

I'm going to bring it up and Im going to say it. Developers are now doing and realizing MS learned YEARS AGO. Just get crap software out the door and make updates. Obviously its ALOT more profitable to get a half finished product out, gain capital and put money back into it. Unfortunately thats what is good for business, and it works. Its unfortunate because apparently americans no longer take pride in their work and our products no longer reflect that lasting quality. When the best used cars are from outside our borders thats a problem, because we are putting quality first. This is just natural. This is why Japan doesnt want our crap. Why the heck would they?

I think pretty much everything on the Marketplace is more money than it should be. Instead of this, people should be bitching about the price to get some new freaking profile images. Why do I have to pay for those at all??

I had 200 credits and nothing to do with them, so I just dropped it on this horse armor. I suppose the worst part about it is how the "quest" is implemented. Basically, you're suddenly given a piece of paper about the armor and told to go all the way to a certain stable, where this orc woman equips it for you (and it's only free the first time, it's 500 gold afterwards). She thanks you for "helping" her. The whole process really just feels half-assed compared to the detail in the rest of the game.

This is no good for me. I've killed every horse and stable keeper in the game, and then I salted the earth so no more of either would grow.

Actually, I've tried to get my friggin' annoying fat-ass paint horse killed several times, but the goddamned thing can basically run down 90 degree inclines without getting hurt. It's nice to get a bear to maul him for a while, and then get some blade points by slashing at the bear from the back while he's trying to kill "orca-horse."

But more importantly, are they going to release new items to find? I'm sick of the umbra sword. I'd pay more than 200 points for a few new rare treasure drops.

I really don't see why so many people are upset about being charged for an optional item that is not necessary to play the game?

Get used to this people. Microsoft has been pushing the idea of these microtransactions ever since the 360's Live Market place was announced.

I think it's great. The more content available for a title the better. So what if it could a couple of dollars? Sure, this particular item is probably not worth it, but what if the item were some magical armor or weapon that actually helped you play the game? Would you be whining about that? I think not.

What I'd like to see in the future is downloadable side quests that actually paid the player in Microsoft points along with the usual gold and rare items.

If Bethesda added something like this, everyone would be happy. Well probably not, since there are always people who will whine about everything.

how many of you would've wanted to pay 50$ for super mario brothers and then another 2$ for fireflowers to show up?

i pretty much agree with the post. the problem with people whining is that if people actually buy this addon, then it will set a precedent, and soon there may not be free patches anymore. gamefaqs is going to turn into: "first, i bought these 10 patches for a total of 25$: ...". it could really fragment gamers because it really fragments gaming experiences, because with things like this the entire experience, based on which patches you bought in addition to the game.

All things considered... the awarded horse Shadowmere is the only horse would would need such armor- she's the only one who will voluntarily attack any hostile creatures without being attacked first. Dark Brotherhood ftw on training killer horses. And yet, she would not look good with a saddle or shiney armor. Unless it's black and all Nazgul-ish.

Jeremey Wright:

The problem is it is NOT a free market economy on XBL or any other digital service (iTunes, etc, etc). The distributor has total control and can do whatever they want, there is no competition.

Example: My copy of Mech Assault, which is older than hell, still charges for maps. It's been awhile since I've checked, but I'm pretty sure they still charge. So does my copy of Rainbow Six: Black Arrow. If the downloads don't sell well, instead of lowering the price they stop making new downloads instead.

Only a handful of games have made paid content free, and I think it was mainly to show people how to use the XBL service and what they can expect from paid content in the future.

As Oblivion goes, it's pretty lame to buy horse armor or even avatars on XBL for the price of Geometry Wars.

I dunno, just modded it into my PC one for free. Lots of kickass mods out there already.

That would suck to own the Xbox360 version. Who would pay for something like that when its free for the PC??

Did Bethesda make us pay for Morrowind plugins? No. How is Oblivion any different? This is all part of this new bullshit that's happening in the gaming industry. First, Valve announced that HL2's expansions will be $20 each (4-6 hrs of gameplay), and theres gonna be a bunch of em. Rip-off.

Now, Bethesda is hopping on the bandwagon and deciding that gamers should pay for every little plug-in. Things like this show that video-gaming is truly on the decline and videogame companies do not give a flying fuck about their customers, but only about money. I'm not sayign that they shouldnt care about money, I'm just saying that sometimes when someone has already bought somethign from you, you can be the one that every likes and give them a little add-on for free...instead of being a FUCKING JACKASS!!!!!!!!!!!! WTFOMFGBBQ!!!!!!! WTF!?!?!? I WILL NEVER PAY FOR THIS FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!!

sorry...i got a little mad.

I think that this is incredibly lame. I understand it's only $2. I understand that alot of people think that's nothing. But it's really lame to charge $2 more for something that was, supposedly, to be included with the game. Sure it's only $2, and that's not the point - I don't care if it's 10 cents - it's a useless set of items, with no lore, no quests, and only TWO SETS. Look what they gave us in Morrowind for free. Yet here they are charging for a mini plugin no better than anything they gave us for Morrowind, free.

I'll buy an expansion pack if it has alot of content in it. But this is just stupid. Anyway, my rant is over.

Oh, and LaughingMan (back from #48), that was probably the best reply.
