The reason the co-op is free and they're charging for the costumes is that they're hoping people will want to differentiate themselves over Live when they play co-op.

It's what people were saying about the horse armor: that if Oblivion isn't online, nobody will see your pimped out ride.

Sneaky, sneaky Rare. Still not buying overpriced crap though.

I've had 200 loose gamer points and nothing to spend them on for over a month, and enjoying kameo as much as I do, I plumped for the Masquerade pack. Can't say I regret it. 10 outfits is better than 2, for one, and when those outfits include a ninja, a cowgirl and a pirate, you're already talking about something that's a lot more fun. A quarter for an outfit. Works for me.

How cheap are you people??? The 200 points for the costume pack is not bad at all!! You get a outfit for ALL ten morphs and one for Kameo, what more do want?? This clear people if you find the LIVE's Market Place is putting you in the poor house then don't download it!! That simple!!

People only complain when thier life's a bore!!

I really do understand why Microsoft is doing this... but I still don't like it.

Being the only game in town right now, MS wants to recover as much as they can before Sony and Nintendo arrive (nothing ruins a monopoly like some good, old fashioned competition).

Business is business, and as long as they reach their target sales... they will continue doing what they want, even if that means upsetting some of their core customers.

I would like to see microtransactions be, well, micro. Keep the prices for useless stuff (like skins) under a dollar and people will eat them up. X360 fans will tell their friends, people will be happy, sales go up, you move more consoles, sell bigger hard drives to fit the extra downloaded content and before you know it... you have bigger sales and happy customers.

On a personal note... I would rather spend 99cents on a great song from iTunes (that took dozens of artists weeks to write/compose/record/produce) then buy a $2.50 skin for a horse (that likely took 30mins in photoshop and 15 mins of programming)...

"...if you find the LIVE's Market Place is putting you in the poor house then don't download it!!"

It doesn't put any of us in the poor house. It's a matter of percieved value. And personally, I percieve most content (gamerpics, themes, horse armor, and many of the arcade games) to be about 5 to 10 times overvalued.

"People only complain when thier life's a bore!!"

If you say so. How's that shoe fitting you?
If you wanna be a consumer whore, then fine. Let them slowly drain your disposable income.

People on xbox.com and gamefaqs are saying the new patch disables the older costumes when you download the new ones.

200 points isn't that much, and the costumes really only appeal to the hardcore fans of the game. Just skip your daily ice cream sandwich and buy the costume if you want it.

does this give you the co-op achievements for playing on live?

I'm interested in the Masquerade Pack. US$2.50 is only like what I spend on lunch, so I'm sure if I take my own sandwich for a change I can afford it. ;) Anyway, my real question is does anyone know which characters are included? I know Kameo turns into Joanna Dark (cute . . .), but what are the rest?

I might leave it until I've finished the game, though.

When I first heard about the horse armor thing I thought it was a huge mistake/ ripoff. But actually now that I've had time to think about it, I think it's alright.

These are purely cosmetic changes. They provide ways to customize you characters to differentiate yourself and add some interest. It is totally frivolous. If a game studio wants to make some extra cash that way, more power to them.

I think Bethesda shouldn't have called it 'horse armor' because that makes it sound like you can pay to increase the armor of you horse. My understanding is that it only changes the appearance of the horse.

We pay for cheap, trivial, frivolous stuff/junk all the time for the fun of it. Mark my words -- This sort of thing is here to stay and every console/studio from this day forward will participate. Gamers will purchase this stuff. In certain situations I myself may even purchase some of these things -- why? because it's cheap and fun.

Betcha they wont have critisism on this site when Nintendo does this for their virtual box. /wink

You dont want to purchase something, then dont. My goodness, complain because an option is there, and complain if there is no option. You are damned if you do, damned if you dont.

...and people were complaing about game prices being $10 higher. Now to have the full game and extras, you may end up spending $70-$80. Maybe more if you are an addict.

Hopefully this trend does not accelerate, or games will slide more and more to bleakness, while only making it interesting with extras because they are more profitable.

In reply to 9# off the top of my head, Kameo dresses up in a shiny green plastic outfit with yellow trimmings (that looks really familiar but i can't place where from), a ninja, a soldier, a cowboy, a pirate, a robot, joanna dark and in animal skins.

I know I'm missing two there.
