Pac-Man, Gundam, and more at Xbox 360 press conference

In addition to the news that anime is on the XBLM, there is plenty more from last night's Japanese press event. You can read the horrible machine translation of Famitsu's coverage here, or read on for the big
- Arcade legends Pac-Man and Galaga are coming to the Xbox Live Arcade! No word on whether there's any bad blood between the two considering Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga have been spending an awful lot of time together. Both titles will support worldwide rankings.
- Bandai Namco also announced Zegapain, "an anime/game collaboration
that will boast downloadable content," as well as a new entry in the Culdcept series, Culdcept Saga. Xboxyde has screens of Zegapain XOR.
- An as-yet-unnamed Xbox Live compatible Gundam FPS. GameBrink has five high-res screens, and Xboxyde is hosting a torrent of video from the press conference.
- Tri-Ace studios, creators of the Star Ocean series, Radiata Stories, and Valkyrie Profile games, are working on an as-yet-unnamed RPG exclusively for the Xbox 360, to be published by Microsoft Game Studios. Sounds like the mystery Xbox 360-exclusive RPG has been revealed ... sort of.
- Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi's Mistwalker studios is bringing several games to the Xbox 360. They announced that the first of these, Blue Dragon, will be released (in Japan presumably) before the end of the year, while a demo disc for Lost Odyssey will be released "later this year." No word on Cry On.
- Xboxyde has screenshots and video footage of the Square Enix/Gamearts collaboration, Project Sylph. A sequel to Gamearts' PS2 shmup Silpheed?

As for the Gundam game. I know it's an fps, but you do get to actually pilot the giant robots right? I'm just going by the screenshots and the recent slew of crummy Gundam games. In fact my favorite Gundam game was for the Dreamcast. That was ages ago.

Here is an interesting piece of trivia. Pan-Man exists as an easter egg on the Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga machine. If I remember correctly, you put in your money, up up up down down down left right left right, the machine will make a noise and a ghost will change colors, and then you hit start for ms pacman.

oops. Got the code wrong. The correct code is up, up, up, down, down, down, left, right, left, right, left, start

Things ARE starting to look better for 360. All we need now is to have the PS3 price point at 599.99 or higher and that should scare all the developer's over to the XBox 360 and Nintendo! Oh wait! I think they already did that! =P

Nice work MS.
I hope Zegapain will be good...I saw the video from Japan XBL yesterday at my friend's 360. It feels and looks nice Zone of the Enders. I hope Namco Bandai doesn't screw this one up. Please bring this to NA.
The Gundam FPS looks interesting. I am looking forward to the Tri-Ace title and the SquareEnix/GameArts title. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Lost Planet, Dead Rising and 99 Nights will also be on my list.
If most of these games come to NA, definitely picking a 360 when the next price drop is here!

Pac-Man and Galaga...again. I have Namco collections for PS1 and my PSP...and my computer! Worldwide ranking? After one day, those higher rankings will be out of reach for most people (like me), so I don't care. Where in the hell is SF2:Turbo? Do they keep delaying it because it could hurt sales for retail games?
bladestar @ Apr 6th 2006 5:33PM
Where are all those anti-microsoft/xbox 360 fanboys now? ehh? eat this! look at what we are getting and you still don't have even a price tag!

If Nintendo didnt say anything about what they were going to do microsoft wouldnt be pushing the live arcade thing at all, just think about last generation's xbox live arcade.I dont think that this will help them here in the U.S.or Japan cause you can play those games on current generation consoles now so i dont see this helping them at all.Sony and microsoft realize that Nintendo has an advantage this generation with their back catalog of games and controller!
JRM @ Apr 6th 2006 9:05PM
None of this replaces original Japanese Titles for the 360. I don't know why MS (and their fanboys) consider this such a victory.

MSFT had plans for this arcade long before Nintendo even announced theirs. So give me a break. More people trying to credit Nintendo with works that were done by others.
Just because "last generation" wasnt plentiful doesnt mean they didnt have plans for their current. They obviously did when they were working on the 360 and it's interface for years just to support a feature like this. Get over it.

Pac-Man isn't threatened by Ms. Pac-Man hanging out with Galaga. Galaga is well known to be a 'confirmed bachelor,' sort of the Rupert Everett of early arcade machines. Makes a solid contributuion to the softball team but can also gossip like nobody's business. The perfect friend for both members of a married couple.
Now Bosconian, that guy is like Freddie Mercury. So many notches on his bed post from both genders he's been one continuing scandal since he first hit the arcades. His dangerous reputation is the reason why he almost entirely lacked versions on home computers and consoles until the first Namco Museum on PS1 and has been left out of most Museum editions since. Guy just can't stay out of trouble or the beds of other peoples' spouses.
