Obviously the gaming has made dormant whatever gene would be responsible for choosing colors that are not painful to the eye. Her website is painful.

"All in all, an interesting read, especially for any girl gamers looking for a way in -- now you know what to expect."

Because God forbid that girl gamers would try to get in via more traditional means, such as journalism. Right?

Bah, there's a much better article at Gamecritics.com written by Erin Bell about booth babes. While it's from 2004, it's no less resonant, doubly so with the new rules that they've slapped on the show. It's really well-written, and is a better read.

Check it out: http://www.gamecritics.com/feature/report/e3expo2004_babes/page01.php

Brinstar -- I would hope every girl gaming journalist would get to go via traditional means. The industry is wholly one-sided and I'd be happy to pay girls to bring some equality to the floor. That said, for the girl gamers who are not journalists and not programmers but still want to go, when push to comes to shove here is a way. And if there was such thing as a Booth Brawler or a Booth Bum, I would've so done that for every E3 I could. I'm not advocating this method over the others, but it is an interesting way to get in.

And Jaded E3 Goer (if that is your real name... :-p), I like the article a lot. One quote t hat stuck out: "I personally don't play a lot of games because I don't want to spend the time getting acquainted with the controls. I just want to get right into it." Cue the booth babes for Revolution (just kidding)

Yeah, I thought booth babes were supposed to look great, but she looks like most the girls I can pick up on a late Friday night on the corner of 14th ST for a mere $20.

If women really want to get into events like E3 the more respectful way to do it is to actually earn it and not fall back on T&A to get a ticket. If you start to rely on that, then you are so doomed when you are in your mid 30's to mid 40's cause that shizzle doesn't last.

Why did you guys waste your time and space on an aritcle like this? I don't see anything noteworthy.

Guys love the boothbabes, yet they diss the gamer girls who don't have any other way to get in just because their charm is their only ticket (BTW, this year's E3 will have less T&A to work with). Gaming is already male domninated so that's why they have the booth babes in the first place.

If a girl gamer wants to risk being objectified because it's the only way for her to get into E3, I say go for it. It'd be a welcome change from the vapid booth babes who're just there to pay the bills. It might give guys a different opinion on girl gamers. The booth babes sell a product and it would be nice if they knew more about their product than "Well... I played Pac Man in the arcade once when I was little..."

a) real girls don't look like that, so get over it.

b) I've never been all that impressed by the booth chicks at E3 - she's actually one of the better-looking ones I've seen. Most of them are basically just trailer trash. You've gotta go to Japan for a real "kyangeru" experience.

Bad form. If that's the only way you can get a date it says more about you than about the women.

I have respect for anyone that can use a system that is stacked against them to their advantage. The author was intelligent enough to get into E3, meet industry celebrities, have a good time, and make great contacts for this years show.

Can't see anything wrong with that.

Once we get done talking about girls as objects while insulting them, maybe we can get to some actual discussion of the article.

Thank you for showing us numerous examples of today's social issues, while simultaneously showing why gaming society is full of "diva's". Seriously guys, learn how to respect people, the is the 21st century.

Debikul :

I dont know what is sadder, that you decided to insult this girl for no reason or that the only way you can get a "date" is with $20 on a street corner.

She says right in the article that she is an actress, model, and GAMER. Just because she's doing, you know HER JOB, to get into E3, doesn't mean she's a whore. The women there are paid to do a job. Blame the industry and the men in it who perpetuate the "need" for booth babes, but don't look down on these women for what they do to for work.

It's a shame that some people are so down on her just because she's a booth babe. I'm surprised because I thought gamers should be all about being more welcoming to women gamers. I mean, don't people actually WANT a more diverse player base?

I thought the article she wrote was nice, and she came off as a level headed chick that loves gaming. Why some of you assheads felt the need to insult her is beyond me. No wonder chicks have to be paid to go to these events. If a chick isn't dressed in some ridiculous outfit with her boobs hanging out, nobody's going to pay attention to them or treat them with any kind of respect....Douche wads....

Props to the woman in hand. I have mates who model and yea, it's a top job. I like the models, some pretty girls out there but not at E3. That's what I hate, this whole slapping semi-naked women around male orientated events. yea! that's original.

To the girl. she's nice looking. not a stunning babe or whatever. but she looks friendly and nice. GOSH! I know in the states that's a bad thing and all.

Ok, you guys really take things out of context. First of all, I didn't say I had to pay a girl for a date, I'm just saying that girls that look the way she does can be bought on a street corner. What I mean by that is that to me, she doesn't look that special.

