We imagine that's how they would have said it
if they could. Sony's latest backtrack was specifically in response to the news concerning the possible PS3 price
range, and went a little something like this: "[it was] a mistranslation or misunderstanding of the
discussion, which was actually focused on the relative value of PS3 as a Bluray Disc player."Oops. So everyone already knew that the PS3 was going to have to be competitively priced in comparison to other high-definition and Blu-ray players. Unfortunately, Sony wants to make sure everyone knows that's what the France megaboss was talking about, and not the official price of the console.
It could be they're setting themselves up for a big debut of a sweet price point that's comparable to the only other next-gen console they have to compete with. However, one point to consider is that he did say it would be an expensive game platform, but a relatively cheap Blu-ray and HD solution. We won't know exactly what they have in mind until E3 of course (surprise surprise). Either way, it may be smart to start saving your lunch money now.