So what's the big deal?

You obviously stopped reading my post after that in your haste to reply to mine and say whatever crap you say that makes you think you look cool. Re-read my post and read past the first part. I'd like to see more women who have "earned" their way to events such as that instead of get by on "looks". Those are the real women. The ones who don't have to subject themselves to the likes of geeky ass virgins who live at their moms house playing Galaxies to give them a jolly or two. Women are smart and it's a shame that you idiots can't really notice that about a women. And by that I mean that I have little to no respect for women who get by in life on looks and not actual effort.

You know mate, I don't think so. Gamers, or the ones who call themselves the "hardcore" want less diversity. Those who scoff at the DS and Revolution, you know the folk. They want the same but in better graphics, despite them looking like a repulsive tumour. They're the first to flame girls in real life.

I'm all for diversity. I got my girlfriend into Gamecube (she used to own a PS2 for the RPGs) and multiplayers on Smash Bros and Mario Party have gotten so much better. I find girls to be damn cunning. Especially the ones I play on Worms Armageddon. Should never have taught my little sister how to play that XD.

wow! what a range of comments. For anybody that said something nice, thanks bunches and bunches! I am just now embarking on journalism. This is the topic about which my editor said to write. I am glad I trusted him. Truthfully I had my doubts because I thought it wouldn't interest anyone. I wanted to write about games. He said I could after this. I had NO idea anyone would even read my first article. I gotta say, I'm pretty dang tickled and totally surprised!

For the most part, people have been incredibly supportive and kind. And Debikul, I never claimed to be some gorgeous person. It is just I felt pretty darn lucky to get into E3 at all (been wanting to for years!) and since all I have ever done professionally is acting and modeling, I was able to slide into E3 in a sort of round about way. Actually, I totally agree about booth babes not generally being so amazingly beautiful. However, if they get hired, someone must think they have some sort of appeal.

As I said in my article, I am really excited that this year I will be able to see it all. Although I was super happy to get in last year, being stuck at one booth was less exciting than being able to see it all! And thanks to such great responses... I will be doing a video hosting type thing! yay! I got to do a video interview with Levelord its on downloads on gamedaily. And I just finished editing my interview with Chris Sabat, who does all the VO work for the DBZ anime and games. That was super fun too. He is such a hoot.

Well, thanks again for the nice words. I was relieved after I got past the first few. I thought it was going to be a huge hate fest. Whew. Well, I am finally going to get to play Oblivion. I bought it the first night and the next day got a call back about writing this article. I've only gotten to where you get your birthsign! All my friends are like at least 70 hours into it. I may just have to take a mini-break from all the forums on gaming and actually go play them! I am jonesing for a pizza and a marathon of Oblivion. ttyl

Hell, I'd rather have a knowledgeable chick show me around E3 than some dude, any day of the week.

So what if she isn't a "10"? She might have some personality to go alone with her general cuteness, which MAKE her a high 9, or even a 10 in some books.

A lot of "10"s you used to see at E3 are more vacant than a mall parking lot at night. This is a hopeful sign of change, that someone with a little character + a little cute = booth babe. 'bout damned time.

I think gaming lost what little pretense it had towards being a cultural form when Jessica Chobot was given a blog on ign.com. Forget art, I'm just talking about culture. Things like Katamari add credibility, things like Chobot's blog take away from it.

Yvonna recently interviewed me about my game audio studio. Not on only is she extremely intelligent, a REAL gamer, and a great actress, she's a marketing GENIUS! I'd bet that any of you dudes who can't get into E3 would wear as little as a rubber band and a poison ivy leaf if that's what it took. Seriously, If all girls were as enthusiatic about games as she is, the world would be a much better place. Oh, and DOA comment guy -- this girl is as close to Tina Armstrong as you'll ever get. Trust me.

I met Yvonna at E3 last year and she was really pleasant. I could tell that she was a big gamer because we talked together at the show for a good while each day. Funny enough, a few weeks ago she e-mailed me out of the blue. It's one more proof that there are attractive female gamers out there. Here's our pic:

All she needs now is a camera crew and she could have her own HBO special. The torrid world of sex, games, and rock and roll.

Resident Gamer! I helped present an idea like that for BBC2 a while ago. I think they made something similar, or the idea was sold to Channel 4 or something. I don't know, I got my money so I was happy. Basically it was gaming for adult audiences. Very daft idea but I (well my team) were just cashing in on the torrent of gamers who want pr0n at the same time.
The pilot episode was hilarious :D
